The collision detection, the thing AoC done better than any other game on the market.
But I am off it myself right now, I will come back after the expansion comes out, I liked the combat (and it got a lot better after the cut of some of the movements for the melee attacks) but the content is just too thin still.
The expansion will hopefully fix that and turn AoC into the game it should have been at launch.
1. Many of the glitches are gone but a few remain.
2. Expansion coming soon.
3. Double xp fr veterans level up faster and more raiding.
(AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH salutes Ubisoft for creating the game Rvaing Rabbids go Home!)
All my opinions are just that..opinions. If you like my opinions..coolness.If you dont like my opinion....I really dont care. Playing: ESO, WOT, Smite, and Marvel Heroes
Because you know you love it! I love it too, no idea how much it's been fixed since launch, never played at launch.. I just downloaded it today and already spent 8hours with it ( nerd? yes :P ). It feels like single player game because good quests, quests that have lore/story behind them!
Really i could give you just one reason.. Its a real fun game.. and that could wrap it up.
But I will also add these other things.
1. The graphics are absolutely amazing. If visuals are important to you than this is the game for you. Very very immsersive. From the combat gore to jaw dropping world visuals.. Just great overall
2. The music and sound effects are also some of the best i have heard.
3. the story lines are pretty well written. Sure voice acting would have been better if done throughout the game but if you actually like to read dialogue this game is very well done.
4. combat is fast paced and furious, and most importantly fun.
In all the game is great. There is a good mix of SOLO vs GROUP content... There are a few bugs you will encounter but overall the game seems really stable on my computer. I will say my main gripe would be the way the map and world is layed out.
its a pretty awesome game overall. i'm still learning and the more i learn the more i enjoy the game. i finally got into a guild that teaches how to be more effective and little details and stuff.
1.
the GRAPHICS are amazing. sometimes you go to an area and stop and look around at the mountain range, or city backdrop , or canyon and its like "wow that looks really cool".
when you create your character spend time on the face alot, because there is a function that lets you "hide" your helmet (so it looks like your not wearing one). i do that now and its pretty cool. some people have the most ugliest faces and its funny, you can see the scars and marks and everything on your face.
2.
plenty of CONTENT. what the heck are people talking about "content is thin" you got to be kidding!. first of all there are 3 distinct areas (one for each race) and each is really big. i know them because i have leveled up like 20+ characters. but on my highest level character i skipped many areas entirely. just last week i went to an area i had never even heard of before.. Imirian Ravine. in my opinion there is a LOT of content both for solo play (which is me most of the time) and group questing. with the new expansion there content will be even more gigantic.
3.
the game is very engaging..."IMMERSIVE"? as in you can get "into" the story. i never been in to Conan books but as you do the quests you begin to feel a part of the Conan kingdom,, working for him and helping him fight the evils. group questing is much more fun to me, because i like playing in groups, but i have mostly leveled up on solo quests and random 1-2 man groups. one quest in particular .. something about "free the frost father" was amazing cool. it really felt like you were in part of a movie or something.
4.
PvP i like PvP. its FUN its EXCITING. you have combo sequences so you have to really pay attention, but melee characters have to constantly be moving around and circling... which i cannot for the life of me figure out how they do it. it takes skill and practice much more so than gear. i think every mmo game i have played/ read about constantly adjusts and readjusts class balance... everybody wants something "fixed" for their class. AoC is no different. the PvP is fun... its designed for group level fighting not duelling... some people don;t really get that concept "synergy" "teamwork" "complimentary abilities/skills/powers" etc.
FATALITIES! blood splashes all over screen, you chop off a mans head! an arrow goes into his heart and blood squirts out and he staggers around then falls over... you get sizzle-fried and turn charcoal black from electrocution... FATALITIES! yeah.
open world PvP (my favorite) is kinda light. mostly takes place in specific known areas. its easy to stay away from those areas if you dont want to pvp. i've never sieged... but its the main reason for me to play AoC.. so hoping they improve it so more guilds will siege regularly. mini games are fun,,, but you need to enter as a premade group mostly or else you get waxed.
so... yeah PvP is great they just need to add more of it.. like mine fights (a la "shadowbane") or something.
5. TUTORIAL. gotta say the in game tutorial was very very helpful. i played anther PvP game with no tuturial and got frustrated and quit after a few days.
...hhmm i guess those are the main points from my opinion. hopefully seeing examples of why i like AoC is more helpful than just "it sux" or "its great buy it". its not a "perfect" game.. if there was a perfect game i would be playing it. but AoC has enough cool features that i like that i have a lot of fun playing.
Why come back to AoC? its a pretty awesome game overall. i'm still learning and the more i learn the more i enjoy the game. i finally got into a guild that teaches how to be more effective and little details and stuff. 1. the GRAPHICS are amazing. sometimes you go to an area and stop and look around at the mountain range, or city backdrop , or canyon and its like "wow that looks really cool". when you create your character spend time on the face alot, because there is a function that lets you "hide" your helmet (so it looks like your not wearing one). i do that now and its pretty cool. some people have the most ugliest faces and its funny, you can see the scars and marks and everything on your face. 2. plenty of CONTENT. what the heck are people talking about "content is thin" you got to be kidding!. first of all there are 3 distinct areas (one for each race) and each is really big. i know them because i have leveled up like 20+ characters. but on my highest level character i skipped many areas entirely. just last week i went to an area i had never even heard of before.. Imirian Ravine. in my opinion there is a LOT of content both for solo play (which is me most of the time) and group questing. with the new expansion there content will be even more gigantic. There is not much content if you leveled so much you know you did pretty much the same thing each time and you needed all three areas to go from 20-40. Compared to most MMOs which have a lot of areas, LOTOR, Warcraft, EQ 1 and 2, warhammer, and Aion where they have usually two factions and a lot of space it is content lite...and really linear, but the content people gripe about is lack of instances and stuff to do at end game where most people spend a lot of their time maxing out a character. The game started off with so little and updates have been so slow compared to other games. 3. the game is very engaging..."IMMERSIVE"? as in you can get "into" the story. i never been in to Conan books but as you do the quests you begin to feel a part of the Conan kingdom,, working for him and helping him fight the evils. group questing is much more fun to me, because i like playing in groups, but i have mostly leveled up on solo quests and random 1-2 man groups. one quest in particular .. something about "free the frost father" was amazing cool. it really felt like you were in part of a movie or something. I grouped up a heck of a lot in EQ1 and Warcraft, and in Aion and Warhammer I grouped up pretty much 100% from the equivalent of level 20-level cap....there isn't nuff group stuff or players to do that here. The story may be good 1-20 as that is Tortage after that is same quests that we always got in other MMOs, warhammer, eq2, warcraft, aion. The Roleplayers say there isn't much RP atmosphere...idk I don't roleplay but the regular PvP server was merged into the RP server so aside from naming policy is no RP there. AoC is pretty broken on PvP and they shifted focus to PvE, IE the PvP system released crap PvP gear a year ago and now it is a joke with T2 and will be even a bigger joke with T3. Sieges lag and crash most the time on pretty much every server. PvP minigames don't happen on most servers on others is same PuG vs. Premade pawnage as other games. Arenas give no individual reward so they won't be very popular, IDK about towers they got pushed back after the expansion. The one thing I hear is after something combat is so slow paced now is not fun and it was so slow at release aside from a few insta gib abilities I couldn't imagine slower. FATALITIES! blood splashes all over screen, you chop off a mans head! an arrow goes into his heart and blood squirts out and he staggers around then falls over... you get sizzle-fried and turn charcoal black from electrocution... FATALITIES! yeah. After the 1000nth time you see it, you see it while leveling all the time...is it still awesome or more of gimick? I play street fighter 4 daily, I love comboing into ultra...the difference is it takes skill to combo into ultra while fatalities are random. open world PvP (my favorite) is kinda light. mostly takes place in specific known areas. its easy to stay away from those areas if you dont want to pvp. i've never sieged... but its the main reason for me to play AoC.. so hoping they improve it so more guilds will siege regularly. mini games are fun,,, but you need to enter as a premade group mostly or else you get waxed. They added guards all over and a heavy ganking penalty to curb world PvP. The old head developer was all about PvP and the new guy seems to not care much bout it. Just imagine most the players have been PvPing in Kesh for almost 2 years now with nothing new and there is no real penalty and for that matter no real reward. so... yeah PvP is great they just need to add more of it.. like mine fights (a la "shadowbane") or something. 5. TUTORIAL. gotta say the in game tutorial was very very helpful. i played anther PvP game with no tuturial and got frustrated and quit after a few days.

Its launch was horrific...I pre-ordered it, and did not last longer then a few months.
I may go back, one day but right now theres are so many mmo's I am into. Gonna be awhile before I return. You know we are in 2010 then and Age of Conan was launched in 2008. Age of Conan is kinda a obsolete product byt now which they are trying to fix up/repair.
Its the same with cars, Some like to buy a used car and know it broken and need tons of repair. Other people just buy the newest model and drive on.

This guy admits to not having played the game since July 2008 (three months into game). AoC was lacking in some areas, but it was NOT HORRIFIC. It is not an obselete product. The players who participate now are having a great time.
We are due out for a huge Update in 1.06. This should be here sometime this month.
The Expansion with an entirely new zone and a new race is due out the first half of 2010. It really looks promising!
i am a casual player. usually a couple hours a day. sometimes not at all for a week straight and then all day and all night on a day off.
from the criticisms i read it seems some people are much more hardcore and there standards are a bit higher. they probable move through content much faster and thus find themselves looking for more.
really there are some games out that do "this" or "that" better but for me, AoC is the best overall game available.
i tried WoW, afterall it does seem to be the most popular game in the world, but the cartoonish graphics style was such a turn off, i quit after only a few weeks. i won't bash what others enjoy, just saying "for me" it was not the one.
i'm having a great time playing and learning and getting better.
happy new years, hope you find your "perfect for you" game.
Ive ended up playing AoC as many other people 6 months after the "catastrophical launch", and It's been a year playing it and i'm still thiking about how many people will i kill tomorrow, all i have to say: AoC is awesome overall, to me the best MMO out.

It is still by far the best looking mmo out there. I love the combat but that is a preference thing (some seem to hate the combat). I've played almost every major mmo out there and I am still baffled on why AoC gets such a bad rap. I will say the one thing that does hurt this game (which can be said for most mmos really) is the low population. I really hope the population can make a comeback.
It's actually a decent MMO, but it just can't seem to bounce back from their horrible launch. They did a trial there a few months back that seemed like it would get some new subs, but there is a lot of anticipated MMOs out there now so I feel like AoC missed their boat for the market. The graphics are way above my expectations, but I just can't get into the game for some reason.

All I've got to say is, you wouldnt have needed to reroll "20+ characters" if the content was not thin.
And the PvP is insanely overrated. If you are a real PvP'er you will be VERY dissapointed by AoC's PvP.
The collision detection, the thing AoC done better than any other game on the market. But I am off it myself right now, I will come back after the expansion comes out, I liked the combat (and it got a lot better after the cut of some of the movements for the melee attacks) but the content is just too thin still. Yes, when it became watered down. old director>new in terms of pvp.
"All I've got to say is, you wouldnt have needed to reroll "20+ characters" if the content was not thin."
REALLY? --- actually DR.Know-It-All, i rerolled 20+ characters because i switched servers a few times, to try a different server and then because friends rolled on a different server.. then because i deleted all my characters when i stopped playing for a bit due to real life issues and again when i just wanted to experiment with different types of classes. most of my characters got up to the mid 30's range.
absolutely nothing at all relating to content or enjoyment of the game.
"And the PvP is insanely overrated. If you are a real PvP'er you will be Very dissapointed by AoC's PvP."
REALLY? --- well, what is a "real PvP'er"? i am a causal gamer who loves to PvP as much as possible. i was addicted to Shadowbane for a very very long time and now i enjoy AoC. i am very satisfied with the PvP in AoC, its fun, it takes skill to move around and execute combos, and the synergy of multiple classes working together is really a cool feature.
i state my opinion as that "opinion" and i give examples of why i think or feel a certain way.
i think AoC is great fun, if you do not, then i'm sure there is another game out there that you will find to be fun.
You shouldn't for several reasons. It still hasn't delivered on a number of its promises, including and perhaps most importantly in PvP. The game is still horrendously linear and overall they're just chugging along the tried and true "add more gear, add more raids" path and ignoring everything else.
If that doesn't sway you, take the fanatical community. Hell, there's even a certain AoC shill in this thread who became sad because someone sad something naughty about his MMO, so he complained to a moderator who upon investigation, SURPRISE belongs to an AoC guild and made a point to single that message out. Most of the people left over are in fervent denial that there is anything wrong with the game, and will nerdrage to the end of the earth that everything is fine and nothing bad happened!
Personally, the community makes or breaks a game for me at least, and AoC is worse than WoW in the respect that instead of just a mass of chucklefucks bouncing around and generally being stupid they have frothing at the mouth fanboys defending the game to the death suggesting that nothing could possibly be wrong, so instead of FC having to own up and face real problems properly, they just keep stringing the fanboys along with more pointless raid content.

You know Funcom had send out thousands/millions of promotional emails after they launched the expansion. I did retry AoC with that 7 day trial only to find out that US/Tyranny server is dead. Went to Khesh and only saw about 4-6 players. Sorry to disappoint you but the fact that AoC still hasn't fixed a lot of things just prove how low is your customer support. So why come back to a game that is pretty much dead and empty? They might as well migrate all servers to 1 or 2.

How populated are the core servers these days? That is one of my greatest fears. What about PVP zones?
Yes, when it became watered down. old director>new in terms of pvp.
Only one good reason to play a game: Is it fun.
However, being that you're one of the vast majority of people who tried it, and didn't think it was fun (apparently) I can't see why you'd come back.
Hop on a free trial, see how it is.
REALLY? --- well, what is a "real PvP'er"? i am a causal gamer who loves to PvP as much as possible. i was addicted to Shadowbane for a very very long time and now i enjoy AoC. i am very satisfied with the PvP in AoC, its fun, it takes skill to move around and execute combos, and the synergy of multiple classes working together is really a cool feature.
i state my opinion as that "opinion" and i give examples of why i think or feel a certain way.
i think AoC is great fun, if you do not, then i'm sure there is another game out there that you will find to be fun.
good luck.
Bans a perma, but so are sigs in necro posts.
EAT ME MMORPG.com!
