    Would I play a CoD MMOG ?

Sure, once they put dedicated servers back into the PC version on MW2, apologise to the entire PC community for the failure that is IWNet, sort out the cheating, allow Mods to be used in MW2 and acknowledge the years of hard work by the modding community that they seem to enjoy leeching idea's from.

Until then I will never touch another IW game.

Im really interested in seeing how they pull this off.

I really hope they stay true to an MMORPG, and don't switch to an MMOFPS style.  I'd love to see the interesting concepts they have for how to transform an FPS into an MMORPG while keeping a similar feel to the game so you can still say to yourself, "Hey, this is an MMORPG, but it totally feels like Modern Warfare."  If they cop out and just make an MMOFPS, I'll be very disappointed.

  • KasmosKasmos Member UncommonPosts: 593

I would probably not play it. Why? Because Infinity Ward seriously screwed over us PC gamers who were the people that got that franchise off the ground and mainstream when they released COD:MF2.

Also, if they're getting people from Blizzard and SOE, they'll probably dumb down the game so appeal to the "general public", i.e. carebears and casuals, so the game probably would suck anyway.

Honestly, I'm not excited, and unless they make it a level-less, skill based PvP game like Darkfall, EvE, and other certain previous games, it will fail miserably in my mind.

And... after I posted my comments I read this. Completely, 100% agree. Infinity Ward took a big dump on the playerbase that helped them get this far. Because of this, I've lost almost all respect for them.

If it's an MMOFPS in the sense that Soldier Front is an MMOFPS, then no.

If it has a persistent world, and more RPG-ish elements, then yes.

If pvp is skill based, rather than level based, i'll be happy.

I dunno. The thing I liked about COD MW1 and MW2 most was the storyline. MMOGs aren't typically known for their awesome storylines.

I just can't see a COD MMOG as being anywhere near as good as the original games.

I think a infinity ward will do an amazing job at making this a great game.  I just hope that it isn't something stupid like Crimecraft.   They should do like a battle for europe kind of thing..have like terrorists and good guys.  You should fight for regions and and defend pushs from the enemy into controlled areas.  I am looking forward to see how this is going to play out and I can't wait really.

I'll share what I imagine when it comes to a CoD MMOG... mind you, this is just what I think, not what's true, so bear with me...

I'm sure they'd probably go by faction, and then by which military force you want to be in, but I'll concentrate on the US Army.

Starting off, you perhaps select your background. If you grew up on a farm, you're a bit tougher, and you can carry more since your farm work required you to carry more than the average person usually does; as such, you can carry more armor and weaponry and the like. If you grew up with an affinity in engineering, you're more in touch with technology, and as such you're more knowledgeable, and can get the most out of the various gadgets, such as radios and satellite communication; as such, you are able to repair vehicles quicker and your radar is able to track things farther away because you fiddled with it. If your daddy was a gun nut, you're more accurate with your gun, your gun jams less often, and recoil is lessened.

Next, you go into basic training. You are lined up, yelled at, subjected to various training courses. All of these are designed to test you and analyze you into what field you should be pursuing. Once tested, you graduate to an Advanced Individual Training (AIT) course. These will be your class "trainers", and you will learn directly from them what it takes to be the best in your field, so that you aren't a detriment to your team in the midst of battle.

Of course, your uniform and medals will reflect your current standing as well as your accomplishments.

After all the training stuff, I'm not sure. Perhaps they'll do something like MAG, where you're immediately assigned to a certain platoon the moment you join a battle. Or maybe they'll run you through a series of instanced missions, such as "Attack the enemy's position here and secure the area" or "Plant an explosive here and detonate it when ordered" or "Secure enough information that our allies on the battlefield will know where the enemy is".

They won't probably include any intelligence "classes", but it's just wishful thinking on my part.

    Just no.

IW needs to staff up to fix the mess of a game they currently have on their hands.  MW2.

Console kiddies love the game.  Good for them.

The PC players were kicked in ..... Well, anyway.  The game was way too watered down for PC.  As I posted elsewhere, teams are too small, game lenghts are too short, not enough options for game play, without dedi-servers 'lag', hackers, etc.,.. 90% of these issues could be resolved with dedi servers.  The other 10... game mods.

I like how FPS games are now, for the most part.  I load the game, I play the game.  I log in, pick up a gun, and I can 1 shot someone.  Even playing field, for the most part.  No need to grind.

I don't want to have to raid for my 'epic M16' then my 'epic ammo' in my 'epic heroic hummer' in my epic body armor and my epic MRE recipe for buffs.

I can see it now... as a sniper, I have my scope on someone's head.  I fire.  I hit.  It does 0 dmg.  The enemy player bubbles, summons their heroic A-10, flies 1/2 mile directly to me, jumps out, stun's me, and then shoots me in the foot.  I die.  Their gear score way out does mine, so I will more than likely die from a fatal gunshot would to the foot... while my .50 cal round to their epic helm did nothing.

    No thanks.

Wouldn't mind seeing a CoD set in their original series of WWII.  But if they have vehicles, I hope they do a better job of implementing them than the simple hit boxes and HP system they had in their shoebox games.

I'll pass on a Modern Warfare version.

    Inevitable.

I've been asking for something along these lines since AoC was released, I discovered the combat interface wasn't all I'd hoped it would be and then I subsequently played COD4 online for about 6 months solid.

I think the 'traditional' one-button-FTW style MMOs have had their day. WoW has taken this style of MMO about as far as it can go (and by the looks of things, even Blizzard realises this). The only new options left are crappy gimmicks (flying, anyone?), everything else is just incremental improvements like better quests, graphics, scale, etc. One of the few games of this type I'm really looking forward to is GW2 coz I think they can nail it and get all possible improvements into one game. Oh and a couple of F2Ps look good too, but I think the WoW-style MMO genre will go that way eventually.

Most of the games I'm looking forward to - see my sig for details - are similar in proposition to this: FPS mechanic (i.e. skill-based with pace), MMO environment (i.e. depth and longevity). I know none of this is new but I'm guessing technology has moved on enough to allow this kinda thing to be viable.

Oh, and GA has the jump on this style of MMO by a mile... and I think it's a really good game. Still not that "MMO-ish" but it's a excellent step in the right direction given that we play these games for fun right, not because of what they're labelled?

    My thoughts exactly.

On the other hand, no matter the style, I imagine it will be a huge hit(just like MW2 was, even if it was a fiasco for me)because of the franchise. If the game is at least average, it will retain a huge number of players.

I see you like to Copy and paste this message in a bunch of Topics.

But back on topic, I'd personally like to see how well its done in a MMOG. Always enjoyed the CoD series so far.

Well...the PC version of Modern Warfare is overloaded with hackers and IW is extremely slow to fix the game. A MMO would be another hit-and-run game for IW....collect the money and laugh at the foolish users.

although COD:MW2 was a hit on the consoles, it didnt do so well on pc, IW does seem to be more console centric so im guessing that any MMO they have in mind/development, might well be console based. seriously though, I can't see IW being able to do it, from single player game to MMO is a huge leap, i just hope they have a plan firmly in mind, rather than $$ vision.

I think what we're all forgetting here (myself included, somewhat), is that this game has not been confirmed to be an RPG. All it has been said to be is an MMOG. That means that it's not been said that it's going to be an RPG. It could just be an MMOFPS, sort of along the lines of games like PlanetSide or MAG.

Yes Atomicles. I understand you completely.

I`m guessing that a COD MMO must have more ordinary game asset`s.

Basically something that no other MMO`s have.

Im thinking more consequence`s.  If  you lose in the game you lose hard!

Players would take it more serious not to lose or die. Makes the adrenaline kick !

Or els it just being COD. That is that you can die many time and still can lv up and upgrade your`e gear.

If ts war MMO fans wants in a COD environment  then it must have  consequence`s in the game in my opinion.

I don`t think that they would cop out stuff and just make an  ordinary MMOFPS.

I hope not. ! Yes it would be very disappointing!

If its true that they will make a MMO COD then they should have wish list only for MMO players.

"So they can think out side from the box."

The only time I enjoyed any CoD game was WaW, and that was on hardcore mode when everyone would complain it takes no skill. I also tended to only play local on my 360 and not allow grenades, cause that's all people use damnit. Basically, if the MMO has hardcore servers, I'll play it, cause I don't want to have to shoot my enemy fifty times in the face in order to kill him.

I can see loot and gear being a very very important aspect of this game. Better get in early so you aren't left too far behind.

Frankly, after what happened w/ MW2, and Infinity's big F-U to the PC audience, I have no hopes for an MMO coming from them if this is indeed true. Sadly, even w/ Blizzard talent thrown in the mix, assuming that Blizzard's talent would be calling the shots, it's still such a vastly different type of game that I just don't see it being all that great. I'm willing to bet that the MMO Blizzard is currently working on is probably also going to take whatever decent ideas the Infinity guys come up with and make them better.
