IMHO some better panel 24" full hd res monitor would retain it's value much better. I bought dell 2407wfp almost 4 years ago, it still does very well on comparison against best monitors at market.

youve mentioned these monitors having bad panels twice now.  Ive set up 6 so far as of today, they look superior in every way to the 22 inch dell ultrasharps we dual screen with

so where do you get this information?

Apparently you can't trust your own eyes cuz the internet says TFT is always superior to TN panels lol. :P

I think the issue is, according to Wikipedia the same TN panels on a manufacturing line vary widely in quality, and that day's low quality TN panels get sold off to value vendors while the high quality get sold for gaming monitors.

I'd suspect most TN panels reviewed are value or mainstream TN panels and not that great. The ones that make it into the 120Hz Samsung are gonna be high end TN panels.

TFT panels probably have the same exact process.. so a high end TN panel might be superior to a low end TFT panel and equal to a mid TFT panel but still not as good as a high end TFT panel. But those are like twice the price.

The Samsung may also have taken other steps to improve quality like using better backlights, that the TFT panel isn't. I don't think it's as simple as saying 'tft rules tn sucks'.. I think it's more important to read the individual monitor review.

ok, so none of this is first hand experience.  just a bunch of google researches reading way too much into it.  When someone says a monitor has bad panels, I take that to mean theyre defective.. not sub-par to what happens to be the best of the best.

    thanks for clearing it up.

Oh, yea my only first hand experience is seeing the price tag on IPS panels. My goal is to get 2 more panels this summer. No way I can afford that if they're spendy IPS ones.. hard to even justify cheaper TN ones.

The point (and the fact) is that Twisted Nematic panel (TN) can never achieve good colors or good viewing angles cause of the technology it uses. It's a relic of first lcd monitors and should have get rid of long time ago.

Trusting your own eyes is pretty pointless too if the monitors aren't calibrated. Besides, 95% of people don't even know how judge overall image quality of monitor, most will just choose better the one which uses higher contrast setting.
