You'd be wrong on both counts.  And, Darkfall is the worst ever.

Zorn is probably having a heart attack seeing that WoW is almost universally accepted as the worst at something.

Tried: LotR, CoH, AoC, WAR, Jumpgate Classic
    Played: SWG, Guild Wars, WoW
    Playing: Eve Online, Counter-strike

Best: EVE Online. Very helpful people and mature. After my first few hour I got into a corp that helped me out with the game :) Chat is very polite too.

Worst: WoW and WAR. Do I need to say more?

Aion, Daoc, EVE, EQ2, FFXI, GW, GW:N, L2, LotRO, RO, SWG, WAR, WoW

    Playing: WAR
    Waiting: FFXIV, SW:TOR, GW2

No, my opinion is not wrong.  Neither is yours.  It's just different.  I have experienced a helpful community in Darkfall and experienced the complete opposite in that god awful, poor excuse for an MMO, Warhammer.

Im not going to jump on the WoW hate wagon, lol.

Best community: WoW, mainly because of my guild.  It was a great group of people of all ages and playstyles.  The hardcore players helped the inexperienced ones and there was no drama.  People seem to let a handful of people being stupid in general chat affect them too much.  I put people on ignore, or just didn't pay attention to them, I guess.

Worst community: Everquest, I loved the game, but it was full of arrogant pricks that loved nothing more then to ruin your day.  Kill stealing, training mobs, blocking doorways,  just anything you can think of to piss you off ingame, they would do it.

That is the difference for me.  WoW may have people being idiots in chat, but Everquest had people that could use the game's very machanics to ruin your gaming experience.

    The worst:

That's a hard choise, pvp communities in every game annoy the crap out of me so any pvp game could win this price. However the reason for my choise is not because it's mainly a pvp game, but because the makers messed it up badly. They forgot to add good chat to the game. Yup, I am talking about Warhammer Online. Any game with so little feeling of community deserves to be called the worst. I was tempted to name Runescape and Aion, but then remembered that my problem with those communities are most likely related to me being 36 and those games have a much younger audience so it was hard to relate to the way fellow players thought and acted.

    The best:

The reason I picked this game is because of the entire sensation of it. The community is huge in every single aspect of it, they are massive in numbers, are extremely active inside and outside of the game. I have never before seen so many excellent (and terrible) fanmade movies about a game. It has a very active communitty with seemingly as many soloplayers as groupplayers. People of all types, the good and the bad together. Most of you hate this game for some reason, I personally love it to death. I recently returned to it even though I thought I wouldn't and yet again it pulled me in completely.

For those still in the dark: Yup, I am talking about World of Warcraft. There is no other game that even comes close to the community feel this game has created. Sure there are some annoying players, but remember it only takes a handfull to ruin a public channel, it tells you absolutely nothing about the entire community!

Maybe most of the haters used to play on pvp servers, they are generally talked about as bad. I never play on servers like that so can't comment on that. I always play on roleplaying servers. All I can say is that on those roleplaying servers in Europe the community is great.

    • Oh yea, and AOC
    • And everyone on Aion :)

To be honest, I really have never ran into really bad comunities. Sure, there's asses all over, but not to a degree that they ruined the whole community.

That said, my listing would be like this:

Best: DAoC and SWG both in their early days. I really loved how those communities were tight knit and very helpful and social.

Worst: probably EvE and Warhammer Online. EvE for the fact that it is basically a griefer game and people act like it. War because no one actually spoke to one another. Just one big silence; aweful.

Honestly though, I always found nice people, even in the worst communities out there. It's just that in some games I found more pricks than in others, but that really doesn't mean that nice people are completely abscent. It just takes some more time and effort to find them.

    Best...

LotRO....hands down the best for me...with a great RP community as well......though, I made a few good friends in FFXI...

    Worst...

hmmmmm...well, WAR had a silent and non-wanting to group community...AoC has some idiots on Global Chat...FFXI had a few arrogant assholes...

really hard to say...probably WAR was the worst for me...

    PLAYING: NOTHING!!!
PLAYED:FFXI, LotRO, AoC, WAR, DDO, Megaten, Wurm, Rohan, Mabinogi, RoM

    WAITING FOR: Dust 514

Best would have to be the EQ raiding crowd and SWG PvPers.

Worst would have to be a toss up between most of WoW and EVE PvPers. Although I currently play EVE and love it, I am amazed daily at how horrible some people in that game act.

  • jamesingejamesinge Member Posts: 20

Best was Everquest , was always a good community, you didnt want to be labled as a jerk beause you needed groups and also there were no server transfers or name changes. Re Rolling pretty much out of the country, we spent years leveling our chars.

Honorable mention to LOTRO, although people have no worries about running ahead of you to tap a quest mob you are fighting toward which is apet peeve of mine, but people are friendly in general almost like they are trying to NOT be WoW lol.

Worst Was Shadowbane , oh what a nightmare guilds blocking off huge swaths of land and making cities and ganking people to move their property.Getting your stuff looted from your body after someone backstabbed you out in the wilderness.  Or having a small town and getting it burnt to the ground. It was a very harsh game.

Honorable Mention to Aion. Just seemed like everyone was an expert or a know it all in that game.

My Best Community Experiance would be: Star Wars Galaxies (pre-cu), never really understood what happend to all of them when I see for example the VET section on this website. As they must be from different servers then I where I played the game.

Currently Fallen Earth follows as best community experiance in a MMORPG.

I can't really recall any reaqll worse community, but will admit that since WoW the overall community has grown pretty big, so kinda obvious to see more perhaps bad community aspects within this genre.

Overall I like to surround myself with likeminded people so I do not notice that much from a bad community other then perhaps jumping into the wrong PUG...........

Honestly, the best community I had was back when I played Runescape.  Yea, the community was immature and kinda stupid, but I made probably my best online friends in that game.  But that was a while ago.  Number two would probably be WoW.  The thing about WoW is though 95% of the community are just ass-holes, but when you find that 5% that isn't, usually in your guild and in your friends, it's great.

    This statement is false.

Best: LotRO. Always noticed people being very helpful.

Worst: Runescape. The constant begging for free stuff, kill stealing, noob calling, etc.

For me that's a tie between pre-NGE SWG and LotRO, especially the folks on SWGs test server.
Old, old EQ and EVE both actually had better "high" points for me, but they also had soo many jackasses and outright morons that it dragged them down overall.
Worst multiplayer online gaming community of any I have ever been in goes to Beyond Protocol, hands down with WoW being a close second just due to all the immaturity.

    Yup....that ^^^^^.

    Yet, here I'll try:

    BEST:

LotRO without a doubt, and no comparison in how FAR above other games they shine, in this regard.

EQ2, but only as secondary to LotRO, which I think is the far superior community of all the MMOs I have played.

    WORST:

A lot of games could land in this category for me. WoW, of course. (Although turning OFF trade chat tends to make this at least a tolerable community, at least on my old server.)

And contrary to the hail of EVE fanboism this comment will likely inspire....EVE. There is as much idiotic smack talking in that game's general channels as there is in WoW...almost. If the population were even bigger, I'm sure it would be equivalent. On a positive note...within your own corporation, or at least in mine, it was lovely. But we're talking about communities as a WHOLE here, right? Not just the mini-community of your own corp or guild. Right?

I must add....I personally have never had anyone be rude to me in EVE. However.....if you're not very bright or have any difficulty in figuring out the ins and outs of the game and interface....I have often felt sorry for the responses I've seen some people receive in general channel. A whole lot of "go back to WoW comments."  That gets really old to have to see. And it's rather immature and presumptuous, imo.

WAR....more "go back to WoW" shit. Seriously....MMO communities that are NOT WoW's community....need to get a new line. And again...this wasn't a personal issue, but something I got really tired of seeing in chat, WHEN people actually talk. Because seriously, of all the games I have ever played, people seem to communicate LESS in WAR than in any other game.

Best: LotRo with EVE as a runner up actually.

Worst: Darkfall with Aion as a runner up.

There are good and bad on all of them but the LotRo community will actually stop the trolls whereas Darfall people will egg them on.

  • HYPERI0NHYPERI0N Member Posts: 3,515

First of all i base this on the noobie experience as this seems the most valid.

Best - EvE the community i found were often helpfull answering any question you asked. Of course i did occasionally encounter some asshattery from the odd community member, but thats what the block version is about. Overall i found the communit to be polite [even the pvp community], and the etiquet rules in eve are pretty straightfoward [i.e. dont be an ass and dont cry if you die in pvp].

The worst goes easilly to Darkfall for the way they act towards newbies.

i however found wows community to be Ok true some of the chat was immature at best, it was very easy to group and get into the content. So i rank it second best to eve.

Another great example of Moore's Law. Give people access to that much space (developers and users alike) and they'll find uses for it that you can never imagine. "640K ought to be enough for anybody" - Bill Gates 1981
