So, when will a real "open" beta happen?

Paid beta is not open beta. When will they test the "massive" part of their product?

They did several months ago with a few hundred people and the server came to it's knees.
Don't hold your breath about the massive. As much as I hate to say it, DnF at launch probably had more subs then this game will ever have.
Oh I don't know about that. If the game survives through the first six months and manages to smooth at more features and introduce others then it should grow, even if slowly.
Even Eve had a super rocky release and it's now the most successful sandbox out there.
Only time will tell on this one. I would strongly advise against buying this game until it releases and more info about it's released state is out there.
What? Misinformation much? There was no open-beta yet. And several months ago? You mean day 1 of beta the server came to its knees? Yikes!
It was announced there would be an open-beta a couple weeks before launch. That time is fast approaching unless there is another delay. We will see.

Server has had many problems, it can barely stand around 400 concurrent connections at a time without lagging out. Just think, 400 people making houses, grinding skills, making weapons, killing mobs, etc. Once this open beta actually opens up to people that are interested (since most of the people from block A don't play the game anymore due to the slow progression) the server is going to die every 10 seconds and will be forced to restart constantly, while they only restart the server while they are in the office.
People who think that the open beta will not have server crashes every 10 seconds are in denial. 1000s of people trying to connect when they are only use to few hundred is going to kill their server. (Don't even want to think how slow their patch server is going to be)
O and releasing an open beta where you are forced to download the game via utorrent is unprofessional. At least other open beta tests have fileplanet links, etc. And if they release the game where you have to get it from a 3rd party torrent... well.... its pretty unprofessional IMO
Star Vault has announced that there will be open beta before release. The date is not yet set to stone so stay tuned, it wont be long now. About lag and such things, come see for yourself, don't let the forum warriors depress you
