thinking of maybe playing...

itchmonitchmon Member RarePosts: 1,999

I dont want to be imperious sounding and just say "i command thee, convince me".

I play WoW and Eve atm and love both games (i'm not partial to sandbox or theme park, I like both as you can see).

I am however getting a bit fed up with a Disconnecting issue that i have with eve.  Here's not the place for details but sffice it to say that for whatever reason, I can stay connected to any other game with under 200ms lag for however long i want, except eve, where i (suddenly!) cant stay connected for over 10 mins.

Sooooo I might want to look for a different sandbox game to fill Eve's place in my games lineup.

I've been looking at Mortal and I woujld have already DLed the trial and jumped in if there were such a trial.  It seems though that the only way to experience the game at the moment is to get an account, pay for a preorder and play the closed beta.

Well, it looks like it's a neat, skill based game.  Full pvp doesnt bother me (i'm in a 0.0 alliance in Northern coalition in eve), skills dont bother me. Not seeing my character might bother me, i'm not sure.  I remember i used to play EQ1 in first person til someone taught me that it was a lot easier to do so in 3rd person mode.

Some things i really like in a game are:

-houses!  it might sound stupid but i remember having a house was my favourite thing about eq2 for the time i played it.

-running around and finding stuff

-being self sufficient (i enjoy company too but i like being able to make my own stuff if i have to)

-altzzzzzz (WoW fills my altoholic needs with eve being essentially a one character per account game) I hear there is some sort of skill sharing among alts (at least, i got that from the official website.)

-working in big blobs/raids/whatever your game calls thems for both pvp and pve.

A few pet peeves

-I dont mind getting PVP'd at all (it's part of a PVP game) in fact I like PVP.  but i DONT like getting griefed, IE put into a situation where someone is abusing a game system just to make it impossible for me to play my game

-games where the server is made out of wet noodles held together with fail so that most of the game experience consists of the login screen

-rude community : I try to always be a helpful community member in any game i play.

any thoughts on whether I am in the right forum to fill my gaming needs?

thank all of you in advance...

Play Darkfall instead. This game won't be ready for at least another year. It's basically Darkfall with slightly better character models and buildings (but horrible empty game world). Give it time to grow and it should be ok, Not now though.

Don't touch MO it is not very good at the moment, Darkfall is a much better game for now.

MO is a good game, don't touch DF.

What the fuck is up with the pissing competion?...

Two things are infinite: the universe and human stupidity; and I'm not sure about the the universe.

It's not a pissing competition, MO looks to have some really cool features that DF does not have. I'm looking forward to playing it in a year or so, if it's still running. As it is now though, it's really not in a state to be played by any realistic standard. This close to launch, with the game this incomplete, the devs put in a patch that literally broke the game, then went on vacation. A few weeks from release. Who does that? Also, they made you PAY for beta.

play the open beta and try it for yourself, open beta details havent been released but it has been confirmed there will be one.

edit: considering they plan to release at the end of the month, details should be available around that time.

Open betas mean open to everyone. I doubt MO will have an open beta. If they are releasing this month, open beta needs to start right about now.

If you want to help test and support the company then pre-order. If you are lookign to play right away then wait for release. Alot of members from my clan are waiting until release before they play because they don't wan't 'beta woes' to spoil the experience. This game is in beta right now and the server crashes sometimes and they are nt he process of fixing all sorts of things.

If I were you I would try to figure out the problems with Eve and stick with that for a while and play wow for a bit then try MO at release.

    thx everyone for the responses!

I think i shd probably wait for the release...

but then again i'm having an operation on my foot tommorrow so i'll have 2 weeks with nothing to do...  might be worth the 50 investment ... got to see how i feel.

I didnt realize the DF fans were so loyal.  I thought about DF but i heard it's just oozing with cheaters.  But I'll certainly look into any game (well, hello kitty aside)

oh! and i thought of more questions if ppl would be gracious enough to answer.  :]

    1) windows 7 64ed. / AMD phenom II quad core  / ATI Radeon HD 4770.  that's my system, some non-common parts (IE AMD & ATI instead of NVIDIA and Intel) anyone else have these parts and have a problem?  does the game run okay on W7?

    2) someone mentioned clans (i assume they're guilds/corps) --how do guilds work?  are there guild houses?  Etc Etc.

    thanks again

To create a guild you first have to build a house then put a guild stone in the house. Then you interact with the guild stone and create the guild. At this time you gain acess to the guild chat channel.

If you interact with the guild stone you see diplomacy options, guild management and the guild list.

Diplomacy section is where you manage your wars. Guild management allows you to invite/kick or promote/demote people.

Once you have upgraded your house with a clanstone it is essentially the guild house, they havent added in any special buildings yet and to enter the house you will need to give members a key. They need to do a bit more to flesh it out IMO, but the basic clan management and war declaration is in.

Rather play MO that DF. Even if MO isn't full game yet, DF's skill system is fucked and game world totaly empty unless u count hackers so you just end up quiting.

It should be clear that it's better to choose upcomming success that a game which has already totaly failed.

I have played MO with a ATI 4870 and 5870 with no problems, i know of others running AMD's so you should be fine.  Starvault partnered with Nvidia and Intel, but other gear works great too.

    The correct answer ^

All I will say is this.  There is currently a thread on the official forums started by one of the people who posts here.  In that thread they are basicly begging StarVault to delay the games release as it will fail if releases this month as they claim.  They are even offering to donate money to get the company to delay launch.

There is also a poll up on the site and the last I checked it was around 87% to delay the game.

don't listen to anyone, wait till Open Beta and see for yourself, its a niche game and its an individual opinion.

  • itchmonitchmon Member RarePosts: 1,999

thx for the opinions and well-wishes!

(i am sitting here now with my heel all taped up and on pain meds, the op went very well /grin )

I still have yet to commit to my game of choice to buy...  I almost went ahead and got DF but I am worried about there not being enough of a penalty for being a griefer.  Eh.  I might go head and spring for it, or else i might just write off the 50 bucks as a stab in the dark and try the preorder for Mortal

One of the great things about eve is that, even though nothing is technically stopping anyone from shooting anyone,  the risks associated with random ganking are so high that it doesnt occur very often... and when you DO meet someone who has managed to get to -10.0 you are filled with this strange double sense of awe and disgust  (and fear)!

Thx for the reassurances about my system & hardware being okay.

I'll post whether i decide to play this, or DF, or whatever.  Still got a couple weeks on my hands!
