Simple LFG Fix

toddzetoddze Member UncommonPosts: 2,150

I see so many people bashing the grouping system that ffxi had because of the LFG (looking for group). I think theres a simple fix that would have solved it, without changing any of the games features.

All FFXI had to do was to allow sub parties. A sub party would be any party with 2-5 players. A sub party would be able LFG (or LFP look for players) until it got 6 players. I cant count how many times when I was leveling BLM that I had a chance to duo and trio, but because i wanted to wait for a full pt i couldnt join the small group because I never would be able to get in a full pt because my status would have shown that i was in a pt and not lfg. Other people could seach for sub parties and see which groups needed what. I think this system would have cut the lfg problems in half.

Edit: Also that would give people who have multiple jobs the ability to search for sub parties for all of their own jobs to see if they had an oppertunity to change classes and join a sub party.

Since this is the ffxiv board i hope ffxiv stays group focused, but gives players more options to find groups, like my example above.

i do like that idea, not sure if its been done or not or if its easy to pull off. The one thing in FFXI that i know ALOT of people would have loved was multi job LFP, i cant remeber how many times me and my friends would be trying to level 2 or more jobs and only being able to LFP on one, every time id go to switch id think "well what if i miss an invite just as i switch?" so id end up staying on somthing all night and regereting it.

since this game wont have subs (and you wont have to level multi subs, or even subs for subs) i don think it will be as much of an issue, but id like to see more LFP options if they can help it.

In terms of all the code that goes into a game adding another category in the seach system would be a cake walk.

Being able to LFG with multiple classes is another good option they could add.

Edit: Depending on how the game really turns out the lack of a sub system might actually hurt the game as it gets older. In FFXI people leveling subs always gave new players and other players someone to play with. Thats why there was such a steep drop off of parties after 37.

I don't think that's the solution. But it's a step forward at least. Better to have it than not.

Using LOL is like saying "my argument sucks but I still want to disagree".

they patched in the level synch, that really improved the problem considerably. party seekers could put their alternate jobs in comment, not the most ideal way but most parties would check seekers comments anyway.

ffxiv will allow anyone to be any job by the switch of a weapon on the spot which means you wont have to seek party on a specified trait. it will implement some solo play too which means we will all have something to do whilst seeking.

Kinda sounds like the WoW dungeon finder which lets you queue yourself up for an instance with a particular role (1 tank 1 healer 3 dd). You or your group goes into the queue, select the roles you are able/willing to play the computer invites everyone then teleports them to the instance. It only works on the low level instances, but then again that is the only time you really group in WoW outside of a handful of elite spawns which somehow I can take down solo anyway. The neat thing about the dungeon finds is that it is cross server so you aren't just queued up with your server, but everyone that is playing.

Thats a lot of assumptions. Whos to say that SE will allow a player to carry more than one weapon on you? Or more than 2? I honestly dont think SE will allow you to carry as many weapons as you want. As a matter of fact I would be surprised if SE allows you to carry more than 2. Being able to carry anything you want just sounds too easy since what your carrying is so important in ffxiv.

Also There has to be some form of leveling up weapon skills otherwise whats the point of anything but farming/raiding for better weapons and gear?   I still think levels of some sort will play a major role in partys. I just dont see a guy thats been playing with a great sword for 2 years partying with a new guy with a great sword with each player getting advancements.

I really hope there won't be some automated LFG system.  I prefer the seeking players out and talking to them or asking them if they'd like to party.  If no response then they're AFK or busy and don't like the option they were offered.

A system like the dungeon finder in WoW is already broken cause there are far too many players that go afk waiting on it, and it puts everyone else on hold thats ready now and gets kicked out as many as 3-5 times or more before you get 5 players that are there and rdy then warp to dungeon. Also hardly anyone speaks using it anymore...just get in buff and start killing, most times nobody says hi or responds..when its over they just leave.

    I greatly enjoy the grouping up at a meeting location in town, where everyone has the chance to say hi, and wave or bow, say thanks for the party invite and comment on each others names and/or accomplishments like the gear they earned or crafted.  Then everyone travels to the dungeon together usually going to great lengths protecting each other to get there safely, and then finally when its all over, everyone says or waves goodbye, a final bow, and a thank you for the PT, and most of all new friendships are earned to play with later and do things together!  {You don't get this in any other MMOs but FFXI and I hope to see this kind of community blossom once again in FFXIV!}

The FFXIV website mentions their token character walking from one place to another and deciding to change jobs along the way to do something else. Not trying to validate or invalidate anything, but until we see some real game play or someone breaks their confidentiality agreement for the beta (like that would ever happen) we won't know for sure.

the game developers specifically stated that players can freely party together but also have the option to play solo if they desire. they want to create a game where players constantly have things to do.

as for weapon changing, that was already answered in the last reply.

It isn't that bad; you get put back in the front of the queue. I mean if you wait forever because there is no tank and then you turn around and wait for 15 minute only to have one pop but the healer go afk. Okay you go back in the queue, only reasons you'd really wait long is if now no healers were available. I mean you get the same problem with trying to build a party in FFXI as soon as a PLD pops all of a sudden the WHM is gone. The good thing is you go back to the front of the line and you are all doing your own thing anyway so it isn't like FFXI where you might get another invite and or original party is now down 2 guys and then crap falls apart then you have some poor PUP sitting in whitegate crying his eyes out that no one like him and he should just give up and the only one to /comfort him is his automaton that he is controlling via a remote anyway. ... ... not a personal story or anything ...

However I do agree that you don't really get to know people because people are there for a single purpose and it is cross server so you can't really talk to people unless you start a new character later. I am actually surprised there is no cross server chat yet. I though they added it but I was apparently wrong. FFXI does harbor more of a community when you have to talk to people. But also realize all the people who came over from WoW that tried to just randomly invite you without asking. You would decline, then they would bitch you out. I mean in WoW I can't stand it when someone is standing next to me yelling "INV" and doesn't tell me why they even want an invite.
