Returning to the Game...

Hey all.  I just purchased LoTRO for the second time and have begun the installation/update process.  I've been gone for a year+, and was wondering what I should look forward to.  I have a 50 Champion, and I expect to take it to cap.  What would you suggest I check out after a year has passed?  Also, what's one of the more populated servers that I could jump in to?  Thanks a lot for any responses.

Brandywine seems to be one of the most if not the most populated.

Get your champ to about lvl 55 and go into Moria. Actually the "outside" area before Moria will get you from 50 to 55.

Also check out the new skirmish system.

Server xfers cost money so if you want one, you'll have to pay.

There's been 2 expansions since SoA so there's going to be a lot different from what you remember...  Legendary weapons, combat system overhaul, trait system overhaul, more solo oriented questing, skirmishes, crafting guilds... And in just the past year they've added Eregion, Moria, Loth, and now Mirkwood.  When you think about it, there really is a ton of new stuff.

I would suggest, before you get re acquainted with your level 50, that maybe you roll an alt and play that to get reacquainted with how the game plays. There has been much work done in lower levels, so most will be fresh for you.

Yup, I totally had to.  I came back and felt completely overwhelmed with all the new details to the game.  It plays so much better in just a years time.  The hardest part for me at this point in time is remembering how to get to places!

Ha ha, dont feel bad. I just got out of Moria where I was lost most of the time the whole time :)

Yeah i can relate to that. Going back this weekend. Although last time i was in Moria, i was totally confused. The legendary weapon system is great though. Not to mention they look quite pretty too. I think for the first week or so i'll visit the old Bree land area and just mine those resources. For some reason i enjoyed doing that.

Also helps when you have a horse...Would be nice to get one of those 'festival' ones though.

So i've seen, its a good move on their part. I have to admit im happy with Turbine and what they've done with the game. At the moment im aiming to get through Moria and see Lothlorien for the first time. Im happy to say im getting that first MMO buzz again, even though this is probably my tenth lol.

I'm just coming back for the welcome back week, and my first spontaneous reaction is: why the fuck have me download the game client and then do another hour and a half of patching, are they really THAT intent on making sure I don't come back?

Yes I realise I'm overreacting, it just pisses me off to download the most recent client only to find out it's not the most recent client.

Lost and depressed, where are the good MMOs at?

This depends on where you get it. Apparently , you did not get the most recent :)

Im confused as to your meaning. You d/load what you have paid for. If your talking about getting MOM and SOM in the free weekend  you wont get them  unless you have purchased them in the past.

I just returned recently and found a big difference with the game. When I originally played I just couldn't get into it but now it seems different and much more enjoyable. I can't figure out exactly what they've done in the last year but it's definitely a lot better this time around.

That's not what I was getting at at all, but in factnow that I did log in I kinda wished they would have thrown those two in as well. I mean this welcome back week is to get the old players to resub, right? So what's the harm in letting them start of with moria on their lvl 50? I realise you could come up with a trillion stupid reasons why they shouldn't, but, in my mind at least, this would be the rational thing to do; if I'm invited back to see how muc hthe game has changed/improved then why artificially block me from experiencing the new levels? If I resub I still have to buy the expansions, so why not give me a sneak peak.

so I came back after a half year or so to head into mirkwood. well they call it datadisk but its like ordinary update added to game - new region with few stuff. moria was datadisk and about mirkwood i´m dissappointed. turbine anounced working on a new game in mmo genre and it can be felt in work done in lotro so my subscription ends 3rd january and i´m not going to pay another month ( till new and big content is added of course ;) ). if you wanna have some fun check my gallery called bugs in lotro..
