I think DAoC perfected RvR.

It's long long dead due to a variety of horrible developer decisions, so, sorry, you can't :/

Oh, the fond memories I have of DAoC.

In my mind it still is the best PvP like system out there. If anyone would ever do a DAoC 2, I'd sign up in a heartbeat.

In my mind they had things figured out pretty well in that game. The balance between Pvp and PvE was spot on. The mechanism of the relics, keeps and Darkfalls gave great incentives to go RvR. Of course, until the first expansion came out and the botters were rampant. That was basically the start of the downfall of the game.

But really, a DAoC 2 would be a dream come true. Best game ever in its early days.

How many Realms does Daoc have?if it does not have at least a realm per each race and that would be at least 6 minimum, then it loses right out of the gate.
When they have RvR combat are the maps designed around the combat system?Or is just an ordinary PVE world and they throw PVP into it?
This is just two simple questions that i know EVERY single PVP  RPG game has not come even remotely close to doing right.
There is a lot more goes into than that of course, like respecting each players wishes.by that i mean if someone wants to partake in something other than PVP can they?Or are they bothered by PVP players left and right? Is there any content outside of PVP and RvR,i mean there needs to be a breathing living game.
If Daoc can master just those few things i mentioned, they they have truly done something ,none of the other inept developers can do,except i know what the answer already is...

Damn dude, you leave the most critically negative comments wherever you go...

What the hell kind of reasoning is this?

If there's not 6 realms this game isn't worth playing???!!! Who decided that? lmao

Keep in mine this game is many years old, and just because you see the glass half empty doesn't mean that everyone else does.  If you found a good pvp group, this game was so much fun!  I guarantee you the mmorpg world wouldn't be as advanced if Mythic had not made DAoC!

Have to agree, theres a lot about the game that made it a lot of fun. it definitely wasnt a solo game either.. but i dont remember ever having problems grouping with people, admittedly there seemed to be a heavy RP element, but... somehow it did fit in with the game a lot better than quite a few of the games i've played since...  DAOC 2..  .. well we can hope...

I would buy DAoC2 in a heartbeat, but only if they kept it true to the original. No over instancing(none at all I hope), no /level 20, proper balance between RvR/crafting/and raiding (meaning no mandatory raids like ToA), no floating icons over NPC heads talking about quests, quests being there for story and sometimes a reward, and not the main way of leveling, tasks giving decent experience, grouping or fighting in the battlegrounds being the fastest way to level, and RvR can stay the way it was!

I am hoping that Dust 514 turns out to be something similar to Planetside. It'll probably be just a regular FPS but one can hope.

Well I'd try it if it wasn't a console only FPS.  Really not sure whether I'll try it, if it means shackling myself with a console controller as an input device.  It's a significant reduction in fun to have to fight inferior controls.

I only played DOAC the first 6 months and RvR was a boring repetitive and rather pointless exercise.  WInning one night meant nothing the next day, because whatever you fought for was usually gone.  3am raids trivialized everything.  Classes had barely enough abilities to fill 6 or 7 slots, much less a whole tool bar.  Armsman had 2 useful skills and none of them did anything in PvP.  Exploits galore.  Unbalanced classes galore.  Overpowered abilities.  A complete and total mess.  It might've gotten better later, but basically it was still ultimately pointless because you never really won anything.  Eventually, Mythic actually gave people RAs and points to fight for, but then, you were just grinding for points.  Radar hacks...zergfest...cheats really made playing pointless.  Why play if you knew the other guys were cheating and EVERYONE was cheating because you had to just to compete unless you were OK being fodder=)

In the end, the battle system was just slow.  After playing WOW, trying to go back to those ancient feeling mechanics were impossible.  Besides, leveling up was painful.  How many trees could a person kill, really=)  Another game that might've been fun for a time, but that time is in the past.  It doesn't hold up today.

Are you really judging an entire opinion of an 8 year old game on the first 6 months of it, in 2001? Even when DAoC was considered one of the smoothest launches ever by those standards?

I heard the gameplay shifted from RvR to raid dungeons, I think that is still the case. In its day it was the best game out there and the RvR has never been equaled.

DAOC was my first MMO and i have many good memories and some bad too ;)

But yeah - i left b4 ToA was out...

Back that days it was a group based PvE game with nothing forcing you to raid and depending on the class a solo/group/zerg PvP game.

Questing was more a side aspect...no one really cared about quests beside that high level one about your class epic armor.

It was the only game that managed to inspire an interest about PvP in me as the "Realm Pride" together with the effects about PvE motivated me to join the Midgard-Forces from time to time and give the enemys a clap on their ass.

For todays standards the game isnt good any longer but the mechanics behind the mix of PvP and PvE, the motivation would work very well and the big question is why no one ever has made a similar approach in the recent past...

Its the secret hope of many that some day some one will develop a DAOC-2

That's the main thing about DAoC. Not only was RvR fun, but it was also a good grouping PvE game.

It's not just the RvR that made DaoC fun, but the combination of those two features together. Good grouping game, not a solo fest like WoW, AND on top of that good RvR PvP.

If you made DaoC an easy solo fest to the cap, it would lose a lot of what made it a fun game.
