Thank You Horizons

i played HZ for about 2months and i can honestly say i had a good time doing so. the game is seriously lacking in alot of ways which was a huge bummer. the game content changes so much and so often it leaves your head spinning. i dont like paying for beta...and this game IS beta...and i have a feeling it always will be.

after beta testing EQ2 and WoW. (EQ2 is king btw). it's hard for me to believe that games like HZ, DAoC, AC and others of merit will stand a chance in the months to come.

while HZ does alot of things right, they do alot very...very wrong. (no dungeons? u have got to be kidding me!)

But i just wanted to say thanks to AE for filling that MMO void in my life for a couple months waiting for EQ2 to come out. now that that time is upon us, i bid Horizons farewell and nice try.

P.S. Maybe u guys could just start making that amazing in game music for other MMOs. Least that way u could make some money.

That music is awesome. Graphics are pretty cool and I like the choice of character races. Satyr, Pixie and Dragon are pretty original.

needs very high spec machine to load up the graphics engine,

my fx9700 could barely cope, which caused lots of lag all the time.

i had fun for a while, but lag killed it for me

  • Lag seems to be mostly focussed on the amount of RAM your system has not necessarily on the graphics card you have. If you have under 1gb of system RAM you will see a declining performance over the course of a few hours. This can be solved with a simple re-log.

You can't see DAoC compete? hahaha

dude that games been around for quite a bit....and it has alot of players....plus with the new expansion and stuff I thought people are jsut gonna up and leave a game they been playing for awhile with the new content....

I mean DAoC is a great game.....I love the 1000+ skill you can put into crafting......and stuff...love the way the classes and all are handled.....and races....the pvp....battlegrounds...frontiers....I mean this game is great...and it is alot of fun.

I mean say EQ2 never came out....or hasn't come out yet.....

thats like saying you can't see EQ competeing with WoW.....IMO they are both my favorite games....EQ was my home and what started MMO's for me...and wow if my other favorite becasue its set in the warcraft times and all..and the game is great to me in every aspect.

the game doesnt use your video card at-all-period.

All you need is at least a Geforce 2 or equiv with 32MB of ram. That is it.

The game doesn't even touch the video card and is totally dependant on main computer power. You need AT LEAST 1GB ram to even play effectively. You need AT LEAST 3.0GHZ processor to not be frustrated by the crappy performance and really a smoking fast larged cache Hard drive with SATA being preferred. Even then you will still have to relog every 2 hours if you port a lot more so if your machine is below the above stats.

Horizons is a poorly coded and developed game. Lack of proper coding documentation and implementatio of a development plan have created continual messes for HZ as one patch after another breaks more and more of the shoddy code.

So yes if you want to see a poorly designed coded and implemented game Horizons is what you should look at. Then go look at games like WoW, EQ2 DAOC and EQ for superbly designed implemented and coded games.

So unless Tulga Games scraps whats there and now and starts from scratch Horizons future looks rather bleak.

It is amazing to see the number of people who flame this game. Yes, HZ had(has) its problems, and they are to numerous to list here, but during my six months in the game I did see some things get better. There were code improvements and optimizations. They moved some of the graphics processing from the CPU the the GPU and that seemed to help(wasn't perfected yet but better). Yet when I left they still had a long way to go. It has been over nine months since I left, and I have to say there were some great times I had in HZ. And I believe the biggest problem was customer service and the way they ignored their fanbase when it came to improvements.

But I agree I had some good times and I thank HZ for those. More than anything else this was a game of possibilities, and if it ever gets fixed the possibilities will be endless.

Aye I had some good times in this game, hopefully another game will take some of the concepts this one had and expand and improve on them. Farewell Horizons. image

    I started playing HZ in Jan 04, and finished in dec 04.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

The game was incomplete at the start, especially dragons, and a great many people left in the first 2 months after launch. After that the game continued to haemorrhage for the next 4 months. During that time the game slowly, and I mean slowly, improved, but it’s bad reputation, lack of advertising, and slow rate of improvement saw too many players quit, not enough join.

So they were forced into bankruptcy, and part of the rescue plan involved the server merge. The merge broke the game, and they are still fixing it.

Over a year after release the game is still effectively in beta, with a hardcore fan base paying for it.

HZ was released during a golden era, during a time when the older games were fading, and the new were some way off. They had a chance to snag a sizable portion of the market and keep it, with expansions, and continually adding content and events. They blew it. EQ2 and WoW ripped a huge chunk of the remaining fan base away, leaving a remnant; hardcore fans and noobs. Dark and Light promises much that HZ once did, and far more, it might well be the final nail in Istarias coffin.

I have since quit EQ2 after playing for 2 months and am now playing WoW. i tried to deal with the lack of PvP but couldnt. having a good time with WoW atm, its a fun game. EQ2 should take some notes on how to make your character customizable and fun. racial traits are a joke.
