Monthly subscription cost of EQ2 is...?

FelkinFelkin Member Posts: 4

Can anyone help me here? I've checked the forums and checked the official everquest 2 site. Their FAQ section states:

"When will EverQuest II be released?
EverQuest II will launch in 2004.

Will a monthly fee be required to play?
Yes, the monthly subscription fee will be announced at a later date."

I wish they'd update their information. I have no idea how much it costs per month and any help would be appreciated.

Thanks.

    Hi there,

Just wanted to give you a heads up (and a warning) with EQ2 payments...and alot of other stuff

when you decide on whether you want to pay for EQ2 or not, please remember to factor in the following:

You must pay extra for 4 extra character slots (you start with 4)
You must pay extra for the planned "mini" module dungeons expansions. That means that if your guild
decides to go adventure in some mini dungeon, every member must pay the $4.95 for that specific dungeon.
You must "of course" pay for future expansions

And you probably must also pay extra for anything else, that SOE comes up with in the future

Besides that, even the smallest zones are unplayable to due lag and obscene pc specs, because
EQ2 is "designed with the future in mind"... yeah right...

And just a (large :) footnote... SOE have managed to misuse the "instancing" method, by reintroducing the "spawn times" in EQ2. What they "forget" to tell you, is that you will start to encounter "spawn times" at semi-high levels (28+ or so). This means that instead of using instancing to further the players game experience, they make you wait 30-45 minutes for a spawn. (The "smart" thing is that they hope, that you're too involved in the game at that point to leave... well i wasn't...)
What this does, is that it also promotes KS'ing (kill-stealing) to an unheard of level. The only thing that KS'ers need to now is to wait beside you for the spawn, then be the first to damage the monster and ZIP, the combat is locked and you're "allowed" to start waiting for another 30-45 minutes.

Bottom line, despite all that they claimed to learn by making EQLive (EQ1), SOE have managed to come up with a pretty looking, boring (the mission designs are the poorest i have ever experienced and many are mirrored copies of one another, only with different mobs), pointless, lagging, obscene HW demanding game and i would sincerely recommend everyone to try something else... CoH, WoW, Matrix, DaoC, EVE (THE space MMO, but demands patience). <- please note that i'm not mentioning SWG since it's exactly as bad a game as EQ2...ohh, and that's a SOE game as well, whaddayaknow..?!

    Hope this helps your decision

I also recommend another game to try. I played EQ2 and didn't even finish the trial period.image

They still have so much to do with that game. You better try another game.

Dont want to go through all the flaws here (but if you want to know, i will). Or..if you really wanna play it 'cuz you are a huge fan of EQ..then i would wait some months to let the game mature and grow a little bit more.

    Pasho.

Thanks for all the info. Very interesting. Always good to hear from people who have played the game. Thanks again.

    Wrong.

You must CHOOSE whether or not to pay for the 4 extra slots.

You must CHOOSE whether or not to buy the new add-ons.

And the only time I have ever had lag is when about 3 groups are all fighting group mobs in the same spot.

This other guy needs to buy a new computer and the willpower to not buy every other little thing that is thrown at him.

Yeah, Eq2 seem a bit expansive but :

You got new stuff each week in the patch
They need some money to keep paying a 200 ppl team working in EQ2.
yeah. for those who haven't read it, EQ2 got 200 ppl working on the project of expanding eq2
Some expansion are free, some BIG may cost some buck, and their the adventure pack (last one cost 4$ more for a month, but, if you take it, you might get the 4 character slot)
But, I who need 8 character !? and the adventure, I never heard of anyone going there. So, SoE might just make them free in 6 month ;)

What the heck do people have nothing better to do?

He asked about monthly cost not your personal almighty review on a game.

Folks need to learn to stay on topic not carry some unhealthy personal crusade against a game that even my 13 yr old nephew is more mature to do.

Jepster makes one single post  ever on this forum and its a long rant out of topic on his take on the game.Thats sad.

    Grow up!

Cost is $14.99 per month end of story .Thats what i pay thats what most people pay.I never bothered with any min packs(if they even been implemented) as i have yet touched most of the content even at level 42.

    It's $14.99.

You don't really need more than four characters, it's not a game like WoW where it's designed for you to level several characters to the cap, it's a one main and alts type game. WoW lets you play multiple characters but a part of the reason for this is that is much easier to level one character.

Additional pay content isnt there yet. When it comes it will be if you wish only and you will be able to play the front end of it first to see if you want to pay the one-time $5 for the remainder. Other than that it will be the same expansion pack strategy as every other MMO.

The game is not very laggy for me, only when its very crowded. Yes it requires very good hardware ... so what, they are upfront about that.

I find it every bit as fun and engaging as other MMOs, inlcuding WoW. It's a deeper, more involved game than WoW and one that emphasizes group play to a greater degree ... so that will determine to a significant degree whether you will like it or not. I found the quests no more repetitive, boring or uncreative than many quests in WoW which are also kill X number of Y creature, get Z number of A drop from C creature, etc -- in that respect the games are more similar than different. I very much like EVE, but that's a very unique game and of a different genre.

The second post was a link that shows the sub costs. So instead of telling us to grow up you might want to actually read what you are posting on. I'm sure your 13 year old newphew is mature enough to do that also.

    Also:

If you choose to pay for the extra 4 character slots, you get the adventure packs for free (If you have the "station pass" 2 months before, or something like that...)

With the extra slots comes access to Everquest, Planetside and some other games...the total cost for the "Station Pass" is 21.99.

If you choose not to use Station Pass it is 14.99 plus the cost of the adventure packs IF you choose to buy them.

    What exactly are adventure packs?

  • JodokaiJodokai Member Posts: 1,621

With the station pass (21.99) you Get 8 slots on EQ2, Starwars Galaxies, Planetside, Everquest 1, and a couple of others, plus the adventure packs are included.

Adventure Packs are large dungeon type adventures that SOE plans on adding in addition to all the regular updates.

Well thats about as flat out of a lie as anyone could toss out about Everquest II.

    - The modules are free to station access members
    - You cannot buy more character slots, Sony Access members just get an additional 4 as a REWARD for paying for ALL their services.
    - There is no lag, set your dam video properly and quit trying to peek it up to high so you have something to gripe over
    - Its EVERQUEST, EQLIVE is a website.
    - I have never had someone camp next to me and take a spawn, and your complaining about combat locks??? Heaven forbid you actually have to kill the mob on your own with your own skill or die due to your bad judgement. That would just be asking FAR too much.
    - You are obsessed with SOE, you bring it up more times then I can count in a post, you really despise them that much?! Did they kill your goldfish when you were young?
    - I am anything but demoralized, and I think I speak for the rest of the EQ II players here when I say that.

Go buy a new goldfish, move on.

    ROFL.

He's never heard of spawn times and thinks he needs to explain with "KS" means.  Just another BNet escapee.   They really need to increase security over there.
