It is one of the better pve games out there if your looking for something. However its faults are clear, the endgame really is nothing to write about and the pvp is just stickytaped on and might as well not be there (it hasnt had any focus for a very long time). There is little development apart from fluff aka naming and levelling a legendary.
The game is absolutely lovely to play through but its not more than a few months of content. If you have a job (who does in this climate) then this will run perfectly if your a busy gal or guy but if you want more than 2 hours content every couple of days this game will not satisfy you.

This is not very accurate. Lotro has more content than is being made on here.
If you enjoy a good strong story, with lots of good pve, then Lotro is a great game. The only thing it really lacks imo is strong PvP. Its there, but its not the main focus of this game. Its good for killing some time some nights.
My advise keep you far of this game, first levels are enjoable with a nice story-line, but when you reach Moria the game is bored and tedius, making you do the same over and over. If like groups in MMO this is not your game, the 95% of the game is soloable, they have changed almost all the game and now there are almost not any group quest.
I agree for the most part. After Moria LOTRO went downhill imo. Not too mention LOTRO has very bland and boring pvp which made the world feel too safe to me. I enjoy exciting pvp content and unfortionately LOTRO offers very little.
LOTRO is a decent pve MMO but anyless your a fairly big Tolkien fan (which the majority of the community is these days) you'll likely grow bored near end-game. The world itself is very well done though so if you like eye candy you'll be more then satisfied. For me the nicely done world wasn't enough to outweigh the bad character models and animations after playing it for awhile.
If you do play my advice is try minstrel or guardian because you'll never have a tough time finding groups. For newcomers my guess is you might have trouble finishing book quests because LOTRO has been out for some time now but least your class is one that most groups need to succeed.

Good luck!!
I believe they made a good amount of the book quests soloable.
Like Skyrim? Need more content? Try my Skyrim mod "Godfred's Tomb."
If you like grouping all the time to do quests then you will love this game. I had twenty quests in my quest log and couldn't do a single one by my self. Which is why I quit. I shouldn't have to rely on a group 24/7 just do quests at level thirteen.
learn to play, i soloed pretty much to 63.
Apparently stating the truth in my sig is "trolling" Sig typo fixed thanks to an observant stragen001.
First off, the state of the game on MOST servers is just fine. I'm on Gladden and just last night I was commenting on how overrun with people Bree was in prime time. There may be an underpop server out there, but I am not aware of it.
Solo vs Grouping : Every and I do mean EVERY class in the game can solo to 65th, if that's what you want. It might take a bit of skill in places and some grinding, but on the scale of most MMOs every class can solo. It can be hard to find a group for a specific quest at times, so be flexible: go to an area with multiple quests you want to work on and then solo/skirmish while looking for a quest group. Some quest lines and especially some instances do require 3 man+ groups to complete.
Community: I continue to find the community to be the best part of LotRO. Be aware of the global chat channels and ask in the right place and you will nearly always find useful help or advice. Plenty of people are rolling alts or starting new, even new guilds forming all the time. Heck, we just blitzed Carn Dum and Urugarth last night to get some quest bits for alts/new people
Best classes to start with / solo with: I would strongly recommend starting with a Warden, Hunter, Lore Master or possibly Captain as a first character. They all solo well and are fairly forgiving while you learn the game. Most of the rest of the classes either have a tougher learning curve or don't really become good soloists until fairly late in the game (30th+).
Best way to make money early? : Stick to gathering professions, sell stacks of resources. Don't obsess on constant gear upgrades until you're 30th+.

they did, book 1 is completely soloable even the last boss .

Lotro Instances

There are a number of big 6-man instances you will encounter as you level (there are also a bunch of smaller ones from the Epics and group quests but I will just go thru the big instances), I will try to describe most of them in order. If you like instance grouping and this is your first toon I would recommend to try to get a fellowship together and get them done, they are very challenging and can be great fun. If you are really up for a challenge you should try do these without help from a higher level person but sometimes after so many hours and wipes you may need help Cheesy
You will get very good XP by doing these and some good loot, the XP from completing large instance quests is usually more than regular quests and this holds true all the way to the Radiance Gear instances in Moria. Keep in mind that most of the best gear lvl 1-40 is crafted crit (most). There are some good armor sets at around lev40 you can get from Tal Brunien quests (Trollshaws) that compare to crafted crit but most of the quest gear is not as good, not untill u get to lvl55+ and can start doing Radiance Gear instances. You will need to have Radiance gear to fight The Watcher, Radiance counter acts Dread effects and almost all instance bosses give off a certain amount of dread, some more than others, so bring Hope Tokens. The Watcher is at present time what you could call “End Game” (which should soon change because Turbine likes to give us free content (<3 Turbine).
GREAT BARROWS:
lvl20-25 (would recomend min lev23rd) 6-man resetable
Instance in the Barrow Downs in Breeland. full of Wights, Spiders and other nasty things, fun and challenging dungeon. Quests come from outside of the Prancing Pony and other quests come from Barrow Downs chains that start in the Scholar Stair in Bree. -
For newcomers my guess is you might have trouble finishing book quests because LOTRO has been out for some time now but least your class is one that most groups need to succeed.

More to the point, it seems they listend to the players who asked for them to be soloable. It seems that most players were just ignoring the book quests as they were not inclined or found it difficult to get groups.
My thought is that this is a good thing with one exception. There should always be an incentive to group. Not forced grouping at all but some sort of reason that players might consider grouping.
different rewards. Also, the book quests should not have been solo, solo, solo, group, group, solo, group, etc.
Reason being is that players would get into a group only for one part of them and then they would disband. That really doesn't add to the grouping experience.
There should be more challengs or different challenges and they should be provided with an alternative group option.
this way players who want to or need to solo can do that and players who are inclined to group or who might be conviced to look for a group can get a different and rewarding experience.
