I agree, that'll most likely be the case. BUT, just for the fun of speculation, since it seems FFXIV will offer more character customization than FFXI, imagine if the "irreversible damage" had something to do with altering your appearance...
Yea !
It makes me think about something. Let's say you could lose your arm in the teleportation. Then you wouldn't be able to cast some spells or do some abilities or lose some attribute points. You would need to complete a chain quest to get your arm back or get a titanium arm or something (full metal alchemist anyone?) hehe
I believe by "Strongly discourage" they simply mean: the NPC incharge of teleporting you will say come back later it will hurt you if you use this too much.
They won't give you perma-damage to ur character, rest assured.
My take is they have designed the game towards the casual, way more than FFXI,however they do not want to turn it into a complete joke.
So what i figure is they will have a system that limits how much you can teleport in a said amount of time.Obvious reasons? The poor design of course, with everyone being able to have access to every class, players can warp around non stop everywhere and abuse the system.Imagine combat is going bad,one of your on the ball group members decides to teleport everyone out,it makes combat risk a non factor.
This is why i do not and will not like the access to every class design,it has too many ways to abuse the game ,it really waters down the class system,to where it is near meaningless. It woudl especially make solo boss fights lame,as players coudl freely experiment with unbeatable bosses and just sleep or Bind or gravity+teleport out.
I do not think there will really be any punishment, they are just creating a story line to why you won't be able to teleport at will.A punishment at most may be something like not being able to teleport for 24 hours or something meaningless like that.
Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.

Didnt the devs say somewhere that inventory is going to play an important role? I still dont think SE is going to allow you to carry any amount of weapons that you want. There smart enough to know that wouldnt be a good idea. I bet your only allowed to carry 1 weapon at a time. Possibly 2. So I am not placing to much stock in the exploit of class switching . Yet anyways. When release gets here and you can have 1 of every weapon, then its time for concern.

Again, don't panic, they wont force you into irreparable damage. if there IS damage, there will be a cure for it. (maybe a 40% HP down Debuff or somehting) I mean even dying 50 times and losing a crap load of levels is REVERSIBLE its just a pain in the ass, it may be something similar.
Maybe you will lose EXP for teleporting to fast? technically its IRREVERSIBLE, you need NEW exp to get back to the same place. Maybe its a play on word, who knows!
or you got to take a week(game time)off of work so you have to do mindless task like gatering food cant be in combat or your time lengten

I kinda agree with you. If you look at the official FFXIV site, under the "armoury" section, it gives you an example of how it will work by showing you a "day in the life of Leeroy" or something like that. And in that example he's carrying two weapons, but that doesn't mean that's the limit.

They will not do permadeath or permadamage or anything like it. I guarantee it or my money back!

^this
My sig is just as logical as your posts are
Ok, maybe perma-damage for teleporting too much is unlikely, but I think a perma-mullet would be feasible.

Is it a concern? Or did they figure that it allows the same class swapping from the last game, but out in the field?
