LOTRO/TURBINE lied

markh777markh777 Member UncommonPosts: 150

I have been a Tolkien fan for many years and got LOTRO and was enjoying it thoroughly...untli recently. I had left the game due to finances and in October of this year I got a 3 months using a time card. I was especially excited because on all the in game splash screens they said that all who purchased a multi month plan would get Mirkwood for free as long as the multi-month was 3 months or more. No where in the splash screens did LOTRO/Turbine state the "how of it." The Mirkwood was released and I didnt get the upgrade. After several tickets and emails I finally got my answer. If you use a game-time card you are NOT eligible for the free upgrade. How can they do this? It was not stated that way and buying a game time card is still paying Turbine for game time. Needless to say I will no longer play LOTRO and am thoroughly disgusted with LOTRO/Turbine for lying to thier faithful player base. Just a heads up to all. Be well and have a great holiday season.

did you buy a 3 month card, or 3 one month cards?

If I understand you right, you bought one 3 month card, in which case, it totally blows. me? I just pay one month at a time. when Im high enough level to enjoy mirkwood, I'll buy it. until then Im enjoying the game.

sorry to hear about this though =(

Yeah as said, that deal ended on 11/18/09.  Guess it through you into shock for over a month.

I dunno, they had some VERY in depth posts/area to read about the whole deal.  I don't recall it mentioning time cards as part of it at all. As your account is not "active" in the fact that after the time cards run out, your account ends.  While when you PAY for the monthly/3 monthly, your account auto renews unless you cancel it, thus giving you an "active" account.  I believe ALL you had to do, was go to your account, put in credit card details, select the "3 month plan" and your account would become "active".

You could than, after getting the game free, cancel the 3 months, since you had not paid yet for the plan since you were still on the time card.

Of course, since you did not read the ToS about it, nor think about it outside of "NERDRAAAAAAAAAAAGEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE", you missed your chance.

Ive hunted the Trollshaws so its not hard for me to spot one. They are usually  accompanied by a bad attitude.

It was in the fine print. The fact that you didn't just use a credit or debit card indicates that your probably still a teen. Sorry but you really need to learn to read things through.

I dont recall and am not intrested in looking it up at the moment but didn't the dea state a 3+month sub? prepaid game time is not a sub i.e. non recuring. Never understood why people buy the prepaid cards, usualy ends up costing you more than just using the sub and you can acomplish the same thing (pay for sub then cancel) you get you full paid time typicaly cheeper than in store game cards.

    To the OP:

I know your pain. The same thing happened to me recently with Funcom and Age of Conan. They ran a special where you could get extra game time, special items and a free copy of the upcoming expansion if you subscribed for certain intervals of time.

I used time cards that I had saved and added a YEAR of sub time ... which didn't qualify me for the special offers. I was LIVID to say the least as they did not specify that time cards didn't apply.

That being said, I would still hand Turbine money over Funcom.

    Why?

Well Turbine has long been one of my personal favorites (Regardless of AC2 ... crap happens). Funcom on the other hand has screwed me more than once (Anarchy Online, Age of Conan).

Grandpagamer is correct. If it makes you feel any better, I have a lifetime sub and could have received Mirkwood for free by buying the Adventurer's Pack for $20. Only problem is I never knew because Turbine was still sending e-mails (including those announcing the offer) to my old e-mail address, even though I changed my e-mail address via the Turbine account settings almost 6 months ago. I found out about the deal, the day after it ended, checked my old e-mail account and sure enough, there was the offer.

It sucks, but that's life. You win some and you lose a bunch!
