It's a tough choice I don't know yet although I'd probably like to make a healer... but I'd also like to try tankin'.... humans (or whatever they are) are probably the safest route for multiple jobs.

just remeber, they did say that race will have very little effect on status, its more cosmetic now, so go with what you enjoy over what will fit your play-type.
il probly end up going hyru because it just tends to resinate with me more, being a human IRL and all lol.
hoping the lalafell will look a little better in game. from what i see they look like dawf elvaans when running around at the moment. i think aside from that, all races are looking great!
i'll probably go either lalafell or the mithra race from what i have seen so far.
I'd like to see them add some kind of racial abilities honestly. Something that is going to differentiate the human paladin from the cat paladin other than a few MP/HP and some dex
Most likely I'm going to play a hume and this time around I might play as a female. I won't be one of those dudes who play a female character and act like a chick to get pitty, friends, or money. I also I'm enjoying how people are still using the FFXI race names and it shows how much they enjoyed XI. I also haven't got use to the new names yet, well all but the Miqote that is just a name that really stands out to me.
Race won't matter, SE has already said they're planning on making them all as equal as possible, unlike FFXI where Galka has trouble playing Mages cause of their low MP, and Tarutaru had low DPS cause they're more Magic based. Course that never stopped anyone and I've played with some very amazing Galka WHMs, and Taru DPS.
Anyway, I'm going Miqo'te all the way again! FFXI and FFXIV are the only MMOs with a true cat-girl race...can't beat that...hehe!

I just think race should effect your build. I really hope we see more options in character creation, if race is just for looks.

and yea Mithras rock, I love the Mithra run
i would agree with you that races should effect builds, but not for a game like this. Most other MMOs you are only playing a single class, so having those start stats is a good way to seperate people playign that perticular class. Where as in FFXI and XIV you can play all of them on one character, it would kind of upset people when you have this almost limiting feeling. Most people wont want to start all over just to play a class more proficently.
In FFXI most of your stats were really effected by gear and later merits, so in the end there wasnt much a huge difference. Me and i know plent of others are likeing the fact that you can choose a race becuase you like it, not because race A will = a better tank then race B.
If it is possible I could well imagine myself being a Lalafell crafter of some sort. I liked the pic, on the official website, of the little lady at a spinning wheel. So either a weaver or a cook.
None...they all look far too cutesy for my liking. I'm Very dissapointed with the character selection I mean who wants to a chubby faced kid (Lalafell) into battle, these characters look like they are descendants from the Teletubbies!
Guess I'll just have to wait for guild wars 2, at lease their characters look like they should be in a war and not in Kindergarten.
"who wants to a chubby faced kid (Lalafell) into battle"
more people than you would think! im glad they take a bit more of a comical approach to the game, we already have so many serious avatars to chose from.
i used to think taru didnt fit in when i first started ffxi but they grew on me, i even ended up playing one!
I have a lot of friends interested in this game. When FFXIV comes out, my large-sized (muscular, not fat) buddy is gonna be a Roegadyn, my girlfriend is going to be a Miqo'te, my childhood friend is going to be an Elezen and I'm most likely going Hyur!
I'll probably test out all of them, however.

I'm looking forward to playing a Hume.
Momo sucks, I have proof.
I'll be playing a Mithra or a Tarutaru. I haven't decided which yet, I probably won't until more information, videos & screenshots are released.
Sorry, the new names haven't grown on me yet.
Ill play the human character, Always do except in one rare case in EQII where the sarnak race was to sweet to pass up. Gotta love the dragon race.
Waiting for:EQ-Next, ArcheAge (not so much anymore)
Now Playing: N/A
Worst MMO: FFXIV
Favorite MMO: FFXI

Galka or Elvaan and I do hope race matters
Taru, Elvaan or Galka. In that order.
