What do you think about the SOLO aspect of the title?

Personally, I hope for limited solo potential.

But, that said, i hope for some solo content.  I would like there to be room for solo play but an EXTREME INCENTIVE to group up.

Maybe weapon levels (who knows the full system, lets call it levels to keep it simple..) for soloing, but MORE weapons levels per kill for grouping?

I just find the whole cooperative aspect of FFXI was its core popularity.  I don't want to lose this.

I feel the same, but I'm sure SE will make it easyer to solo then when XI started. XI has become more solo friendly over the years

Personally I'd prefer it to be like FF11 with poor solo content. I am personally sick of virtually every mmorpg being a single player game till certan points, by this I mean where you can do most of the lv grind solo.. Them making FF14 solo friendly has me worried that its going to be yet another wow wannabe.

    I compltely agree.

    Forced Grouping

People always think they are BETTER at the game then everyone else

cuz they can SOLO faster than them.

Play in a group, the real winner is the guy who know show to make a decent group of people out of a bunch o' schmucks!

    Its just my opinion though.

I think some sort of BONUS to grouping is required. not just a social incentive.

Give people an OBVIOUS BONUS to grouping and they will flock to it

Tend not to think about it, I plan to play with friends and my LS as often as possible, and when they're not available; I'll go explore and work on crafting as I did in FFXI.  Although farming up mats did require some solo encounters to get too certain locations for the raw materials, but as far as substantial progress like storyline/lore....party only as often as I can!

All y’all that are having a coronary about “making FFXIV like WoW” can just stop (or just die of the heart attack I really don’t care). What the goal is to make a game that is accessible to as many people as possible. From a company standpoint, do you think that is fair to try to get as many people as possible playing so you can make more money? Is everyone on the same page here? Does this mean you can get from 1 to 75 in 3 weeks? A) You can do that now in FFXI … B) There are no levels so why even bring it up.

There are people who are going to want to solo all the time. There are people who are going to want to party all the time. Why are the soloers bitching at the partiers and why are the partiers bitching at the soloers? You’re not going to freaking see each other. Think about it.

I know there are times when I want to just go out on my own and mindlessly hack and slash things while I’m waiting for something to happen. It is why I play WoW. It would be great in FFXI if I could LFP as one job and maybe farm some stuff up or maybe get some exp while I’m waiting. That isn’t too much to ask. I’d much rather be partying most of the time but if I happen to catch a day when I didn’t get an invite (which happened quite rarely to be honest with my 1337ness) it would be nice to be able to go do something in the mean time. The major problem a lot of people had with FFXI wasn’t the grind or the community or learning curve (all that could be hit or miss) if you surveyed people who played FFXI at one point I’d guess that their main gripe was the wait for a party. If you were going to take FFXI and try to improve on it for a successor the first thing you should do is fix the biggest gripe. This is doing just that.

Are you going to have people do nothing but solo? Sure. Is there going to be an effect on the world? Yes … but very minimal (I’ll go into a dissertation on the effect of players on a virtual world some other time … your welcome). So someone gets as farthest progressed as they can get solo. They will need to group at some point to get high-end gear (I’m assuming there will be an end game). So if they want to get to that point they will have to interact with people and they will be at a disadvantage socially. If they find it is too hard to get help to get high-end crap they will probably skip it. Just because someone has a play style that is different doesn’t mean it is wrong. So partiers go LFP forever, so soloers go try to find help forever; we all can get along.

This quote from this extremely intelligent guy from another post makes a whole lot of sense to me. The entire post is here is you want to read it: What Icon Thinks is Going to Happen with FFXIV. It is a long read, but it is a nice one that seems to make a lot of sense; although a bit too many typos for my taste. Overall, does it fucking matter? If this or any other aspect of the game is a deal breaker for you then don't play. No amount of discussion or bitching is going to change the fact that the game is what it is going to be.

Like icon said, no amount of biotchin is gonna change th egame, but i personally think it does matter to some extent. If the game ends up making solo too easy compared to grouping, most everyone will not want to go through the hassel of setting up a PT and finding a camp, and in turn will leave few people to part with, making group content (until endgame) almos non-existant. I know thats a bit extreme, but its not impossible.

But generally no, its ok to have a mix of the 2 types of players, as long as one side doesnt go way beyond the other.

My point being is if that is the game that comes out then that is the game that comes out. Do I think it will? No. Could it? Yes. WIll I be happy? As long as it is fun I will enjoy myself because I don't let small things like this stop my from playing.

And in all honesty I picking up WoW again on Christmas because I needed something mindless to do until my family arrived. I have been playing it 2-3 nights a week since. My rouge (which I had just started that day) is up to level 49 and I am having the most fun I have had in WoW in 5 years. Sometimes something like that can be enjoyable.

I am personally not putting to much worry about the solo content their talking about. I still think its going to be a grouping game. I think there saying there will be more solo content to get more players, I dont think they are feeding us full of BS, there probably will be more solo content, but as for the meat of the game, its going to be grouping. Its also being made by the same people who made ffxi, and its still an asian game so a lot of focus will be on teamwork. Their target audience will be the japanese. If I learned anything about SE from FFXI its that they dont listen to the NA player base which is the best part about SE.

This is my opinion nothing in this post is backed by fact, this is just what I think based on what I know about SE and through all my years of playing FFXI and many more years of playing SE games.

Waiting for:EQ-Next, ArcheAge (not so much anymore)
    Now Playing: N/A
    Worst MMO: FFXIV
    Favorite MMO: FFXI

The balance of risk v reward for solo v group seems like it must be difficult to achieve.  EVERY mmo tries to give better rewards for groups than for solo, but they always seem to hedge too far in favor of the soloer.  Maybe its the fact that at low to mid levels leveling is so much more important than the good gear you could get from group content.  Even with a great sword you out level it pretty soon and get another one, so why bother?  May be different if FF14 has no levels as I hear.
