DAOC 2? Hell yes I'd buy it in a heartbeat, then worry about my divorce later.. (through neglect due to gaming addiction..)

  • SimielSimiel Member Posts: 149

much much more likely IF Mythics independently worked on it.

I would definitely give it a shot.

loved the original. I would play it if they did it justice.

As good as early DAOC was, Mythic lost its focus well before EA came in and starting digging the grave. Mythic lost focus of what made their game great and instead of focusing on improving the existing core gameplay, like putting resources into updating the gfx engine and existing classes' particular abilities, they went ahead with TOA and that was the beginning of the end.

I would rather actually play a very updated pre-TOA DAOC I, as in not have to buy a boxset/expansion, but more like resub when they release a completely rolled back DAOC with a UNREAL 3 DAOC and maybe a revamped RvR experience. Tweak siege stuff, tweak the Frontiers as in bring back the OF style of rolling and undulating terrain instead of the new Frontiers--fairly flat or sharp cliffs.

I would basically bring back the Old frontiers with a slight change--make two to three ways out of the Realm Keep area.

I have some more ideas but basically I want a tweaked-up old Daoc and I would resub in a minute

Gladly play it as long as they changed it so people couldn't buff themselves and leave their buffers safely hidden in a keep.

    Would i play it? Yes.

Mythic , in my personal opinion, has much to prove though.

I was one of the many who believed WAR would be a reproduction of the great Dark Age product. Obviously it took many aspects of another well known game instead of Dark Age. Yes it took some Dark Age material but all in all , it was not what i personally expected.

After playing WAR for a few months, cancelling and puking that bad taste out for a few more months i went back to Dark Age. It may be different these days but it beats the hell outta what WAR was for me.

Now if the question was what would Dark Age 2 have to bring to the table to retain my sub? Here is a small portion of a wish list:

    1) Keep 8 man groups.

    2) 3 Realms

    3) PVE : Grinding mobs/camps will get you as much exp in a manner of good time as grind quests. I love grinding mobs. Av City, DF Lyonese, even the frontiers all have hours of my time camping around there solo and in groups. i enjoy questing to an extent, but ultimatly i am a bit old school and enjoy grinding my bar out.

    4) Skill based characters. People will yell and scream about class balance. I dont care. Gear should be a by product (secondary) of who you are. Have awesome gear, but know how to use it right.

    5) Spell interuption. If you get hit casting a heal or fireball, that spell is over. You have to recast. In RvR, this seperates good players from great ones.

    6) Exp loss from pve Death. This keeps the pve a bit more exciting and meaningful.

    7) RvR: get back to the classic zones etc. Emain was a masterpiece. If they retooled it with some NF aspects, it would be amazing.

    8) Game Theme: I love little things about the game. Midgard felt like Scandinavia. Albion felt like much of Wales, Scotland and England and Hibernia felt like Ireland (even though i have never been to Ireland). The weather , the night/day time effects, ambient sounds and even the music all played a small part in the great atmosphere.

    9) Rethink TOA. Maybe there was another way to implement the skill sets from that ex pack. TOA was the beginning of the end.

Im sure there are more things. But for God sakes, Mythic you lost my trust after WAR and a Dark Age 2 will have to blow my friggin socks off to get that trust back. Please stay true to the product.

If you read this rant, thanks for your time.

Chill out. Besides, we all know that -ALL- MMOs work off of an action bar so... sorry if I just crushed your hopes and dreams. :)

Edit: I'd most likely play as long as the animations were smooth in the 2nd. Don't really care about graphics. I guess it was too late for me to try the original recently, but the combat animations were absolutely terrible.

Only if not just 2 realms, nor even 3 realms as in the orignal.  Must have 4 realms.

Also, a better method of dealing with population related issues, either by dealing with imbalances better then any previous realm-based system has so far managed to do, and/or by methods that advocate rapid rebalancing.

Tbh,the graphics were awesome, but the Animation for DAoC was terrible. People would teleport back and forth, left and right.

However DAoC 2 would definently attract attention, and if i were mythic/EA id give it a go.

I would love to see a DAoC 2 cant think of many who wouldn't.

Having said that what would we want in a DAoC 2?

Personaly I loved DAoC up through ToA more or less, the game was gold I know we could complane and did at the time about the amount of time it took to level, the fact that you prity well needed a group to hunt effcently, the waiting in line for a spawn (lack of instnacing) but haveing had all thouse features for some time in every other game I can say that thouse features where what made the game so good. It was an occomplishment to hit 50, you didn't do it with your eys closed solo the whole way over night like we do in most games now, the social interaction we had in DAoC classic I haven't found to such a degree since and I think that is because the world was open, the strengths and weekness of the classes lent them selves to group play over solo play (hunting as a solo Armsman was SLLLLLLOW) the difficutly of mobs soloing as a wizard you hunt low or learn to keep the mob at distance or you die; better yet group with the Armsman and own. Since EA has there nasty hands on Mythic I would bet my left magic crystal that it gets sqrewed up but imo they could take DAoC Classic update the graphics and animations perhaps smoth out the UI a bit (best leave the classic in as an option) and I will gladly pay 60-80 USD for the box and happily pay 15 USD a month hell I would be willing to go in for long term subsucription year, 2, 3, life time. . .

Having said all that I have very little confadenc that EA would or even could do DAoC2, if they try it will be another pos like WAR but hay they might supprise me.

I would be just as happy though if they gave us the damn Origins server, DAoC2 would be great but if I cant have that can we at least get Origins?

Things that would make DAoC a successful:

    1)  Focusing on streamlining the PvE content to where quests are the prime source of getting items, but not the prime source of gaining exp.  Exp farm groups should be the best source of exp as it promotes grouping and sociability which is what made EQ and old skool DAoC such a success.

    2)  Keeping CC at the same strength as it is right now, but increasing the cost of power at least double to avoid spamming.  Or perhaps keeping all CC on timers instead of being able to recast immediately.

    3)  Vastly increasing the number of random quests to be done all around the three realms.  I should be capable of simply running around cursed forest and finding a quest to take down an epic mob.

    4)  Make items won through quests actually worth aquiring instead of selling for vendor loot.  For that matter, make items that are found off mobs by simple exp'ing worth equipping instead of vendoring.  I'm sick of entering barrows and killing mobs and getting nothing but burial shrouds and 90% quality items.  Make items much more rare, but definitely worth it.  Introduce rarity tiers to items like magical, rare and elite.

    5)  Add tons of lore to the world.  I can't count the number of times in which I found myself on a horse wondering what the background story is to this game.  The world in DAoC is one of the most interesting worlds in all MMO's, yet there is almost no effort to capitalize off this.  Why are there epic mobs in llyn barfog?  What's special about the green knight and glacier giant?  More importantly, why should I bother to go fight them?  Be sure to add lore that links up with the original game instead of simply pretending the first game never existed.

    6)  Keep the combat the same.  Don't get me wrong.  It pains me to support a target-and-fire mmo.  I was one of the first to support games like Darkfall and Mortal Online when they were originally announced because of their free combat system.  However DAoC 2 begs to be an upgrade to EQ and DAoC.  Don't screw around with a system that works.  Keep the interrupt system with casters, keep the style chains, but streamline the styles to allow more possibilities instead of spamming amethyst slash, then sapphire over and over again.

    7)  Re-introduce realm-invasion.  Any member of any realm should be capable of entering their enemy's realm and fighting.  And before anyone begins to cry "griefing", simply place the portal keeps in high level zones so that enemies of the realm will have to travel a distance on foot in order to gank lowbies.  And if they do make it there, all you have to do is spam in broad channel that there's a high level eldritch in zone XX.

    8)  Keep Old Frontiers and allow extra zones to be accessable based on the amount of RvR activity.  For example, if there is very little rvr activity due to it being late at night, simply lock off all zones except for the three original.  As RvR activity increases, make more zones accessible.

    9)  Make epic dungeons hold the best loot possible.  As much as it pains me to take an idea from WoW, this is exactly what makes people stay subscribed to a game.  The prospect of advancing your character even further.  In order to fully complete your character in EQ, it could take 7 months to finish all the raids required.  Some would argue that you character is never finished.  Make epic dungeons the most difficult encounters in the game.  I want to see a new streamlined version of Tuscaran Glacier, Caer Sidi and Galladoria.

    10)  Add tons of unique mobs to zones with quests attached to them.  Add several scripts which makes the encounters different and refreshing every time you attempt them.

    11)  Keep sieging effectively the same, perhaps fixing a few problems with bugs associated with sieging.

    12)  Eliminate the ability for bainshee's to cast through walls.  Also fix all line of sight problems and streamline any server problems.  I should be seen jumping less than a second after I hit the jump button.  And the jump should look like a jump instead of me teleporting my character 4 feet into the air, then back down again.

    13)  Make sure the character graphics look good instead of the hideous characters from the Catacombs expansion.

    14)  Keep the zones the same and properly populate them accordingly.  Add exp bonuses appropriately so that each zone is worth exploring.  There's nothing worse than having dead zones in an mmo.  Grant a 5 minute teleport spell to the capital city once you level to train your skills, sell and allow any groupmates you're with to do the same.  I think it's stupid to either leave your exp group and suicide, train, then hop onto a horse and spend 10-20 minutes heading back to your group's spot and re-group again.

    15)  Keep the level cap at level 50, but add 50% exp to the first 5 bulbs of exp and reduce 25% to the last 5 bulbs of exp.  This will still increase the amount of exp by 25%, yet will make people feel like they've accomplished something and seem like they're leveling up quickly once they get to 5 bulbs.

    16)  Reduce the amount of rp's required to gain a realm rank by 10%.

    17)  Make Darkness Falls epic encounters have the second best equipment in the game, but make the gear drop more frequently.  Remove seals from DF altogether and require gear to be aquired through quests or epic encounters.  I think it's truly stupid to get your armor and weapons from merchants that you're capable of killing at max level.  You should have to work for your equipment.

    18)  Balance classes accordingly.  I won't expound further on that.  I trust the developers to figure out what is appropriate.

    19)  Alter classes roles in pve and pvp.  Allow necromancers to be a viable rvr class.  Allow Nightshades to be a viable class for endgame pve content.

    20)  Increase the number of dungeons in the game for all three realms and remove instancing altogether.

There are probably several other things that could be fixed/added, but I can't think of them now.  These changes should be made across the board.

Make DAOC look like WAR, and you would have one hell of a game.  period.

  • ThorqemadaThorqemada Member UncommonPosts: 1,282

Daoc 2 would be a good news if they really take the good things and evolve them.

    RvR zones

    Safe PvE zones

You can even introduce anarchic zones where ffa pvp happens. Its only a matter of World-layout and each type of PvP can be bound to diffrent zones exclusive.

    Sandbox-Zones.

A Crafting that is not only helpfull but the process of crafting is fun or at least interesting.

Equipment that needs maintenance to stay in god shape.

    Encumbrance.

    A bit less CC.

Stringent Lore for each Realm with nice epic quests but get rid of the fedex and 08/15 type thats only boring.

!NO FPS-like control - thats only for shooters!

A monthly fee of not more than 10 Bucks ore a way to pay for gametime using a consumable type of item/equipement that is only used up by action (fighting) and not by socialising etc.

And let be Daoc2 really DAOC 2.0 and not an "EQ to EQ2-like" !!!

DAoC could use some graphic refinement, don't take me wrong, as it is it's much better looking than newer and bigger MMO's.

I would reactivate both my accounts in a heartbeat if they focused on DAoC again, problem is that Mythic is no more, the name remains but the developers are gone, it's now controlled by Bioware, which is not a bad company, but they don't have the experience on MMO's and of course the evil EA hand is on everything (yes yes I'm a EA hater).

After WAR, I don't think that DAoC 2 would be a good thing, they obviously didn't know how to transfer the great RvR they have in DAoC into WAR, as I mentioned before, and now with most of the Mythic staff gone, replicating DAoC's RvR in a whole new game like DAoC 2 would be a waste of time and resources, stick to DaoC and just improve it and actually make it a main MMO on top of the list, not something on the side burner.

No way,i don't like it's design at all. After i have tried about 20 different games this year,i have even more respect for SOE,man games have been frustrating me to almost anger, and i never get angry or feel outright hate, until this year.

It is like the designers of games in general don't actually play their own game or have any clue how to design one properly. You player should act and feel like it would in real life, there should not be any kind of special hotbar or key mapping just to control your player.

Now in saying that,i know i have enjoyed EA sports games like Hockey and Basketball, they were great fun and for the longest time EA was my fave sports game developer. So maybe now a days EA has a lot better people and a better idea of how to design a game than they did back in the DAOC days, but i somehow doubt it because their first SEGA hockey game was out years before DAOC was,so i think they lack the ability when comes to MMORPG design.

i might also add that the games i loved from EA were actually designed by outside developers,i am not even sure if EA has an in house developing studio,so i guess it all depends on who is developing the game.

Anyone that knows me ,knows i am not a big fan of WOW,but after the past 5 years ,i can truly see how Blizzard/SOE/Square Enix stand miles above the rest of the developers.

Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.

Yes but only if it is not made by THIS Mythic.....................bring back the old guys.

  • LiquidFire_LiquidFire_ Member Posts: 2

The essentials of grouping and the effective RVR system is what causes me to think back to the days when I would play it, 3-4 years ago. I still get a tingling feeling when I think of the Realm wars, they were a truly amazing experience. Obviously I'd be all for another version, but I am a hard person to keep hooked, no game has done it for me since the old Mythic did. Every other MMO I've tried since then seems empty after a while, and I've basically turned my back on the genre for now...... So it would likely take the REAL Mythic to hook me again...That or some genius developer, or wait, the old Mythic folks were genius!
