Just wondering...
I'm not, as Klingons are a race focused on combat and dominance of other species I'm fairly happy. I'd like to see some PvE content, attacking Federation facilities run by NPCs but I'll wait and see before I make my full judgement. As I'm a dier hard trekkie I plan on playing both factions (and probably Romulan too when they're release as a playable race in an expansion)
Comments
It doesn't bother me. While I'd like to see a little more PvE eventually, I think that if they do it right, having a much greater emphasis on PvP for the Klingons might help create differing player cultures within the game that could foster a more real animosity between the two.
Personally, I'll be playing Klingon.
Hell hath no fury like an MMORPG player scorned.
tbh i want factions/races (whatever you want to call it).
Federation, Klingons, Romulans. If Cryptic want us to be able to level via PvP (and i dont see why not) then make it so they can all level via PvP. One thing they really should do is have equal PvE content for all 3 as it caters to a wider audience than PvP and gives the game a little more freedom.
I am more than willing to wait for an expansion (or two) to get those features but they really should be added.
MMO wish list:
-Changeable worlds
-Solid non level based game
-Sharks with lasers attached to their heads
Not upset at all, I actually believe it goes better with star trek lore to be honest. That being said its going to make it hard to choose between federation and klingon. I want to explore, and do quests/what not as federation. But i'd also like to go hardcore pvp as klingon.
At this point, the camel's back is already broken, so one more straw really doesn't do anymore damage.

Klingons aren't hardcore PvP. They just have nothing except PvP. There is a difference. A Federation player can PvP just the same. It really is just a halfassed PR excuse, and I expect they'll eventually give Klingons their full PvE experience when time permits.
Pretty much. This should have been the basis if they were going to make a Startrek wargame. A 3-way (DAoC style) RvR game conquest style. Taking space, planets, moons, etc for resources and strategic value. On top of the PvP they could have even put in some sort of PvE questing system that contributed to it w/out making PvEers directly fight their enemy.
I would love to play that type of combat Startrek game, Romulans vs Federation vs Klingons.
When they chose to make this a 95% combat game, then they really needed to step up the scope of the game instead of just making pointless battleground/scenarios
They have a whole faction thats PvP based... and all that consists of is pointless battlegrounds. It's pretty awful planning.
First off there will be some PVE content, just not anywhere as much as the Federation Side will have. Secondly, I actually prefer it this way. I find having all factions or races include an equal amount of balanced content extremely bland and boring.
I know this wasn't done by design, but I think it spices things up quite a bit. I mean imagine if they decided to include Borg as a playable race. Most anyone would agree that including an equal amount of PvP and PvE content for the borg race with Borg NPCs giving Quests/Episodes, handing out loot, and selling equipment and other items would be just plain terrible. However no one would complain about lack of equal content if they included a Borg faction you could unlock as an end-game option that allowed for no customization(except which borg race you were), no personal ship or items, and just allowed you to go on solo PVE mission where you attacked starbases or colonies and killed or assimilated NPCs alongside other Borg NPCs with the only multi-player content being maybe some pvp instance combat.
I see the Klingon Race as the same thing. In fact, if they eventually include Romulans or Cardassians I would very much like to see them be created as factions with entirely unique gameplay. So instead of heavy-pvp like the Klingons or lots of PVE content like the Federation the Romulans could have some sort of....maybe Science/Crafting related progression system and Cardassians could have an Empire-building type of gameplay with some RTS content thrown in. In other words, I like my MMO races/factions like I like my MMO Classes: Mostly-Entirely Unique.
I think it's a bad idea totally. Many players are going to want to play Klingon for the same reason they play Human, Vulcan, and the like. They want to play to be immersed in the Star Trek universe. How can you be immersed if your class is limited to mainly PvP? Klingon phasers don't work on anything but other player ships??
Limiting a class to PvP while the other 75% of the gameworld gets PvP and PvE is a very STUPID idea and it will most likely bite them in the rear if they don't fix it fast.
I'm all for giving Klingons more PvP freedom due to their very nature, but to whomever came up with the *insertsarcasmhere* brilliant *end sarcasm* idea to restrict Klingons to mainly PvP needs to be removed from the company. End of story.
You realize Klingon's are exactly like the Federation, minus PvE content? The only difference is they can fight each-other as well. The play experience isn't different at all, you just lack options. The only real difference is starship/weapon design and configurations.
BTW, comparing the Klingons to the Borg is like comparing cats to dogs. If you want to compare them to something, compare them to a race like the Romulans.. Then ask the same question, and you can pretty much guarentee that most players would want a full fledged PvE & PvP Romulan faction to play.
It doesn't bother me. It's nice to have Klingons included at all. If the game is successful and Klingon players are numerous and vocal, I'm sure Cryptic will add PvE Klingon content in time. If not, people will just play Federation which is what I plan to do anyway.
I understand if the players who were looking forward to a complete Klingon experience are upset though.
I would like to see a fully implemented Klingon race as well as the Romulans.
In that way there are 3 races to choose from. And we will not see what happened in WAR happen here, dont these people learn from other's mistakes?
Ideally more races like the Dominion and Borg. Imagine how anticipated the game would be if they delayed it for 3 to 4 months and implemented all these races as it should be, but instead we get one, one faction, meh....................
How long will it take to produce content for these other races? But the choice is to release anyway, it is not as if STOL has been in development for so long anyway, so another couple of months will not overly harm it.
Bottom line is that these MMO company's don't seems to know what the market is like. Or they aim for the quick buck over the long term investment. Getting it right on release will ensure a product that will be around for a long time (see WoW).
Rushing out content will end up in fail fail fail, see VG, WAR, even AoC. I guess they will never learn how to release a fully fledged game.
Its really sad that this genre has to suffer in this manner, maybe in 10 years time we will see all games released with sufficent content to call themselves MMOs.
Cryptic are making this decison with their eyes wide open, cutting corners is not the way to succesffuly make an MMO, ask Blizzard they know.
This decision and the poll here prove you are losing 25% of your sales off the bat.
WAKE UP CRYPTIC!
This poll in no way means that Crytic will loses 25% of their sales of STO as a result of this. As the poll only comprises less then 100 people it is satistically useless. Just because aprox. 20 people are angered enough to not get STO it does not logical follow that this ratio would be true for the general public, and as such it seems highly unlikely that Crypric will care .
Let it grow... let it grow lt it grow...
Statistics are wonderous things. I am bracing for impact for this release the caterwauling has the opportunity to be HUGE
Incidently 1000 is the break point before news people start quoting it as truth.. all surveys are suspect by nature.
Pretty much my sentiments. It's even more meaningless when you consider that the majority of that 25% is most likely the same 25% that have been bashing this game for months. I highly doubt the Klingons would have made any difference. I also hihgly doubt that Cryptic nor any other major developer visits this website. But even if I were to care, I still see a large majority still playing this game so I fail to see how this poll proves anything. You'll never find a poll where 100 percent agree with anything.

I personally not happy that there arent enough Empires that I can choose to play or run mission for. Where are the Ferengi? Cardassians? Romulans? Dominion? I like the Federation dont get me wrong. I just wanted to see more variety is all.
(AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH teaches Worf how to dance)
All my opinions are just that..opinions. If you like my opinions..coolness.If you dont like my opinion....I really dont care.
Playing: ESO, WOT, Smite, and Marvel Heroes
I wouldn't say upset but its another ding against the game indicating it'll be a shallower experience than I'd hope for.
How is there to be PvP? Most of the federation and the klingon's are at peace. Even the Romulans and Cardacian's have at least no agression pacts even if not in writing. Rogue captains from any race would be hunted by everyone, even their own governments. This does not inspire me to play the game at all if they are throwing Lore to the wolves.
Klingons aren't hardcore PvP. They just have nothing except PvP. There is a difference. A Federation player can PvP just the same. It really is just a halfassed PR excuse, and I expect they'll eventually give Klingons their full PvE experience when time permits.
One of the failings of Warhammer Online was having too much PvE content in what was supposed to be primarily a PvP game. With so many players lapping up the PvE content it wasn't a lot of fun to be logged in all day waiting for PvP. I think this may be a genius design decision in STO, and one that future PvEvP games will incorporate. Here you have the choice of playing a side that has no choice but to seek out and PvP. That could provide PvP On Demand for everyone. Win win.

The problem with War was that PvP and PvE were all mixed up in a single bag basically. STO is on the opposite end of the spectrum. If you go Klingon you basically said I don't want to PvE. Fed's get PvP and PvE, rolling Klingon just states you wish to be shafted lol.
Bottom line is a game should cater more to an individuals playstyle. If I wanted to do nothing but PvP, I should be able to and still advance my toon at a reasonable pace. If I want to PvE, I should be able to and still advance my toon at a reasonable pace. If I want a mixed bag of PvP and PvE I should have that as an option as well and still be able to advance my toon at a reasonable pace. I should have w/e option I want at any given time. This would work but... rolling Klingon and gaining nothing while losing the PvE side of the game is asinine.
Thats like saying... if you pick race A you can accel at both Magic and Melee. If you pick race B you have the same magic potential but can't use melee at all. Which do you want? The only difference is one can use both melee and magic and the other can only use magic.
In the end it means that Klingons unlike Feds are completely reliant on others for there content.
This doesn't bother me at all.
In fact, all the recent leaked vids and interviews have made me want to play klingon rather than fed. This game is going to rock.

I'd hate to jump into your discussion here but PVP gives better XP bonuses than PVE. As a Klingon you can still do PVE missions but the faction is just PVP oriented. The Klingon ships are tougher and they can cloak. Sounds like they have a leg up on the Feds.
Who in their right mind only plays one faction in an MMO anyway?

Who in their right mind only plays one faction in an MMO anyway?
Personally I prefer sticking to one faction. I don't like bouncing around between MMO's and I don't like bouncing around between factions in them lol. I find an MMO I like I stick with it, I find a faction I like I stick with it. It's nice to work towards something and try to help your faction achieve something big. It's kind of the point in a RvR PvP setup. I'm blah so your my enemy.
If STO is even going to attempt to be a success with the whole Fed vs. Klingon thing they are going to pretty much have to limit one faction per server, like every other MMO has done with very few exceptions lol. And that would be another contributing factor. I like sticking with one server after I have found one I like. Help build the community there.
But I'm a very old school UO player, so this is the kind of thing I started off with. Red vs. Blue, large emphasis on community and a game that gave you some symblance of a vested interest.
Now you are correct about Klingons being tougher, the problem here is that it won't last. It can't lol, an obvious imbalance like that will be on the chopping block fast. The faster xp gain than the feds in PvP won't last either because many want to be feds and a lot of those want to PvP more than PvE because it's Klingons vs. the feds so this will be on the chopping block very soon as well and both of those are a garuntee lol. If they don't happen by some chance Cryptic is in for a QQ storm the likes of which they have never faced before lol. And with Klingons actually being very light on the PvE content compaired to the feds with those changes a pretty much garuntee, that leaves 2 factions. One with both PvP and PvE content and the other with PvP and very little PvE content which is what my analogy was reffering to.

Trust me there is no way they are as 'tough' as the Federation ...I can guarantee you though that if there is a non-level restricted place for people to que and fight.. that there are according to the Ships of the Line Page Bird of Prey mk1 to mk5 on the klingon side..
And that will lead to OMG I CAN'T do anything to this Bird of Prey its OP'd post from insipid unobservant players.

I have a promotional 6 month sub for CO. It's a bad game, but the sub offer came with some decent perks. What this has to do with STO I have no idea, but I felt like sharring.
Yes the Klingon side is a bit tough, but that will change eventually and I can garuntee that lol.
