Missing the punchline

Ok I know some are probably going to call me a noob or claim I haven't played enough not to find such thnigs but here's the scoop: Basically my experiance so far in this game has been no end of random stupid quests of go here, go there, kill this this and this and come back.  The only best part so far was way at the begining when there were actual plot lines to follow and scenarios to take part in.  I'm almost level 25 and getting sick of doing quests.  This is why I gave up on EQ2, and I know its caled Everquest for a reason but why should LOTRO be like this? Where is the main content? where are places like Moria and Helms Deep?? I know Moria is now part of this game but I'm guessing I'm too low for it? Is there anything other than random quests for lowbies to actually do in this game? If not then I'm afraid I'll end up quitting way before gettnig to any of the good parts cus to be honest, endless pointless quests just sucks imo.

Moria is higher level content so you have quite some time before you would want to head to that area.  As for the quests, not sure what to tell you if they irritate you that much.  LotR has one of the best story lines I've seen in an mmorpg with the main quest chain (book quests) and by 25 you start to get into some of the dungeons the game has as well so if you don't find any of that material fun then maybe the game isn't for you.

It reads to me like you're either not into PvE content or you're burned out on it.  You've tried two of the best out there so unless you haven't given WoW a try you may want to try and find a game that focuses on PvP.

    1. For god's sake mmo gamers, enough with the analogies. They're unnecessary and your comparisons are terrible, dissimilar, and illogical.

You will get to moria once you are lvl 40+ - 50.

But to me it looks like lotro isn't for you. You would probably like Aion, WAR, or EVE better.

In Aion you will just want to do the 2 or 3 quests that give you some good XP each level and ignore the rest to focus on dungeon runs with your friends and pvp. Just beware of the huge grind in the later levels, if you like it that way its all good.

WAR has also improved a lot and is now a lot of fun to play.

And in EVE there's always a lot to do in such a big space sandbox.

Tried, tried and tried, none of them appeal to me.  LOTRO appeals to me cus well I love medieval and I love the story, watched all the movies, got all the books, heck I even live in Nottingham, the home place of Games Workshop HQ which is pretty much the birth place of LOTR, not that the writer comes from here but Games Workshop was insipired by Tolkien and are the ones who made it big.  Same went for WAR but to me its not really like Warhammer and I'm not really into competative PvP.  Besides, to me its not half as good reason as DAoC or SB battles had, you fought for your keep for a good reason other than exp boosts for your faction in that realm, you fought for the existance of your NPCs, your gear and income! Half the time WAR PvP is just Bleh.. to me, and the arenas are a joke imho.  As for EVE? well I'm not a huge fan of sci-fi but I gave it a try and tbh I don't like how it takes you about a week to have enough skills and credits to buy the ship you really wanted only for some pirate player to come along and tear it apart in a few seconds.  I know this is the whole point in EVE but that really isn't for me, especially when i takes so long to do so and I know ya think that in all that time one should have enough money to pull out another ship of the same calluber but its not really the point, especially for new players, that kind of thing just really puts some people off and it did put me off it.  Oh and to that other guy, I also tried WoW and was quite disapointed in that as a WarCraft fan in general, I don't think I need to bother going into detail as of why and tbh WoW is pretty much the mother of this kind of boringly pointless on going grind + quests combo.

To be honest I think you guys are missing the point in my cry out just as much as I was missing the point to this game.  I wanna know where the real fun stuff is, where the story is, where this game drives away from the usual grind and pointless quests that seem to have practically become the mold of every MMORPG since WoW.

you should be working on doing book 2 at your current level. As for story just keep at doing the epic quests and keep leveling up as the main part of the story is gonna start around 50. There is 14 books for the first Vol and we are at 9 in Vol 2. As of now you can get into Moria, but Helms Deep and all of Rohan has yet to be released. If the only reason your playing the game is for the story line. Try reading the quests that you are doing and calling pointless there is a story to each quest chain you do.

It is pointless to me when some dude wants 5 tusks or pelts or whatever for animal kill bounty or hides just so he can make him or yourself something made out of leather.  Sure if the item is a leather reward thats nice that you didn't collet the materials for nothing and how is this storyline? I didn't see Legolas or Frodo going around killnig 100+ bears and wolves and boars all over Bree-Land, did you? THAT is what I meant by pointless quests.  As for these "epic" quests and "books" I guess I'm yet to find them or maybe I should dig around for a guide or better yet buy an official guide book or something I donno.

You know LotRO is based upon fighting the darkness and, in book quests, more directly helping out the fellowship, right?

You aren't playing any of the LotR fellowship members.  If that is what you expected to do, to really follow their every footstep, then you need to reset your expectations.

Personally, I think the way they have done it is far better than it would have been have you played one of the fellowship heroes.

Yes I know ya helping, I'm not that dunce! But so far I haven't even helped, not met any of them, its just Bob Joe after another random Dave or John that I've never even heard of and aren't really that storylined or anything to do with LOTR story plot, and I know you'd all probably consider that exageration due to not actual names but they may as well not be.  Over a dozen NPC names aren't even in the story books, probably just some random LOTR based names pulled out of a hat.  I'm trying to find where all this "fellowship" and "storyline" stuff is but you guys are hardly helping giving me "you're missing the point/punchline" crap cus fact Is I know I'm missing it, what I'm asknig is, where the hell is it??  I appreciate the info on what there is in the game but I think I'm kinda gathering that now, some leads on how to go about finding it all might be nice too.

If you actually want to know where the storyline quests are/begin you can find that easily online.

    www.lotrolife.com/quests/book_1_walkthrough/

Doing those book quests alone won't level you enough though, so you'll have to grind/do random quests anyway.

Strange....I'm 22nd level and have met Strider and Gandalf.  I believe they are quest givers for the epic quest lines.

I think I remember meetnig Strider in Combe or something.. or Anchorhead whatever.  Gandalf on the other hand I don't recall and I haven't really found any epic quests in my journal though its overflowing with random quests that I seem to pick up from one village to the next, tis like and endless sea of em x.x  Anyways, thanks for that link I'll take a look and give it a shot, hopefully this will get me more into the game and actually enjoy it.

If you choose  a Dwarf, you meet Gandalf in 5 minutes. He kicks some Troll butt.

Hope you find the motivation you need to continue playing.

Yeah, you are missing things.  By your level I had already done quests for Strider (Aragorn) and Tom Bombadil.  There are a set of epic quests that you pick up, which is where you can actually meet with some of the famous people in the books.

By the way, I wish people would ask questions like yours more often in forums instead of just bashing the game because they don't understand it.   Kudos.

You can start doing Great Barrow too, the first instance in the game which is around level 25. If you are bored with quest you can complete deed to upgrade your character. Some are exploration, some are grinding, some are completing quests, etc. You can also craft, buy a house and decorate it. But LOTRO is full of quests, i always have too many quests and some become grey, but since i'm a huge quest fan,i do them all. So if you are bored with quests, you gotta find something to entertain you a bit, else you won't appreciate the game since it's a quests game.

This is exactly why I was asking where the main content was, I wanted something a little more enjoyable and meaningful.

I also forgot the Skimirsh system, its some kind of PVE ''Battleground'', it's like a mini instance with goal to complete, solo or with a group, you can start that at level 30, you get a mail and after you complete the chain quest that show you how it works. You can customize your soldier and decide which class he'll be. I'm not at end game yet ,im at level 44 but i'm enjoying the game a lot more than before, it took me some time to get into it but now i'm really having fun with it.

If you are looking for story, maybe you should go play a regular RPG like Mass Effect, Dragon Age, Kotor etc, tho I have to say I can't play single-player games anymore. If you got the time, gather up couple of friends, get vanguard soh and go do dungeons, that's what I did when I thought mmorpg's had nothing to offer anymore, atleast for a while. Stopped playing VG after grouping everyday for around 2 weeks from 15 to 38 where my random grouping friends stopped playing. Later I went back to WoW, just had to get the PvP xperience back.

Well I've found the book quests which is exactly what I was looking for, thanks guys for your help :D And I know I'll probably get flamed for this but I think it needs to be said, to those of you who'd rather discourage people from playing and encourage them to play something else rather help them see what this game has to offer, please take your advice elsewhere, some of us would rather find the fruits this game bares rather than give up so soon.  Personally I think people who do that are just desperate people from other games looknig to increase their numbers so they look around for people who are dissapointed and clueless on other games and divert them to the game that they are playing instead.  Once again I thank those who have helped me realise the true parts of this game that makes it more unique and perhaps better than most other MMORPGs to date.

I would imagine they probably thought you were referring to the main quest line as well since unless something has changed or you deleted it you start out with the Prologue Book from the word 'go' and it eventually sends you to where Book 1 starts and so on.  Which in turn leads you to where the dungeon/group instances available in the game are located.

Anyways, grats on finding the book quests and hope you enjoy them.

This has got to be one of the first times I saw a thread on such a broad important topic (questing/ storyline) start out the way it did with the OP keeping an open mind and then actually ending on a positive note. I think this thread should be stickied lol.

I agree...lol.  I was beginning to think the OP was a troll when he mentioned Anchorhead ( a clear Star Wars reference.) Cheers to the OP then.
