Before I buy this game I really only how 2 questions.
1.) How hard it is to gain skills and level ups (I know there are no level-ups)? WIll this game take months for a really casual gamer to be able to compete in high end PvP?
2.) Has the UI and Controls been fixed / improved? What do you guys think of them?
Guild Wars - Rorick Aurlith E/Mo pumped up with the best armor and weapon, has all his skills, and runes. PvP King!
Dark Age of Camelot - Leaton 50 Vampiir - Lamorak - Guild: Magic and Mayhem!

1. Gaining skills isn't that hard. Stats are slow though. To compete in high-end PvP (which I'm assuming means against high stat/skill players 1v1) will definitely take months. If you are part of a larger group and fighting others, it'll take less time to make a difference.
2. Depends on what you think needs fixing. There are still some things about the UI that bother me, but overall it's not bad. It takes some getting used to, that's for sure. The first few hours of play for me were mainly trying not to get killed by goblins and figuring out the UI.

1: Training skills is alot faster now, you can go from 1-50 in one day in pretty much any skill. As said before if you mean 1v1 PvP against a vet then it'll take some months to get your char right and learn to fight. For group PvP within one month you can make a difference and you can participate from day one.
2: I think the UI is fine, though many seem to piss and moan about it on the forums. However whenever a game is released you're garunteed several "Horrible UI" posts, I'm certain this comes from people who've only played WoW QQing because it isn't WoW's UI.
"Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience"

100. You can learn mastery of some skills at 75, which usually translates into slightly more damage dealt (fighting), less time to perform a task (harvesting) or longer duration (food/spell buffs).

You can get a good enough pvp character in a couple of months. Sure it depends on how much you'll be playing. If it's gonna be like 10 hours per week then it'll take longer. I'd say 20 hours or more would be optimal.
But it much more depends on what kind of player you are. If you're a Counter-Strike god then in a couple of months you'll be able to kill 80% (or even more) of DFO players 1 vs 1...
