do you get a character?

in Star Trek Online

I was just wondering if you get a character in this game, or do u just get a ship with a bunch of characters in it?  Or do you have a main character and then you have npc other characters, or do you control them like rts, How exactly do you control the people in this game?

    I haven't played the game yet, but I do know that you get a main character that will be the captain of your ship, and you'll have bridge officers that you'll control in a similar way that you control "pets" in other MMOs.  You can advance and/or train both your main character and your bridge officers.

    You'll also get access to different ships as you increase in rank.

    From what I have seen you get a character to play and develop. The game has both ship and character based game play. You do get npc team members which help out in both areas of game play.

    There are also both space and ground (away team) missions so you aren't always in your space ship.

    oh ok thanks.  anyone with more info feel free to post.  Is it possible to play as any of your crew or just your main character/captain?

    -Wait what? you "get" character to develop lol? how is that MMO :O? never played MMO where you get character <_< usually i create my own character.

    That is what he meant.

    You get to design and create your captian and change his abilities as you progress.

    On top of that you get Bridge Officers that you can also change the appearences of, level up, skill up and are used on your ship as well as away missions.

    On top of that you have your ship which can almost be treated like a player character (name it, change some features of it as well as upgrade it)

    There are 3 types of people in the world.
    1.) Those who make things happen
    2.) Those who watch things happen
    3.) And those who wonder "What the %#*& just happened?!"

    I read somewhere you get two but can buy more via RMT if you so wish.
