What I was thinking here is to try and brainstorm with a couple good people to make our own MMORPG. It'd have to be something original, breaking the borders of the traditional RPG's out there.
I'm not asking for some uber, high-quality programmers and graphic developers here, just something we could make as more of a playground for ideas, then possibly submit to people who can REALLY make it into a game.
Anyone interested?

i cant even count how many times ive seen some amatures try and make a game... only 1 out of a 100 make it out of beta... and even worse 1 out of 10000 make a profit at all...
my advice is to not even head in that direction... if you have talent and really want to help make a mmorpg.... get hired by a company... otherwise its all in vain
Ok...
HOw about i help ya out we can work togheter and get a contract haha :-D IM me

Dude does it hurt anything for amatures to try to brainstorm and make a game? Geez your most likely correct that the game will never see the light of day but what if Thomas Edison wouldve taken that kind of advice and waited for a big company to let him do all of his experiments? I say go for it guys aat the very least it could be something good to put on a resume posibly.
but he was one of the very few to try...
there werent thousands of other people trying and racing to invent the lightbulb or whatever...
its a competitive world.... people dont want to pay money for a game that has no future... just leave it to people who are experienced and that learn how to do these things... and help games that are bad become better...
You need to get it.
Anyone can come up with awesome ideas, it takes a bit of time, but it can be done by almost everyone.
The problem is getting a developer/game designer/modeler etc. all that crap to even be able to implement that idea. Let alone make it perfect to every detail of your idea.
Takin a Visual C++ programming course right now The script is mine
I'd just need a graphics designer, as well as someone who can meld script and artwork (not there yet myself)
Anybody interested? Again, my AIM sn is exodus denial, although I won't be on tonight I'll be on tomorrow a lot.
I don't think thats entirly true, good ideas make beta/a good invester to follow up the development to make the game what it can be. Making a game is not easy I should know I soon will be going to learn game development and design. I would gladly help if I knew the expertise well enough.
Soon my friend, soon

I think 1 out of 100 is too low of a guesstimate. I'd say like MAYBE 1 out of 1000 make it to Beta. Also, I think a post like this "Let's make a MMORPG" crops up almost once a month.
Maybe post your concept in the MMORPG Concepts board in the Developer's Corner and let people have a stab at playing devil's advocate to see if your idea can handle a first pass overview of constuctive criticism.
Don't forget to make em sign an NDA, they could pinch your idea. I remember a story of the guy who invented the coat hanger, showed it to some of his 'friends' in the factory he was working at and one of them patented it and the guy never got any money, whereas the one who patented it became very very rich. True story!
If you don't have a thick enough skin to ignore those who will doubt your efforts then you will never have enough strength of will and determination to build a complex application, let alone a MMOG.

I say go for it!
Don't let the people who want to stop creativity keep you from trying. Heck, that's how people learn. Make a game if it makes you happy, and if it doesn't work, then refine or try a different direction.
If you do make something worthwhile, guard it and protect it so someone else doesn't steal it.
we dont want to stop creativity... we are just more experienced with this sort of thing... we know better and are a bit wiser(wiser? doesnt seem spelled right?) for not following a slim chance...
i would love to see one recent mmorpg thats sucessfull and good that is made by kids/inexperienced people...
to be honest im not sure if i have seen one high-medium quality mmorpg made by people not in a company...
