In my mind, it's like as though I just walked into Ford's factory and asked to pay them to test their newly designed car. To me it doesn't matter if Ford told me that I could get a 10% discount off the car or something like that when it rolls off the factory line if I did that. Just doesn't seem right to me.

Tbh, that was one of the most flawed analogy I ever read :D It's not like you have to pay for the final MO product as well, as you already have done so. So to make your analogy more "correct": You walk in to a Ford Factory and buy a car, but it us unfortunately not finished yet so you get a test car to drive in the meanwhile.

That analogy is still a bit flawed as a car isn't comparable with a mmo.

Thanks for the review. Using the two words perspective and potential just saved me some money. I'll grab this when its on Steam or Direct2Drive for $4.99 in 2011.

hmm, i might get MO tonight just because of this thread.

And i also work with one of the MO forum moderators : )

But i dont get the whining here. I did read up some about getting the game now, and it even says it could be no fun playing MO in a beta stage.

    From the MO account site:

    Beta testing and gameplay

The Beta is starting July 20 with the features from Combat Beta active, as well as a few new ones. The very first steps have to do with architecture, back-end and network-performance. To begin with, we are aiming to test:

    MO Updater (auto-patching system)

    Account System, Login, Logout

Character Creation (The “human family” only, like Tindremenes, Khurites etc, male and female)

General Network and Server stability and speed

    Crowd congestion tests

    Seamless World-streaming

    Updated Prediction System

    Sound

    Client System Performance

This is not very fun from a gameplay-perspective, although crucial from a technical standpoint. To make you run around in the world and have some feeling of purpose in this crude beginning, we are also testing:

Attribute balancing, basic Skill gain (a few example skills)

Further real time PvP, Melee and Archery Combat testing and balancing

"Vendor-crafting" (you bring resources to a vendor, who then crafts stuff for you according to your instructions, like in Combat Beta). The Skills and GUI (Graphical User Interface) for the "real" crafting is still in development

Very basic resource-gathering (refining, prospecting etc will be in together with crafting later on, meaning at the moment you will get magically pre-refined resources when mining, etc)

    Fundamental AI-behavior, a few creatures

World traversing, Swimming and Combat Swimming

Around 32km^2 of the Myrland continent

Basic banking (global at first, local if we manage to get it in before this weekend)

    Local chat (no languages)

The Flagging System (complete with temporary insta-guards in guard zones)

That's it. Nothing more, nothing less. These first important steps will be the foundation of the game, and updates will come quickly and at a regular basis once we are confident most of the above is working in the new massive environment.

Please also remember that both your possessions and your Characters can be wiped from the server at any moment, and that this may happen several times during the Beta.

You're in for a rough ride, but we are excited for those of you who want to embark on this journey with us!

How would you know... you've been BANNED from beta for nearly 2 months..!

What is funny is that you suggest that NOTHING can be done and that StarVault doesn't have the right to further refine combat, etc..   which they have done since you've been banned and which they will continue to do over the comming months/years..

NA server might alleviate any lag you were experiencing, but you'll never know!

You think that because they banned my account I can't play? LOL

I'm in a guild genius. Just think about it.

wow I´m thinking about : he went back?why?and guild named genius?

Waitaminnit... did I read that right?  BOUGHT the beta?  Please tell me it's just a free beta preorder deal and that games aren't actually SELLING their beta's, now...

Yes I changed the thread title to avoid confusion sorry. I actually Bought the GAME client and got 30 days free once the game launches, plus as a bonus for buying it early, I have beta access for free. ..Hopefully that sounds better, heh. Sorry for the confusion.

Glad you feel that way, many of us feel that if we didn't pay the full price up front, there basically would be no beta.

So we paid for beta. So did you.

It's pretty funny how the same people that scream YOU DIDN'T PAY FOR BETA YOU PRE-ORDERED A GAME... also scream

WHY WOULD YOU WANT A BOX WITH A BLANK DISC?

JUST DOWNLOAD AND PLAY THE GAME!

YOU AREN'T GETTING RIPPED OFF BY NOT GETTING YOUR PRODUCT AFTER 6 MONTHS OF PAYING!!

THEY ARE LETTING YOU PLAY THE BETA!

"Beta" is the wrong word. From the sound of things, this barely qualifies as an alpha.

As for paying for it, well, that's up to the people who pony up the money. I think there are too many fly-by-night and just plain incompetent developers to do this personally, but to each his or her own.

But, really. 10k people paying for early access? That's only 400k dollars or so. Making an mmo costs millions. What they should be asking for are investors, which means you'd be getting part of the profit, not the privelege of paying a sub for the game should it ever actually be completed and launch.

Actually many people thought that we wanted the metal boxed version and it could be sold out so we paid up front. Some others wanted the limited edition box with all the extra stuff in it.

So we paid for shipping, game account, first month, metal box, every expansion and some people paid for the extras in the loot bag. Yes beta acess was part of the package but only idiots presume that what they paid for is beta access, especially when everything else in the package is what actually costs money.

Not really, see what happened is he wanted to help make soem beta forums (most likely so he can leak information) and the admins of the current forums stated that they were working on a solution and ousted him from the process. Then he nerdraged over there and got himself banned from the forums, then he came over here and nerdraged. Later on it was found out that his account was the one used to film the moleaker videos so he got banned from the beta for breaking NDA.

Now he is on a personal crusade to make MO look bad in every way, so he basically scours the forums for any tidbits of information and aparently uses a friends account so he can point out anything that needs improvement, but he does it in the most biased and butthurt way.

He comes to these forums and attempts to inlist an army of haters, trolls and people who play the competetors games to prevent others from trying Mortal.

Everything Herc has said is accurate.  MO is in an awful state.  AV is going about business in an underhanded way and the game just plain stinks right now.  Some people need to get a grip, and it isn't Herc.

well i spent the last couple of weeks just reading this and mortal online forums and this subject was chewed over and over and i dont think i can convince you that the game is not in an "awful"  state, as its obviously didn't hit your demands from a game pre-launch.

but please consider that some people do enjoy the game and do not think its in "awful" state, and actually happy with the way its progressing. so obviously those are subjective feelings.

but regardless if he is accurate or not, i will never understand how someone devotes his life in bashing some company who just trying to do something they believe in against all odds.

i personally think what SV is doing is admirable, cause with how low resources they have, they still succeed (it appears) in making something unique.

now ill wait till someone will call me a fanboy just cause i enjoy the game.

You're right about the last part -- I am doing my part to ensure that people aren't fooled into buying a beta. If they want to play, they should wait for the OPEN beta.

Trying to convince them otherwise is literally trying to convince them to become loan officers, and issue SV an interest free loan while they squander the cash so they can have breakdowns on their forums, attack forum members whom they disagree with, and try to cobble together this game so they can ship their first piece of software -- EVER.

Does anything on that list have more than a place holder in place in the current build?    I know the testing has been bad, since the devs took a 2 week vacation, but did the new patch actually have any finished features?
