When I saw the contest info posted for this game, I thought it might be interesting. After all, there aren't really many options out there for horror/vampire fans in the MMO world. There wasn't much mentioned about the game, but it implied it was an upcoming MMORPG that would be having an alpha testing phase. There was no mention of Facebook to my recollection.
However, now that the contest has ended, it's clear that the game is nothing more than another one of those little Facebook apps that try to get users to play, typically in the hopes that they will spend real-world money to buy some perks offered in the game. It's not an MMO, it's not an RPG, it's none of the above. I think this was a bad move on the part of both MMORPG.com and the "developers" of City of Eternals. Maybe someone could have done some homework prior to making this an "MMO contest" and leading members of the site to their "game"...
I certainly hope this won't be a trend on this site of allowing those little Facebook apps to declare themselves as "MMORPG's". That is just sick.

I agree. If MMORPG.com is going to expand its game database to include these rediculous games I will be finding a new source for my MMORPG information.
Wow, do you read? Why does everyone think it's a Facebook game? You LOG IN using Facebook on the City of Eternals website and play a browser-based 3D MMORPG set in a modern world where you play a vampire. The game is currently in alpha and has quite a few bugs and lag. However, it's a cool concept.

It's not just another Facebook app. It's trying to help revolutionize the world of social gaming by making an MMORPG more social.

Yea not gonna verify any of this myself, but if mmorpg.com did endorse a facebook app as a real game, its pretty lame. Might seem desperate in a way.
Read my post. You all are a bit misinformed.

It's because this one actually is an MMORPG. It's a casual MMORPG, but an MMORPG nonetheless, not a a Facebook app. It's not even played through Facebook. You just login using Facebook.
...and thanks to the mod that got rid of Huanghuang's posts.

So I won one of the alpha accounts but it doesn't work. Go me. Way to win a useless prize.

Yeah, I "won" a spot as well, but all it did was send me to a page where I could give them my email to request and invitation.
It wont let me play though, it just takes me to page to request an invite...

You can "request an invite" at their main site anyway, so I don't see how anyone in that contest really won anything.
You get sent to a private page where you request an invite that they send you personally. It guarantees you an invite.
Also, just curious, we've established it's not just a Facebook app right?

Still looks like a Facebook app to me. So, it's a "graphical" Facebook app... You have to be a Facebook member, and you have to tie in your Facebook account to play the game. They also post up your game accomplishments in a thread, just like the other Facebook games do. The ONLY difference with this game seems to be that there is a graphical component to the gameplay (and from the video link in the earlier post, it looks like a pretty cheaply done one at that). All the characters looked pretty much the same, as did the enemies.
This looks like a bad attempt at calling a graphical Facebook game an "MMO". This is some thin ice, and sounds like a pretty shady move. If it's ONLY available via Facebook, and REQUIRES a Facebook account, IT'S A FACEBOOK APP! There's a game on there called FarmTown that has players hanging out in the same market locale, so you might as well start calling that an MMO too...
Dude, it's alpha. Everyone looks the same because customization isn't in yet. A lot of features aren't in yet.
It's fits all the requirements to be put on the MMORPG.com Game List. FarmVille doesn't.
It's trying to revolutionize social gaming by making an MMORPG social.
So why does it link to Facebook? Because Facebook is a social site and as you're playing, you can mouse over someone and see who they are (first name and picture) and, if the information is public, where they're from.
Once again, revolutionizing social gaming. It'll let you sign in through other social networks later. I'm assuming anything that runs through Twitter is a Facebook app as well? I'm assuming if this exact same game let you create an account and log in the typical way that it would still be a Facebook app? No.
It's a fully featured MMORPG with a new social component never seen before. Not respectable?
Also, it's no more poorly done than any of various 2D F2P MMORPGs that you would acknowledge as MMORPGs.
EDIT: Oh, I suppose you'd like to be the one sending a message to the development team made of ex-SOE employees that have worked on Free Realms, PlanetSide, Everquest, etc that their MMORPG is nothing more than a Facebook app.
EDIT2: You could have easily checked the site to realize that for the time being, you have to log in through Facebook. Of course, like I said, it's going to be changed.

This game is no different from:
... and any other similar "multiplayer" facebook apps where players interact with each other, aside from its graphical component.
As for it being revolutionary in some sense for being "social", that's a load. ALL MMORPG's are social in their very definition by being "Massively Multiplayer". Players interact with each other by combat together, guilds, chat, and other various activities. There is nothing special about being affiliated with a social networking site like Facebook, other than it's a good opportunity to have a more captive audience that has already been gathered for you.
What does this "MMO" offer that other Facebook apps don't? Graphics.
What does it have that other MMO's don't? Only the requirement to belong to a social networking site (Oh, and a vampire theme).
And I would be happy to tell a former developer who worked on a legitimate project and lost their job that their current 2D project hardly qualifies as an MMO, any more than Farm Town.
Dude, put your invite in, wait for the email, and play the damn game before you judge. It's more of an MMO than some games listed here.
It's more of an MMO than Farmtown.
It's not just a Facebook app.
By revolutionize, I meant blur the line between games and social platforms.
Correction, btw, 2.5D. =P (yes, I'm being stubborn now. You're going to be ignorant, so I'm going to be stubborn.)

Even if it was on facebook, so what? Is there any reason why a facebook game where lots of people can log on and interact with each other cannot be an MMO?

Where's the Vote for lest informed post of the year button? Obviously this guy is trying to get some contenders in before Jan 31.
Well hey, I'm a major vampire fan so if you got a key and don't want it or don't like the game send it my way via PM...
Venge and grimfall, thank you.
For the history he has in MMOs in his siggy, you'd think he'd know better.

MMO or not i will be playing it when i can because it looks pretty good. I for one think it is an MMO not a standard one but the industry is changing anyway so lets see how well this works out.
Do you want a referral? They give you 5 with every alpha invite. ^^

Do you want a referral?
Yes please!
The term MMO (IMO) really is evolving into an umbrella term, with a whole bunch of sub-genre's underneath it now. You can have traditional MMO's (EQ, WoW), facebook type, CRPG (guildwars), DDO style, FPS...
