Star Trek

O boy just to my suprise this game will be another linear bore fest im sick of these company going in the wrong direction with mmo's. I DONT WANT TO START OUT AS A SHIP CAPTAIN. I just want to be in the world and forge my own destiny in game. I want that freedom instead of these damm games holding your hand. here start off on home planet have a social aspect on planet do quests join the federation become a trader build a house then if u want get a ship explore the galaxy. I want an mmo that is based in a living and breathing world where the players live in it and go where no man has gone before if they freaking want to. Star trek could have been an epic sandbox mmo if done right but hey these companys just want to make a quick buck and not do something that will be around for years to come. Look at eve online (im not a fan) but having freedome in an mmo keeps it interesting and people stay bottomline.

I find it interesting that individuals become upset for reasons like this.  I have been following the release for some time, and I had never thought that the game was going to move towards a sandbox style MMO.  I believe that Cryptic will deliver an unpolished experience that we can expect from the many trailers and reviews that we have seen.  To be upset that the game is not something that it was never intended to be is a waste of time in my opinion.  I hope that we get a good playable game that we can expand on for years to come.

Just FYI, posting the same thing in different threads doesn't make it any more correct.

Also, companies aren't going in the "wrong" direction, they're going in the "profitable" direction as lot more people buy theme park games than sandbox games.  There is no "right" and "wrong" when it comes to people's taste, it's like saying that it "wrong" for companies to be making Sci-Fi games when they could be making Fantasy or vice versa.  Anyhow, you can see the rest of my response in the other thread where you posted this as I don't really want to chase you down and re-create threads.

*Sigh* this again. Look, Open Beta starts today. Why don't you go and get yourself a beta key, download and install the client and then see the game for yourself. Then if you still feel this way after actually trying the game come back here and bitch all you want(Try and play for more than 10 minutes also). Your opinion would carry a lot more weight if it had some personal experience behind it instead of you just spouting off about what you *think* the game is like.

you don't start as a ship captian... you start as an ensign and work your way up to admiral...  have you even read anything about the game?  I would suggest you go there and read up on Genesis also before posting this garbage.

ok maybe i get a little crazy but even tho u start out as captain of a ship in eve is not the point.Im trying to show u that sandbox mmo"s last longer than thempark ones . I already know what Star Trek the new Starwars are all about and trust me its not a real mmo experiance they hold your hand and yes u will win. I understand profit however IMO sandbox has a longer lifespan then themparks its a fact the few sandbox mmo's that are out there are still growing u cant say that for thempark mmo's. I played the old swg before it became a thempark mmo and look at it now its dyeing WAr (lossing subs) Aion(losing subs) Aoc(hurt bad but the devs really are trying) themparks get boring fast sandbox mmo Darkfall(growing) Eve(growing) Mortal online(looks promising)

Then go play Darkfall, Eve and Mortal Online.I'm not even going to waste my time with your STO and TOR comparison because it is obvious you have done zero research on these two games. But I will say that there is a thread on the STO forums specifically devoted to fans of the old SWG and they are all looking forward to this game. Guess not everyone that was a fan of that game agrees with you.

Not to mention that all of the *dieing* games he mentioned have had other major issues and there declining subs have nothing to do with them being theme parks.

I found it interesting that he brought up Darkfall because I have read nothing but negativity on that game from people who have played it. They say the community is probably the worse of any MMO, the game is full of bugs and there is little content available. Not to mention that when you die you lose everything and have to start all over again. It's defintely a game for the hardcore PVP. No wonder their subs are low.  Not the best example IMO of a "great" game when trying to knock another one.

They've been following the game for a year. They know exactly what the game is about. They won't be suprised by anything that will make them leave. Maybe if you actually spent time at the STO forums you would know this.
U shouldnt attack me for giving my opinion
You call THAT an attack? You don't go pissing in a gaming forum and not expect a retort. Welcome to the world of internet forums.
I know im right and u will see a true oldtimer from swg will tyr this in desperation but will soon quit because sto will never be a sandbox mmo
Wrong again. I played SWG through all its incarnations. It wasn't all that. You sound like someone who is still bitter over the SWG experience and thinks every game should try and mimic it. It won't happen.
THATS A FACT O as far as reasearch trust me i do my homework i read between the lines i know what these game will be and trust me im upset about it but the truth is the truth
Ah that explains a lot. But I will give some free advice. Starting multiple threads and posts with the same type of jargon is spamming. Just so you know.
