I have been in the EU CBT2 for a few days and I am already seeing things that I don't like one bit, first ones related to the item mall. Seen it myself or did read in the zone chat:
- First and most important..... you need a freaking megaphone to talk in the world channel! And where to get it? Yeah spend real money on it. No thanks. This is the most retarded thing with the item mall, as it's a way of isolating players that don't want to pay to an specific zone, a thing that doesn't make any sense if you want a open world and ruins it for me. And not everyone wants to join a guild ( since it's the only way to speak with the others no matter the distance, that or whisper all day ).
- You want to respec your skill or talent points because you made a mistake or want to improve your build? Go to the Item Mall and buy a water of wathever. Either that or grind mobs for lots of days to find that water. Yeah right....
- The bag you have since you begin is too small for the amount of things you find. You want a bigger one? Buy it with €. That or grind mobs endlessly to find the materials needed for a quest reward.
- If you find a rare steel chest from a mob ( chests grant you random equipment pieces ) and want to open it..... go buy a key from the IM. To open iron chests you don't need that..... Why not make the keys craftable or expensive in-game?
- Potions that increase HP/Mana for 60% ( if i did read it well ). Considering the large amounts of hp and mana you can get in this game, it seems that those that buy the potions will get a BIG advantadge over non-paying players.
These are the things i already know, who knows what will be in the IM in the future..... having read "nice" things about gpotato and their IM's makes me fear the worst.
Other things that I didn't like one bit are the many many bugs, crappy animations / movements for the most part and broken skills like crusader's condemnation. Doesn't make any sense considering the amount of millions they say they spent on the game. They have spent millions and they cannot test these simple things having a little server built for tests?
Spending real money on virtual items is out of the question for me. I would gladly paid a retail copy of the game ( in case i liked the Open Beta ). But no sir, they have to go the crappy way.
I have loved this game series, but I'm not gona swallow this crap so bye bye. Thanks Nival for ruining the game.
I know I'm not making things change with this, my main point is alerting other players that hate IM-ruined games. That and just posting my opinion, which is the point of a forum right?

Allods is F2P game. What did you expect?
well the problem is not the item mall. The problem is you dont like item mall based games. In the past I used to think that they were cool games, cose of the free to play. When I started to play seriusly RoM I found my self thinking on how much money this or that did cost me. Yeah, paying for virtual items can really ruin your gameplay. It's a pity for some potential players but some people dont care about this aspect at all and can really enjoy a game with item mall. I feel sorry for you, you find a game you like and then you find that you dont like the "pricing" of the game.
Anyway I plan on trying it on release, just to have it installed and play from time to time.
Good luck finding your game.
Needing a megaphone to talk in the world channel irritated me a bit when I started RoM, then I figured it kept the spam to a minimum.
Havent loaded up CB yet (Waiting for CB3), but, hopefully it has the option like RoM where you can trade gold for CS stuff and vice versa.
The other things you mention are fairly similar to RoM too, it seems the way the F2P is going..I dont mind paying for a reset of skills etc, provided it works out I spend equal, or less each month than I would on a P2P
The only downside I find in F2P is that the first month I splurge a lot (Faster mounts for each char...a must have...then the annoyance of not being able to send them to my other chars = when I delete a char, I waste that cash) I also do a big splurge on each character I create, and being a serial altaholic, this can get pricey. (running at 50 WoW chars now, and have been maxed on every game I play)
The difference in allods you can get those items as a drop (the stat reset even the bag expansion items) but the OP is whining because it's hard? wait a few weeks/months and you will see people selling them in AH if there's one.
I don't know what's all the fuss it's still in closed beta they will wipe everything anyway.
Yes, an item mall can ruin a game.
BUT you can get everything in game without spending money. Many players will sell cash shop items after a few weeks, so if you work hard and earn enough money in the game, you can buy it. One microphone for world channel and a bigger bag should be affordable after a bit. Who needs to buy skill reset if you plan ahead wisely?
Though I can understand if the item mall is not your kind of thing, but complaining about it doesn't help.
How else would you like them to make money so they can keep the servers up? Seriously, the complaints you have are not that big of an issue. At least they are not selling pieces of top end gear...yet :P
Companies choose F2P system because they think they can get MORE money that way...not because they are so goodhearted and want to allow everyone to play. Lets say u pay 15$ per month for a P2P MMO...now spend this amount of money for the item mall in Allods, and u will be just fine.
Nah, don't need to worry about me, it's just a game. I move along and that's it. I have plenty of other games to enjoy also.
To the others, I know well that I'm not going to change anything, as I said in the post I was just giving my opinion in hopes it would be useful for someone. I went a bit overboard because it's part of the allods series that I've been a fan of for years. If you guys like that type of game kudos to you. Have fun with it!
Welcome to the world of F2P.
Where themepark games try to hide that they are copying WOW, games like Mortal Online and Darkfall make no attempt to hide their inspiration

The problem is you neglected to acknowledge that you actually can get all of those items as drops in game.
Also you said "Why not make the keys craftable or expensive in-game?". That will already happen, some will use the item mall and sale the items they buy for in game currency. They will generally be expensive in game, but they will be purchasable in game. Which is exactly what you asked for.
The game has some bugs, it's Closed beta... thats expected. However you made an attempt to blow it out of porportion. It has no more or less bugs in CB than you would or could expect from any other MMO in CB. Be glad it isn't MO's beta lol, far buggier than allods and MO is a pay to play lol. Even worse this could be on par with Alganon which has launched ... it's best we don't go there as there are not words to describe how bad that game is.
The megaphone complaint is asinine. You will have zone chat, guild chat, team chat, all the normal chats you would find in any other MMO and they are free to use. There is a special channel that lets you speak to EVERYONE in the game. I personally have no interest in doing so myself lol. Haven't ever needed to do so in any other MMO, can't imagine why I would need to do so in Allods.
The game looks and plays very good. There are some hiccups here and there just as you would find in any other closed beta. Closed Beta 3 is comming and I imagine much will be fixed when it starts. Be glad this is a free to play though as it seems pay to plays are just as bad in CB and in many case much worse than Allods is with its few bugs here and there. Not only are most Pay to Play's in the same boat or far worse but the general idea now days seems to have you pay to beta the pay to plays.
I am not saying you are not entitled to your opinion, but it would help if your opinion was based off of what is and not what you think it may be. Some of what you complained about is par for the course in all MMO's, free to play or pay to play. Some of it such as the item mall, you were just plain wrong about because the items DO drop in game. If you do not get them as drops in game you can still buy them from others that will buy them off of the item mall just like you can in every other free to play. And again your complaint about the Megaphone did not make a lot of sense because it only applies to global chat which most MMO's do not even have.
Hopefully this has been some help to you and maybe you can take an actual look at Allods this time and base your opinion off of what is and not what conclusions you feel the need to jump to.
Well, the latest news is that AstrumNival (the publisher of Allods in Russia) has also started selling rubies (the ones that grant skill points) for cash. Or, more precisely, they added chests that have a chance to drop a quest that leads to getting a ruby. Theoretically, you can get 5 extra rubies, but there are heavy diminishing returns, so actually most people have been able to get just 1 or 2.
Theoretically, yes. Theoretically, you can also win the lottery for $1 million IRL.Also, max HP/mana buff from CS consumables is now +80%, not +60%.
MMORPG genre is dead. Long live MMOCS (Massively Multiplayer Online Cash Shop).
If you don't like the drop rate, then complain about that. You have a chance to get them as drops, thats not theory that is indeed fact. I never said you were garunteed to get them, I said you CAN. Now, sure theoretically you could win the lottery and theoretically you could get Jagged-Ear-Jack's drop in FFXI, You could theoretically get that Epic drop in WoW that you need, you could in theory proc a your item for expert rank in your given craft in Aion.
Every MMO has things that are left up to chance. The plus side here is that others can buy that stuff and sell it in game.
So basically there are 3 ways for you to get it. Hope it drops, Buy it in game from others or Buy it from the item mall. So basically the OP was complaining about having more legit ways to aquire items such as this in game.
I mean the whole respec item lol, Cryptic made it cost an ungodly amount of currency to respec your toon and then offered a respec of there item mall. This is Champions Online I am talking about, a Pay to Play.
So you will have to forgive me for not seeing anything new or problematic here and none of this changes the fact that the OP still did not state the fact that these items -> can <- be gotten in game as drops.
So no need for long-winded posts stating the obvious. I don't mean these items never drop. I just mean: don't hold your breath.

lol no worries, actually crafting in another game at the moment and looking for a way to kill time lol. MMO's have such a hard time making crafting remotely fun
I have no problem with item malls in F2P mmos because it allows them to compete quality-wise with P2P mmos.

Lol ya i agree,F2P games are in themselves a joke, not worth supporting at all.If you truly offer a free to play game, then release ALL the content you are selling in the item mall for free.
I played ALLODS and it was quite ridiculous,i never saw a game move at such a snails pace at such a low level as that game. This coming from someone who played FFXi for years,so i knew from the outset how they were designing the game to cater big time to Item Mall.
Megaphone was also used in ROM[Runes of Magic]if you want to see the worst case of item mall abuse and a game that is the furthest from F2P then look at Rom.
The truth is that these games are VERY shallow for game play,i do not recommend supporting any F2P game period. It make take you people a lot of years to figure it out,but i am warning you now, they are evil incarnate.
As for ALLODS,the graphics are so cheap ,they were either designing a super cheap game or they were making it to work on a Nintendo game boy advance, the graphics are that low end.
ALLODS=shallow game play, low end graphics,Item Mall ...3 strikes your out,no reason to play it what so ever.
Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.
I really dont feel like reading your wall of text but, most f2p mmorpgs use item shop for stuff like megaphone etc.You must be a rookie here.Companies who put out free games need to make money somehow to cover server cost end of discussion. If that means selling mounts, megaphone for money thats what they do get over it.
People have different tastses for games.Everyone should atleast try the game before judging unless the reviews are really bad.For example I probably tryed every f2p and some p2p mmorpgs but till this day my favorite was maplestory.I dont know if i why but it stiill is although i havent played it in like 4 years.
I see here people saying allods has low end graphics? crappy animations?? wtf am i blind?? he animations are awsome, the graphics are mutch better then wow...
Eh since P2P MMOs are doing this I dotn understand why it upsets people that a F2P is. The only thing i dont like from the list is potions that increase HP/mana thou...
If WoW = The Beatles
and WAR = Led Zeppelin
Then LotrO = Pink Floyd
"Thank you for ruining the cinema for demanding me to pay for tickets!"
Free to Play is basically the same as "extended free trial". You get to play some parts of the game, not others. Want more? Pay.
Let's play Fallen Earth (blind, 300 episodes)
Let's play Guild Wars 2 (blind, 45 episodes)
The devs most get their money from somewhere, even a game that is made by fans for free would still needs some kind of income.
There are a few ways: P2P, B2P and F2P are the three we see. You could of course also use banners or product placing, that would work as well. It is even possible that a true low budget game could work on donations but they must get money from somewhere.
P2P games are the ones that must be really good or they will die (some games like DFO got most of their budget from EU which made it possible for them to run the game with fewer players from the start, having comparably small loans from the start is a great advantage).
How do you think this game should get it's money? Is it good enough to be P2P?
I don't have enough experience with the game so far to give a fair comment, but it is very polished, good graphics, -decent- quest stories (although there is a built in quest helper which may or may not be a good thing, but it is very stylish at least) apparently you can buy back things from the vendors that other players sell to it, blah blah blah. If things play out well for PvP, astral ships, raids/dungeons I think it definitely might be good enough for P2P.. the only thing I was upset about was that after the awesome beginner tutorial where you gain 4 levels in what 10 minutes? You hit a brick wall so to speak, and it takes a while to get levels after that. Another nice thing is grinding is discouraged, and you gain the bulk of your EXP from quests, and you can get EXP from mobs, but it is dependent on fatigue or whatever.
Anyway I'm really excited for tomorrow morning ^.^ CB3 with 500 new quests, PvP for the first time, new territories and instances, more talent points, woot woot!
