Darkfall or mortal?

KnowKnow Member Posts: 8

I know that mortal is not out yet, but i am looking to start a new mmo and these two look the best to me.  I could use some advise though.  I know that it is not a fair question seeing that mortal is not out yet but i ask anyway.  I want an mmo with a massive world(open world),  PvP,  to raid a pillage.  A world with many options.  When i start a game i will stick with it, it is not likely that i will jump ship and start over.  So i  want to pick the best one for me. I played FFXI for years and liked it but always wanted something a little different.  I love to play fps's but like the interaction of mmo's,  and like the setting of medieval/fantasy.  The more the players can do and control in the game the better, be king and make the rules extra....   Not that i what to be a king just an example, i prefer to battle it out with my comrades at my side.   the bigger the battles can be the better.  Your help is greatly appreciated!    If there is another game i should consider please fell free to say.

                                                                          thanks

I'd highly recommend Darkfall over Mortal if you are looking for large battles in one of the largest sandboxes.  Mortal online's gameplay is in a very rough state right now, while Darkfall has a year of polish with two expansions since release.

Should be an open beta for Mortal in a few weeks (3?!) if you can wait for it to try free.

I suggest Mortal over Darkfall, hands down.

Can someone tell me the difference between the two.  I would like to know from someone who has played both.  Again i now it is a loaded question seeing that moral is only in beta, but o well

I have played both. I guess in the end, I am not a fan of this genre. But I can honestly say that I enjoyed Darkfall much more than MO. I can't stress enough how exponentially superior Darkfall is to MO.

This is just my opinion. Don't take it for fact.

    Compelling argument, lol.

These are some of the Darkfall features:

    * Role-playing, strategy, and shooter action in a MMOG

    * The largest handcrafted online world of its kind.

    * Over 10 thousand concurrent players per game world.

    * The largest MMORPG battles ever - involving thousands.

    * Ultimate PvP action, the #1 choice of top players and clans.

    * Seamless, zoneless, non-instanced world. No invisible walls.

    * No safe zones. Full loot. PvP everywhere with accountability.

    * No more leveling. Improve the skills you use.

    * Fight on mounts, ships, man cannons and vehicles.

    * Siege and conquer cities, build and protect your own.

    * Craft any item in the world and put your name on it.

Mortal online is only good on paper at the moment and to avoid any heartache and frustration from currently very buggy state I would stay clear of this game for about a year or at the very minimum of 6 months.

MO is a scam.... at least till/if it launches.

Empty Promises +  Pay to be alpha tester = SCAM

I didn't beta test Darkfall... but I don't think they made pay ppl for Alpha with promises of a release in a completely unreal time frame.

It was called Vaporware for about 7yrs though. Never heard anything about it being a scam.

I play Darkfall, not played MO but do follow it. Honestly right now Darkfall is the easy answer. Mortal may be an amazing game, it may end up being better then Darkfall...but it is a maybe and it is a good 6 months to a year until I think we see Mortal really turn into the game it was made to me, assuming they survive.

Darkfall is far from perfect but what it does, it does well and is on the right track and will keep on improving. I think Darkfall is the safer and better choice at this time. A year from now, who the hell knows!

    Darkfall:

PVP Focused.   Massive Scale PVP.    Faster combat.  Mix of third/first person view.   Player owned Boats!    Pocketable mounts.  PVE centered around finding "magical" chests in the wilderness.   No skill cap.   Developed by a dishonest indy dev.

    MO:

Equal PVE/PVP/Exploration/Crafting focus.   Smaller Scale PVP.   Slower combat.  First person view only.   No player owned boats yet.    Non-pocketable mounts.   PVE extent is not really known at this time.  There will be dungeons/one time spawn creatures/lore available.    Has a skill cap.   Developed by a honest indy dev.

Both games DO have their negatives.   Mortal Online isnt even launched yet Darkfall is several months old.     I did the Darkfall thing and found I didnt care for it.   People say its getting better!?  I personally will never give Adventurine another shot as I have a terrible impression of them and their shady business practices.

Im not going to say which you should choose. IMO thats up to you to decide your gameplay preference.  Just remember both are INDY and will both lack polish you find in normal games.

I've played both betas.  Darkfall was in a 100x better state than the MO beta.  That said, Darkfall is 1000x better now than it was in beta.

I think MO has a little more potential - but it's still a ways away from being there. It definitely will be a better immersion type game with a better working world atmosphere (I know that doesn't make sense - but it does to me haha hard to explain). MO will be a lot better for those who enjoy role-playing elements. It won't be a huge gankfest and KOS anyone you see to an extent. It will feel more real according to the time period - imo - because I don't think you'd find thousands of cities (such as in Agon) in massive siege warfare 24/7 and complete, never-ending chaos (nothing wrong with that - I like that - but it's always nice to have a more RP feel for me anyway). The graphics will certainly be better and I think the world will probably feel more alive (not hard to do at the moment since the DF pre-made cities have about 5 npc's in them and there aren't any out and about randomly).

they are not really similar games, in darkfall for instance you can maximize every skill, so you can be everything, in MO you can not. DF is more time out so you will find the world a little bit filled. Crafting system for what I understand would be better in MO, but lets see last patch.

IMHO, I think both games are not really that similar

MO is about a year away in production before it is worth playing, playing it before that will only leave you with the dissatisfy sense that you are in a paid beta, most companies these days hope to get their product out with just enough features as they work on the rest of it.

    Rise above hate.

If you want an actual sandbox then Mortal wins but if you want a pvp game then go with darkfall. I'm not gonna argue with anyone who doesn't like my opinion so don't quote me.

I play Darkfall, quit, sold my character and went to play Aion, I quit after 2 weeks. After playing a game that takes actual aiming (fps) its hard to go back to a game where you can pve with 1 hand (tab, push 1,2,3 tab 1,2,3 etc) I was going to try Mortal Online until I seen they punish you for pvping (stat loss for pking)
