Been searching for ages for a mmo to play. I dont want to bother too much about levelling up, or trading, or creating a super-particular-class character. Just want some fighting and maybe teamwork. Last played Entropia.
I see your point. I havent played too many mmos but I didnt enjoy Playing Silk Road which was just plain grind. I guess I would like a game that isnt obsessed with one factor and is more about fun. AM I making sense?
If you're married to the F2P side of things, take a look at Dungeons and Dragons Online or Runes of Magic. What do you consider to be good graphics? That would help determine suggestions.

Fun is entirely subjective. Can you explicate your version of fun? My version of fun is exploring in a nice open world, fighting off pk'ers, being involved in guild vs guild political battles in a leveless environment. No games that are up to my standards exist so far like that. Mortal Online might, we'll see.
I will look into DnD and I am currently in the process of downloading the RoM client
I dont like Entropia graphics, or cutesy graphics, I do like WoW style graphics
As for explicating my version of fun; I too like guild vs guild stuff preferably with territory and buildings (one reason why tried Shadow Bane - but its shutdown now)
But I also like another type of MMO - ones like Wurm. Unfortuntaely Wurms graphics and interface as well as the size of the community lets it down (not to mention its indy feel)
If you weren't against the cutesy stuff, I'd recommend Luminary. Sieges, PvP arenas, you can rule towns and even a whole server if elected so, faction wars, classless system, amazing economic system (though poorly implemented or perhaps just aimed at the wrong audience), can craft just about any in-game item, "never ending quest system," etc.
""But Coyote, you could learn! You only prefer keyboard and mouse because that's all you've ever known!" You might say right before you hug a rainforest and walk in sandals to your drum circle where you're trying to raise group consciousness of ladybugs or whatever it is you dirty goddamn hippies do when you're not busy smoking pot and smelling bad." Coyote's Howling: Death of the Computer
I'd say Guildwars. Though teamwork isn't required, you do have thee option to micro-manage by recruiting NPC group members, but this of course is an option. But, 95% of the time you need a group to do anything. Graphics are nice (it's about as good if not better than WoW's graphics), it's f2p after you but the game. It's non- grindy, story based and HIGHLY instanced. Don't know if you like that or not. As for the community, although it's quiet, it's good. You can buy the game and all it's expansions/ campaigns fairly cheap. Classes are great, though different, they all have their ways of accomplishing the same things in different ways. Combat is good, it isn't gear/ level based, as you can get the best armor weapons just by spending maybe 20 game hours playing it. How combat works is hard to describe, as it works a bit like a trading card game. Lastly, leveling is good, because you get to level 20 and you're done. But at the same time there's still tons of stuff you can do. Give it a try, even though it isn't completely F2P, it seems like what you're looking for.
Your description has me intrigued - Im gonna try Luminary ... oh wait - Nooooo!!! They announced that their shutting down in January! [No scrcasm intended]
Ive been told good things about Guild Wars before - maybe Ill buy it in the future as I just ordered COD MW2 baby!

global agenda might be of interest to you. while it's an mmo, it also has a f2p option that gives you access to everything but territory control and auction houses. it's a skill-based shooter with no grind, emphasizing tactical teamwork (12v12 or less). and the community is the most civil and mature ive seen in a game. thus far, at least.
Guild Wars is what you want. I played the game religiously for 4 years, and it is still to this day, my favorite MMO. The teamwork, communication, and strategy that goes into it is beyond belief. If your into PvP , get into the Guild vs Guild scene early on. There is a lot of stuff to learn but the competitiveness is amazing.

correct me if i am wrong...but isn't the game still in beta...closed beta too....how can one ever judge the community unless the game is released?
Anyway i'd highly suggest DnD as its quite a solid F2P game.
MMO wish list:
-Changeable worlds -Solid non level based game -Sharks with lasers attached to their heads

I have to agree. The CB community is not something you want to gauge the gold release's community on. Of course they're more mature. They want the game to succeed and are bug testing more than they're looking for free time. If they see a bug, they report it rather than the whiny release players that go "that game haz too many bugs. it sucks im not playing and u shouldnt either"
GA is essentially in open beta right now (community-wise). those who will test in January and play it on release have already pre-ordered and are active on the forums. so far, the game seems to attract mature players who are looking for something new. most are tired of epeen stroking and the grind in other mmo's, which is why they've come.
bear in mind that if or when the game hits the mainstream, the epeen strokers and nerd ragers will roll in. mmo's will always attract people who cannot do much irl, so they roleplay that bigshot. same thing happened in EVE. initially it was a great, small community consisting of people passionate about making the game an enjoyable environment for others, but now it's full of dicks. at its core though, it's one of the best communities out there. so no matter what you pick, you just have to hope the core of the community has remained decent.
A lot of good information here for you to review and I thought I would add my perspective on a few F2P games that I enjoyed, at least for a period of time.
Perfect World International:
Pretty nice graphics
Indepth character customization
Flying mounts (you even get a free one at level 20 IIRC)
Free roam of the world and instance play
PvP guild vs guild on a war schedule via bids, also you can flag for openworld PvP
Cash Shop is available but completely not necessary, all CS items are tradeable in game
Class/Race/Sex has limitations
Runes of Magic:
Decent graphics, similar to WoW
Limited character customization
Land mounts right from level 1
Free roam of the world and some instance play
PvP via guild wars being declared, in a guild war, you are not safe if in a participating guild
Cash Shop is very necessary unless you want to spend weeks grinding tokens, CS items not tradeable in game
Dual Class system, so you can be two classes with one character
Those are just a few things about those two F2P games that stand out. I personally do not play either one anymore as I'm more of a P2P type of gamer.
Lord of the Rings Online might be what you are looking for. Graphics are reasonably nice, especially in DX10. There is some grind, but the quests make them more bearable and also some quests require a good dose of teamwork so the game has to be sociable to get them completed at the required level(s).
The Prancing Pony is somewhat more maturer than Goldshire. (A hell of a lot more, for now anyway).

You don't want to worry about leveling...but you also don't want to have to worry about stat placement...
See, you just eliminated every MMO on the market...
Well, technically FoM fits that bill but no PvE really last I checked.

DnD. I dont play anymore, but the f2p model seems ok.
Now back to PSU.
I think you can say crap on this forum.

The Aeria release was actually the European release.

Definitely would say Dungeon and Dragons Online I think the community is excellent, grouping is optional but it is a very group oriented game, and no "cutesy" graphics. I wrote a review too: http://www.mmorpg.com/discussion2.cfm/thread/263634/All-I-can-say-is-WOW-.html

Nevermind - it will work.

As many others have already said, I'd also recommend DDO.
It's heavily instanced, if that bothers you, but beyond that I think it covers just about everything you listed in your original post.
Hell hath no fury like an MMORPG player scorned.
Is there a team quests or fights in DDO?
