After a year or more off I signed back up for AC yesterday. I don' t know if anyone here plays on Thistledown or not, but if you do I am Laeoric there.

Level 62 sword/buffer whatever you wanna call it (been awhile since I played)

Unfortunately I am down to rank 6 from rank 8 so I gotta find all new gear for the most part. How much has the game changed? I have a blackfire atlan staff which was my greatest aheivement quest wise but I have some better weapons for actually using, swords mostly. And ofcourse I have Amuli GSA, stoneable and I have all the elemental stones.

I lost my house when I dropped out, is it still the same questing to get one again? I have to remember what all is needed, it used to be a dillo spine and some other things.

Any suggestions? I have DM but I think everyone gets that now anyways. I remember my template was flawless pre-craft skill patch for tinkering or whatever it was. I dunno if that still holds now, I have 3 skill credits so it tells me.

I also here AC is getting a grafix upgrade, is that true or just bad rumormill? What all are they doing to it if they are upgrading it?

Posting at AC Vault is a much better way to get help.

I actually don't play anymore but I'm pretty sure GSA is near worthless. Looted then crafted armor and weapons were best things when I last played.

I do know it's true AC is getting a graphics update. They are releasing an expansion pack early next year with a graphics update plus a new race, new landmass, new quests, new items, etc. The official AC site has a lot more about it, http://ac.turbinegames.com/.

GSA is more or less completely useless.  The only real armor that is worth much is low level workmanship with good base stats to tinker with various salvageable materials.  Even shards are about worthless.  Last time I checked in-game ( a few weeks ago) motes were the thing to have.  I am not sure why, but that's what I was told.

The char you describe will be pretty much broke with all the changes.  I just cancelled my AC account.  Once you hit about 80+ there isn't anything to do.  All the quests at that point are either too easy, or way too hard (as in need a large fellowship).  Only problem is, there isn't enough of a community left to get large enough groups together.  The last 2 weeks I played, I saw about 2 actual players and about 40 or so macroing/tradebot players.  I can't even remember the last time I even saw someone from my monarchy online (about 300-400 characters in monarchy).  Maybe if they cut down to maybe 2 or 3 worlds at most, I might consider rejoining.  Just not enough of a community in each world left.  It's almost like the NHL.  They have too many teams, which spreads the talent too thin, so you have a bunch of mediocre teams, rather than a core groups of strong teams.  AC isn't any different right now.

Not sure what world you were on Cold, but on SC plats are still the dominate trade currency.

Trade bots on any world. However I avoid the marketplace so I avoid the bots. I use VN to trade and sell so I still only deal with a live person :)

GSA worthless, that is true, low level workmanship with steel and other salvaged items seem the way to go.

At finally reaching my first char to 126 after 4 plus years of playing, I still find it fun. Then again, I am in a fairly active monarchy. Community can make a difference :)

    Good luck and welcome back.

I lost track of whats in value anymore.  Then again, I have never traded on the boards much.  I only dealt in-game.  And with the shortage of live people around it's hard to get a gauge of what is good.  Most bots I've seen as quite overpriced.  That or I'm just a miser... lol.

I was only ever on HG.  Plats aren't THE trading item there.  They are good, but it usually varies to the flavor of the month, for what's of value.  Shards used to be the biggest value item around for ages.  Then I took a 2 month leave from game and came back it was motes.  Shards were almost worthless, as GSA was pretty much useless.  I went from quite well off, to virtually broke.  I could barely give away the shards.  It was quite sad really.

I did find AC fun for a while lately too.  But I get bored very quickly of grinding out levels.  I play RPGs for the immersion factor.  I do enough boring things in real life, that I don't want to spend hours just getting xp.  It's quite possibly just me, but I use RPGs as almost escapism.  To forget about real life, and have fun living an alternate ego for a few hours with friends.

At this point its honestly seem'ing like everything I liked about the game they have pretty much trashed. I had alot of hard to get stuff and now I am coming back and its worthless? I may just let my sub lapse then. I didn't ever play AC because I wanted to go find tradeskillers to get my stuff, I played Ac because it was the most solo friendly MMORPG to ever exhist and I could go in and do my thing when I wasn't in the mood for grouping or trying to find tradecrafters.

If you are a lower level char (say sub-30) there are a lot of quests you can do on your own, as well as a lot of quests that you need to group with.  The higher level you get the thinner the soloing content gets, and becomes more group dependant.  Mid-level (approx 30-70ish) has some decent soloing quests, but as mentioned, more are group dependant.  High-level quests, I've found are almost 80-90% group dependant.  I've done all the solo-capable missions I can with my level 93 life mage and my 86 (I think) meleer.  I haven't found a good high-level solo quest since about 2 or 3 patches ago.  All they have added are the Burun quests (which I was promptly and repeatedly killed on trying to perform solo), and some renegade quests that have level 300ish baddies on (at least the one that I tried and was again swiftly and repeatedly killed).

It seems Turbine's response to everything is to just dump some higher dmg or higher AL items into the world.  I mean even level 7's now drop on monsters.  There is very little that is actually worth trying to attain anymore.  True, they did add in fellow buff spells (which can be nice), but not still not near good enough, and the problems still exist.

You can definately still level on  your own.

You also don't need any kind of crafters or traders for most things. If you choose to get tinked armor, weapons, etc you can, but  you do not have to.

As far as getting bars for crafted weapons, you will need to find a trade mule, or level one up. But again, these are not things you have to have, but they do make the game easier.

yes, but when I came back in I felt like everything I knew was invalid anymore. I also felt like I had entirely learn a game all over again. To me thats a bad job on turbines part. When I got in I didnt feel like relearning everything or fumbling around for aweeks til I started to get the swing of a game I thought I still knew.

I also so a lacking of people, I hate being in a semi empty MMO. So I never kept up the sub, I am playing EQ II now anyways and am very happy with it.

Here are the most widely demanded items: writs and writ items, salvage, loot keys (singularity, sturdy steel, marble, and granite), gems of stillness or dispel potions, and finally pyreals (trade notes or plats).

Some say that the lack of players makes the game not fun. I think the game is well designed to be fun even with nobody around.

Fadeus, your items aren't worthless. There's just better that you can work towards. Your items are definitely functional and sufficient for the types of monsters you should be fighting at your level.
