Darkfall: Significant Player Model & Armor Upgrades Coming!

MikeBMikeB Community ManagerAdministrator RarePosts: 6,555

The Darkfall art team is hard at work on improvements to the game's player models and armor sets that are sure to excite Darkfall fans!

In an announcement made by Darkfall Community Liason "Laenih" on the official Darkfall forums, details on the upcoming improvements were laid out along with an example image of what players can expect.

More below:

What we were shown are upgrades to both player models and armor.

Not only are all the armors and player models either being improved or completely redone, they also informed us that new armor models are being added.

The Gandalf wannabes might be delighted to hear that this also includes adjustments to robe models and special new caster armor they are working on.

Of course this overall update to the player models will also include new faces, general details and new and additional hairdos for all your customization needs.

Henning particularly mentioned that they are planning on giving special attention to certain races in terms of character models.

They also assured us that the updates are being done while being in direct contact with the programmers to ensure that the playability remains optimal.

And as mentioned, that is only glimpse of things they are going to surprise you with this year. They were generous enough to provide us with an impression of the new leather armor and full plate in progress.

So, in short, players can expect new faces, hairdos, and other general details, along with caster specific robes and armor.

Laenih also stresses that these additions and optimizations are being done with the game's performance in mind, so those worried about increased lag due to the snazzy changes should be at ease.

View the original announcement here.

What do you guys think of the new armor sets? Pretty slick? Or meh?

    Good news thanks.

I think they look pretty good, no complaints from me. I would have preferred to see an animation upgrade personally, but I welcome any kind of graphic upgrades.

    Good, it was needed.

Some better animations would be appreciated too, maybe with a motions suit like TOR and AoC uses, that always look great.

Nice that they are upgrading stuff like this :)

Yeah, people still play it. It's honestly not that bad. I personally don't dig the spastic movement system, the terrible GMs, and the lack of variability in equipment, but hey, at least they are working on things.

Also, the game isn't first-person only. Melee weapons switch you to a third-person view.

The character models and animations are one of the biggest reason why I wont try DF so thats a step in the right direction.

Sadly the awfull community (aka religouse fantaics) and the lack of interesting lore or PvE content is still there.

    If WoW = The Beatles
    and WAR = Led Zeppelin
    Then LotrO = Pink Floyd

I've been playing for near 4 months, and I am not aware of this awful community that you mention. I'm also still having a blast with PVE after all this time. The lore could certainly use a boost though.

I hate to say it, but, ive become a graphic Ho of sorts, if they can make better looking characters and help in the animation i might even give it a try ..   but ive never been a huge fan of anyone can kill anyone games .. i'd prefure more than 2 factions actually , 2 just isnt enough .. 3 or more would make for a good game .. its nice to know that a few are not going to kill u, instead of will they or wont they in my book .. .   just my opinion nothing more ... i know the game has races but it still doesnt keep them from trying to kill you even when they are the same race.

I have no idea where the "religious fanatatics" thing came from. If anything, the community is overly critical on the game. Go look at the forums, you see people tearing into it. That's how stuff gets fixed. Take off the hate goggles.

I'm not playing DF and wouldn't consider myself being a fan, but the pace at which they pump out game improvements is awesome. I'm happy for the players and developers.

In the DF-forum there is the same picture in higher resolution. Graphical-wise, i find the new armor way above AoC quality level -which was so far accepted as being the highest standard. I really hope they manage to get the animations up to the same level.

If AV sorts out some balancing issues and keeps on improving the game at this pace, i can see a population shift within 6-12 month from AoC to DF (at least regarding the pvp folks).

Watch it, this game is a runner up and gaining weight fast. That's great, because the genre needs it.

That's some really nice armor.  I can't wait to see what they come up with for character models.

    THIS IS GREAT!!!

Personally i'm close to never having heard of darkfall HA!! Of course i've seem some screenies and the articles here of course tho.

IT was kinda smart that tehy kinda rushed the game out so at least t hey have some sort of community building. All game improvements and changes are possible while teh gmae is out.. And the fact that they are fixing character graphics is a good thing. Blizz can learn from this. Blizz seems to think the players deserves better graphics with each expansion zone. Doesnt work that way -.- . Blizz should at least revamp starting zones, and some lov lvl zones and low lvl armor. All the vanilla stuff needs ar redesign. At least a retxture such as undead getting full shoes. The rips suck. Ok sorry enough about blizz and hooray for DARKFALL!!! GOing to have to try this out. I keep getting this game confused with Fallen Earth.

I've never played Darkfall, mostly because I have never seen a  free trial for it, but I applaud them for this. I wish more companies would go back and revamp graphics to improve them and keep the game fresh. I wish them success.

I'm glad they're upgrading character models, but the game world isn't that shnazzy and I think it needs some work too :-/

If anything, I think the character models were pretty cool, I just wasn't too fond of the land quality. Haven't played in a while so I might be thinking of old news.
