New game.. This is hard.

SylarX1SylarX1 Member Posts: 81

Hey all. I'm sorry if I made too many posts, but I still haven't made my desicsion yet.

I have tried a few games up till now:

FE,WoW,AoC,WaR,LoTRO, and several others to mention.

I need a new MMO, while waiting for the bigger releases (FFXIV and SWTOR), althought it MUST BE ptp - i hate ftp.

I checked out GA - Looks "promising" but I find it a normal FPS game, online, with a feature to pay for few mmo features.. 0 PvE which is what I like.

I already made a thread, you might remember, about STO it turned in a big discussion, but yes I'm not fan of the IP so thats no choice - I think - Make a good argument and I might concider, if the IP aint that importmant:

What needs to be in a MMO, I think?

PvE - I love PvE content.

PVP - Gotta be there, or purely - just not GA likewise, I might check it out, come with arguments etc and I'll think about it.

Community - I know this is hard to ask for, but not really chilidsh game like WoW.

- I checked out MO, but sounds like there's a lot of haters. And it doesn't sound so good from my first impression, again if you can come with a good argument, I might try it.

I*M DESPRETATELY IN NEED OF A MMO - I CANT LIVE WITHOUT!

This explains everything. I need a MMO, that's gotta be released in the next months, or ALREADY released.

I'm up for Post-apocalypse,Sci-fi,Fantasy - everything to be exact.

Your dear SylarX.

Please, don't flame me for asking again.

I know this isn't the answer you were looking for, but I was kinda in your same situation and I just decided to not play anything until some new games come out.  Particularly waiting for FFXIV, SWTOR and GW2.  I was just burning myself out going from trial to trial and then I finally realized there was no point really in trying to play one of these games when I know I will quit when the new ones come out.

That's not an option for me. I NEED a MMO to play, while waiting for these games. Might be a year or half before one or the other gets oout but i need something to play in the meantime ( MMO must ) so come with some games that goes under my restictions..

ONE MROE THING - I t needs to have a okay population, nothing like Vanguard or something. Just pretty okay. Not just so low.

If your up for anything than try Champions Online, a lot of the major reviews recommend it as fun for at least the first free month, but just that it lacked lasting appeal (getting to cap takes 100-160 hours, the end game is grind, so unless you are like me an enjoy making alts in this open build classless system it will be a finite game).  The engine is recent so the graphics make use of modern hardware and the combat is faster and more responsive compared to e.g. AoC.

Edit: it is mostly pve but there is arena pvp that is populated enough to queue all day and night (unified server), the game is only 10$ with first month included, there is a very short free demo of the first 45 minutes, and in-game pop ranges from 2000 to 10,000 activey logged in at a time, the range is from this last month.

Cryptic is trying a Customer Development approach to MMO creation.

DAOC. its that good. play it. old school, PVE, PVP, community, it's got it all

MO is currently borked, but I'm hoping they fix it very soon.

STO, can't wait for beta tomorrow. will be my first time trying it!!!

EQ2, heavy on PVE, light on PVP. though i can say my PVP experience in EQ2 was limited, but good (maybe because i was a stealth class and i easily killed some squishies :) the community is generally pretty good. watch out for Highwire though, he'll blow your mind (just put him on ignore)

TCOS. interesting combat, graphics, PVE and PVP. currently completely free to play while the developers work out some kinks and prepare for a bigger launch. i suggest trying it

Darkfall? looks like Aventurine is heading in the right direction with their "masterpiece," light on PVE, heavy PVP, community is full of PVPers who like to talk a lot of smack, which I find to be entertaining reading material while crafting and gathering

GA has PvE, in the form of 4 player instanced dungeons which are easy up until the boss. Everyone plays recon, however, which I hate with a passion because they can sit and snipe and when you decide to fire at them, boom, they turn around, turn invisible, jump off the building and they're gone.

    ...I play support.

The MMO features are just a huge grid where AGENCIES, not factions fight for territory persistently.

Honestly, I'm enjoying the hell out of Global Agenda and it's fast-action gameplay style, but that's just me. I love that it's technically an MMO but made it balanced in a sense that there are NO headshots and you have to lead your target if you expect to hit it. Realistic bullet travel times.

Another game I'm playing at the moment is Mortal Online. It's largely incomplete but has some of the most difficult PvE of any game. There are literally enemies that will pick you up and bash you into the ground until you die. Also has a cool taming concept, as well as being largely PvP based, having guards you can call to kill anyone attacking you when you're in a town, etc, etc. It's pretty hardcore, starting is rough and I've met some UO vets in-game that love it and say it's a lot like UO pre-Trammel, in the sense that it has immaculate amounts of freedom. So much freedom, in fact, that it's hard to tell wtf you're supposed to do at first. It shows a lot of promise and even has an in-depth bloodline system and the ability to choose your age and everything. If you're an Elder Scrolls fan by any chance, this is the closest you'll get to a TES MMO, as well as the closest you'll get to a UO revival. City building and razing are planned additions later, which should be fun. Can't wait for the sieges. ;)

Honestly, I'd stay away from Darkfall...too much forced PvP in a game that claims to be sandbox.

Afterworld is a pretty cool game as well and it's basically the free version of Darkfall in a more sci-fi post-apocalyptic setting. There's PvE but mostly it's based on PvP and a more in-depth-than-DF crafting system. It's got a much different focus, however. It's got older looking graphics, but overall I found the gameplay more immersive and less shoddy. It does cost real money to do a lot of things, as it's a free-market economy, but pay around $20-30 and craft everything yourself, only to sell it to others for real money, and you'll be pretty much set for the whole time you play. Other than citizenship fees ($10), it costs around .01 AWD (in-game real money currency) to do most things.

Otherwise, just check out this thread.

EDIT: I hear bad things about STO being even more casual than WoW and you having to "corkscrew" up and down in space, rather than free movement on the Y-axis in space. I also hear you're forced to play captain and you command your own ship and there are NO player composed crews.

I also would stay away from SWTOR. It's been confirmed that it will play a lot like Dragon Age: Origins and will have an optional multiplayer aspect, of which will be composed of small squads of players, meaning you'd be playing monthly for a game like Guild Wars, which should be B2P. If they add an item mall, I swear if they charge box fees or monthly fees or both, as well, the game will flop hard.

Ok, first of all - regarding SWTOR, no I don't think it will be like that. Yes, it will play like Dragon Age (Voice-Cover, Dialogue) the leveling part, will be mostly solo yes. but endgame will be not be like you're saying. i think it will be a PTP game, if they make it the other way around, they completely fail . Most people are wanting PTP, and endgame mmo style, and they do that. Anyways

Regarding Global Agenda. I watched a few videos, and it looks really nice. only thing I'm worried about:

Will it feel like a MMORPG to me? Or will it feel like a upgraded version of TF2 or CSS just with a few mmo aspects? I don't want to pay a monthly fee for it not to be MMO (yes you can choose NOT to pay, but then there's no mmo aspects)

But really. I'm mostly a PvE guy, so i'm having a hard time seeing myself playing Global Agenda.

AoC 's PVE is fucked. I did everything. Lotro just wasn't me.

I can't see any game right now that I can play /cry..

EQ2 maybe? I don't know. Come with some arguments, I need some.

I know you said no F2P but I think you should try DDO since its very different from other F2P games and you can pay monthly if you like.

Great PvE content (all instanced thou) fast combat, deep character custimization  and a big, friendly community.

The next update will also bring some great things like a new "casual" difficulty on quests, removal of Leveling sigils (now you need to get a sigil for every 4 levels) and some new free quests for higher levels.

    If WoW = The Beatles
    and WAR = Led Zeppelin
    Then LotrO = Pink Floyd

  • SylarX1SylarX1 Member Posts: 81

DDO doesn't really appeal to me. And yes, i hate FTP (I know its diffrent, checked it out, aint me) i need a PTP game.

So far EQ2 is on the top of the list. But i'm unsure, since its such a old game (Doesn't make it bad) but something flesh like STO would be nice too, althought i hears so much bad about STO and it might only be for the IP. But what do I know.

Try Spellborn. I don't care if you hate F2P, hear me out. The game was P2P from launch up until around August. Currently the game is in limbo and completely free to play, no strings attached, every last bit of content, in a P2P quality game, while they decide what they're going to do with the game and simply do it.

...and after writing out a long and arduous post and another smaller one...of course all that gets listened to is the part trashing SWTOR and the part about GA.

...why do I bother anymore...? -_-'

    Anyways, have fun in EQ2!

Hehe, i'm really sorry mate. But you helped me through, seriously.

The other thread turned into a big discussion, but you made me realize, that GA is too PVP for me, and i got people saying Eq2 and i checked it out, it will be it.

You didn't waste your time helping me.

Really, I thank you a lot. You saved my pocket, if you get me.

     Heh, aight.

Yeah, I meant no offense. Simply that I'm the big "indie" dude everywhere I go, so I waste large amounts of thought on deaf ears frequently, if you know what I mean. ;)

Just gets a bit tiring after a while.

    Glad I helped though. ^^

I get you indeed. But I'm not depth ears, I read every word you wrote and I took it all to me.

So again, that made me choose Eq2, when you told of aspects from these games etc.

Anyways, keep doing what you're doing. but yes, there is people out there, who doesn't even listen when they ask for help.

You are so right, this is very hard.  I have been burning through trials for the last two weeks.  I quit Wow, after playing only that for 2 years.  The look here first thread has been very helpful,  yet I am still looking.  Its hard to find a balanced game, something with pvp, pve, crafting, and enough content and diverstity to keep one from getting bored in a few days. I wish Blizzards customer service was not so disappointing, I would still be playing Wow.  If anyone has any suggestions of something that is kinda like that, I would welcome ideas.  Thanks for a great site and forum.

  • SylarX1SylarX1 Member Posts: 81

Well, EQ2 got all that, not so much PvP, but PvE, crafting etc. I just started, on trial, but will buy when im home from vacation..

Only 20$, then you get ALL the expansions, + some extra goodies (3 adventure packs) etc.. 60 Days playtime aswell.

    Thats god damn cheap.
