Digital Deluxe Edition

BlurrBlurr Member UncommonPosts: 2,155

Now we all know there's a regular version of the game, and a Collector's Edition for those buying a boxed copy. The CE comes with a bunch of neat stuff.

But for those of us who will be buying a digital copy of the game, is there no collector's edition? Turns out yes! There will be a Digital Deluxe Edition available through the online retailers. Bonuses included with the DDE are as follows:

  • Original Star Trek Uniform Set:

Three uniforms from the original series (blue, red, yellow).

  • Exclusive "KHAAAN!" Emote:

An unforgettable moment from the second Star Trek Film. This exclusive emote allows players to relive Kirk’s unforgettable moment of fury, with the timeless cry… “KHAAAN!”

  • Exclusive Klingon Blood Wine Toast Emote:

Raise a glass like a Klingon! Greet other players with an exclusive Klingon gesture –the blood wine toast.

  • Unique Registry Prefix:

Give your ship the coveted NX prefix, seen only on a handful of elite Starfleet vessels like the Defiant, 22nd century Enterprise, and Prometheus.

  • Unique Ship Item:

Automated Defense Battery. This Tactical Module grants any ship a passive 360 arc attack power with a short range.

  • Joined Trill Race:

The ability to play as a “Joined Trill” – a symbiote that grants you several lifetimes of experience.

This will be in addition to any bonuses you get from the retailer itself such as from preorders (like the personal shield from Direct2Drive). Presumably this version will be available to both Steam and Direct2Drive.

You will be able to have both this and the CE stuff on the same account if you buy a copy of each and put both of the full retail cdkeys on the same account.

Evidence found here and here.

I just ordered the regular version from Direct2Drive three days ago. I have to see if they will let me upgrade.

They are just throwing all the extras at people who buy this game. They really, really want people to buy a copy. Stuff like this sets of warning bells for me and I have to wonder what their game is.

Edit: People should avoid the lure of all these extras and just wait till they are available in the cash shop. Everyone knows that each and every one of these extras will be purchasable a short while after the game is released anyway.

Also, what's with Cryptic putting essential parts of the Star Trek universe into collector's editions and stuff? God forbid people get to use their favourite uniforms or have a character like their favourite Star Trek character. But I guess greed is far better than delivering a fun game experience.

  • BlurrBlurr Member UncommonPosts: 2,155

Wow Xondar, really packing it in with the lies lately eh?

Throwing extras at people? Except that it's pretty much in line with what they did for Champions, which is also similar to what they did with CoH. People like free unique goodies. They're not the first ones to do this, and they won't be the last.

Available in the cash shop? Sorry but so far NONE of the extras provided by the different versions of Champions have been added to the cash shop. In fact, the way the developers speak of the various exclusive bonuses, they will likely NEVER be added to the cash shop. So there's another of your lies disproven.

Also I hate to burst your bubble but people put exclusive goodies in Collector's Editions all the time. It's an industry standard practice. Anyone who really wants the uniforms that badly will not have a problem  paying an extra few dollars to achieve the status symbol. The idea is also to make those people unique and give them something special that not just anyone can have. It's a reward.

Im with Xondar on this one.

They are just trying to sell as many boxes as possible. They know this game will be as disapointing as Champions Online, so they need to make their money from box sales. Subscriptions will drop fast.

Ever wonder why we still have so many questions about the game? If they give away too much up front, no one wil buy it.

I am a bit concerned with the lack of Klingon faction stuff. Most of the things I read about seem applicable only to Feds. What about Klingon specific things (beside this whine)?

My guess is that the Klingon faction will be very underdeveloped at launch as very little info has been released about them and this 2 months from release? Not good....

I for one will not buy this game if the Klingons are not fleshed out more. Never liked the Feds much and I dont play as them.

I agree that this is of course an attempt to make as much money as possible for fear of failure, but I'd also like to point out that this is an MMORPG. On top of that, there are no elves or dwarves included. It only makes sense that a company which won't really turn a profit until they have maintained a good-sized subscription base for an extended period will want to break even as fast as they possibly can. Cryptic may be one of the bigger MMORPG developers, but that isn't saying much in the world of game design and they are still competing with the Walmart of MMO Developers.

Now if this was a single-player game offering in-game items for an extra cost prior to launch I'd be suspicious, but for an MMORPG this is just par for the course.

What makes you think that this applies to STO?

    LOL "Khan emote."  Oh man.

How about a Picard "Engage" gesture?   You might have something there.

I agree with Xonder.  I'm having a hard time thinking of another launch that offered so many "buy now, please" incentives.  Very curious.

It's a sign of desperation, and also content which players are going to want once they have seen them in-game (by which time it will be unavailable).

The TOS material would appeal to me (if I was planning on playing the game), but I refuse to pre-order anything. Are they really going to tell players who join the game a year from now, "sorry, but the TOS perks aren't available to you. You should have bought the game before you even heard of it." All of these perks are content which should be available in-game. It's an insult to the players to pull these tricks on them.

I'm with you there.  I admit to a bit of temptation - USS Versailles, Constitution class, with uniforms to boot?   I'm drooling down chin.

But what does it say when the only reason a fan like me might consider this game is the pixal paint,  not gameplay or features?

You guys do realize that these offers are a 50/50 deal with the retailers, right?

Retailers often ask for some unique exclusive bonus to give their customers in order to convince more people to pick them instead. Gamestop particularly seems to try and do this with just about every game. Retailers want the exclusive items, Cryptic wants to give players something for preordering, done deal. Who loses? Nobody.

If you don't want the bonuses, don't preorder or buy a specific version of the game. It's not rocket surgery. Let the people who want this stuff have it. To be angry about this is rediculous and childish.

Sorry to burst your bubble, but Cryptic already said that they probably would eventually add all the the pre-order items to the cash shop.  http://www.startrekonline.com/preorder-faq

Actually, they said "we MAY offer" , not probably. Considering they haven't done it yet for CO, and it took something like 2+ years for it to happen in CoX, the best we can guess is years down the road, if ever. (There's another quote also from a dev stating that they will likely never add the exclusives to c-store, as I mentioned.

Sorry to bump a month old thread but just wanted to chime in and say I bought this version last night.  Plus the secret code you posted about Blurr I think I got my money's worth on this game on which version I decided to buy.

Pretty excited for it to start.

Same here - just bought it a couple of days ago.

As sad as it sounds, I think the TOS uniforms ended up being the deciding factor.  Yeah, I'm old.

I'm tempted not only by the Digital Deluxe only items... but also w/ the Steam version offering that steam exclusive away team armor.

Still I do agree w/ most posters that this could turn out to be a trick, and we may end up w/ nothing exclusive... most games have me cynical these days.

if youre gonna spend extra, i think the game stop ce with preorder has the best goodies.  full digital deluxe with in person goodies like com badge and fancey box and books.  along with a special cruiser in game, uniforms, trill race ect ect.  im gonna go that way myself, i feel the nerd taking over, and i like it.

Actually the Collectors Edition and the Digital Deluxe Edition are two different versions.

Ingame, the CE gives you a red matter capacitor (occasional boost to your systems energies), the DS9 series and TNG movie-version uniforms.

Ingame, the DDE gives you TOS series uniforms, Joined Trill race, two emotes (Khaaan! and bloodwine toast), NX- registry prefix (designating an experimental ship), and an automated defense battery (360 degree turret with short range).

Of the two, I'd say the DDE is better. Though it depends if you want the hard copy with out of game items or not. (Or one of the hard copy preorder items)

I ordered the DDE version from direct2drive to get the Trill Traits and TOS uniforms but i also ordered the amazon version so I can get the borg and ds9 uniforms and a boxed copy.

Best thing is game time stacks! so I will get 60days playtime too.

That's so tempting. I wanted the borg. I didn't know if she did anything or not so I went with the DDE. Does she do anything or just walk around?

from what I understand she is a full crew member complete with her own borg technology and skills. Personally I'm broke so I just picked up the wal-mart regular version which if I am correct (about the percentage) gives you 40% more skill points at creation.
