Ok, I bought the game off the shelf the day it was in stores (worked in a software store at the time
) and the launch was so horrible I left after my 30 days was up. Yes, this was years ago. I just happened to think of the game tonight and wanted to know if it was worth a second look. I mean i haven't looked to see if there were any expansions or anything, but I know that what was promised was not what was delivered. I had just gotten cable but the lag was still horrific, I played almost nothing but a pilot and hafl the time i just crashed into something as i lagged. I know they must have that fixed now, but do they have boats like they said they would? or is it just paying to play something akin to battlefield vietnam with a few planes and tanks? I'm really bored with ultima online and am looking to get back into something like this. I live for FPS games, and I'm a huge WWII buff. I still hear a lot of complaining about things, and just want to know "Is it really worth it?" I can only afford to play one online game, so switching is a bit of a big deal. Any replies, either for or against are appreciated.

We have everything and more
The game play drasticly changed for the better but it would be too long to explain
For the units we have:(just some new ones)
- Light Machine Gunner
- Anti-tank Rifle
- Rifle grenades
- PzIVG, StugIIIG
- Pak38, 6 pounder and 57mm anti-tank gun
- Bofors anti-aircraft gun
- Sherman, Stuart, Crusader III
- Spit9, FW190, P38, Bf109F, Bell
- Destroyers (Zerstörer 34), Transport ships, Transport planes (Junkers Ju52), Paratroopers
And it was only the half of what we have now
That's actually really great to hear, I did enjoy the game despite the issues, and I'm glad people do still play it. I still tell my gf about my days with the luftwaffe shooting down spitfires hehe. I can't help but forget it's been years since I played it last (Nov 8th 2001 i looked it up) so I know it's been fixed but it doesn't seem to sink in. Is there a nice balance of player classes or does everyone try to be a pilot or tanker still? Also, if you don't mind me asking, can you bail out of your aircraft now and become a foot soldier? I've been reading a little on it since I posted but it's difficult to really research things on the site now.
You cant bail out yet, and youll never bail out to be an infantryman (not very realistic). The first step in bailing (the paratrooper) is already in game. There are some things still missing but its still the best war sim out there imo.
And the best is yet to come.
Also, not only is there a ground war where infantry/armor capture towns and move the front line, there is also an air war.
All three countries have "Research, Development and Production" factories. These factories generate RDP points per say. The high commands for either country then allocate these points to either increase/decrease current production numbers for current equipment or they can cash them in to get a new better peice of equipment (for example Spit mk5 or Panzer 3H).
Think of a RTS game where you have a build tree, you need to research a specific thing to be able to produce/build a better unit. Very similar concept here, only that the players from opposing side can lauch bomber attacks at these factories and damage them. Damaged factories generate less points per hour. There for there is a need to fly bomber raids and a need to protect factories in the form of air patrols.
This creates situations where one side will have a much better unit say a tank compared to the other. This difference has a profound effect in the ground war and taking of cities. A couple of campaigns ago, the allies won easily because a large group of allied players did nothing but bomb the german factories to rubble.

See, it sounds to me like they've added the depth and strategy I expected, I don't have my disc anymore but I saw I could download the game, and I still remember my old acct info and checked, they have me in the system still. I think I'm going to have a serious chat with my wallet about getting back into this.
I would like to hear some of the big issues though. Not the "oh the axis tanks are too powerful" issues, but the random crash to desktop kind if there are any.
Yes there are still crash to desktops for some, I very rarely get them though. Sometimes there can also be some lag but it never stops me from playing and with mobile spawns and paras, alot more action has resulted.
The game changed a lot since nov 2001!
You won't recognize it any more! They updated and reworked almost everything and added a lot of new features and new graphics! There are new capture rules now so no more opel rushes behind the frontline!
For me the game runs very stable!
If You have still Your account data just resubscribe for a month to see whats all changed now!
Download the latest full version from the website, don't install from disk! Check in offline mode all the new vehicles, You can do that also offline without a subscription!
But You need a better computer now than back in 2001! Need a directX 8 capable video card, geforce3 with 64 MB or better and 512MB RAM or better. Most play with 1 gig Ram as the game is very RAM hungry!

Life is too short to play bad games.
There are plenty of people playing. I just went on a 30 man paratroop mission and I watched as me and 50 others stormed Veurne. Once it makes a retail release [BB] the game will be flooded and the new desert battlefields will be welcomed with open arms.
