Just last week CCP Games announced that EVE Online had surpassed its previous PCU (peak concurrent user) record of 54,181 users with the new record of 54,446. Today, we have learned EVE Online has broken its new record with 56,021 users.

EVE Online has been around for some time, but it is clearly still continuing to grow.
What are your thoughts on EVE's future? Let us know in the comments below.

I started a couple of months ago and it's probably the deepest, most all around game out there atm. I think it will continue to grow because there's nothing out there that deep. The issue I have is that I think DUST won't be for PC, only console. If that's the case, they could lose some subscribers down the road. I hope I'm wrong and it does come out for PC because it looks like it will be fun.

Keep it going CCCP Its really good to see a game florish and not crumble (like most mmo´s around...)
And does it matter if there is player with x account? Its a new record and be happy for it. Enough with all the negative and pointless analyzies ,if you dont mind.

It's nice but do we really need to make a news everytime +1 user beat the record, it's redundant.
My thoughts exactly.

Does this being news hurt you? Does it waste your time? I am pretty sure you wasted more time writing this^ than the news wasted.
yeah and it crashed the server for about 1 hour....great going.

EVE is indeed still growing, and with the upcoming Dust 514 for the console and the promised Walking-in-station (or whatever the current term is), it will continue to grow for years to come.
Addressing the concern of Zekiah that Dust 514 will take players away from EVE since it is a console only game, I see just the opposite happening. Players in Eve will want accounts down on the planets, and the console players will want to get up into space eventually, especially since what happens in each affects the other. Instead of losing players, there will be MANY players with accounts in both games, and the few who do actually switch will be far and away offset by the new players who try Dust and then move onto EVE with the afforementioned both-game accounts. If anything, the console-only approach to Dust was a smart strategic move and a stroke of genius (although I too would have liked to have had Dust on the PC).

I was expecting to see a PCU record during the free week of account re-activations, but this new record was set afterward and shows at least some of those people decided to stay.
It got nothing to do with the amount of unique players there is in the game, but how many accounts can be online at a time on a single server.

so, if a person has (just a number) 20 accounts and log on at the same time, then other 100 people have the same number of accounts. 101 X 20 = 2020 accounts on at the same time. So what does that prove? People who have too much money and no better way to spend it? Like send those extra money to Haiti to help people who are in need?
why pay for games at all then? All it is, is just entertainment for people who have a little extra money. That 15$ a month could sponser like 15 kids. Not to mention the 60$ box charge, think of all the people in haiti that could help!!

It proves that you will go to any end with the most ridiculous numbers possible to prove your point... whatever that point is.

- FPS Quiz - how well do you know your shooters?

If you are going to use a made up example to prove a point at least make it a realistic one!
Also concerning the number of multi account users [such as the one in your example] it was shown some time ago that about 16% of the EvE population were made up of Multi Account users [some time ago so percentage is likely off].
Besides why does it matter? after all they are all paying accounts and as time has shown the subscription numbers dont generely go down rather they go up.
Another great example of Moore's Law. Give people access to that much space (developers and users alike) and they'll find uses for it that you can never imagine. "640K ought to be enough for anybody" - Bill Gates 1981

Again, how about donate some extra money to help people in need that's the point.
Oh i see what you did there, you couldnt argue against my point [which was on-topic] so you changed your point to one you think you can win.

Dust514 is specifically aimed at people who dont play EVE, but who love the idea of being involved in EVE's intricate player politics, but who find the actual gameplay too slow for their tastes. Fair enough. As such, it's designed to be pretty much the polar opposite of EVE in as many was as possible - including its platform.

C'mon, everyone 'knows' EVE mulit-boxers don't pay for their accounts, they sell ISK for GTC's/Plex to fund them.
As to comments about people logging in all 20 of their accounts, rarely happens. I have 3 accounts, but will log in no more than 2 at any given moment. A corp mate of mine has like 10, but also only logs in 1 or 2 at any moment, just not productive to have them all open and actively doing something (unless you are macro mining which is a no no)

Every non-trial accout pays for their subscription. For everyone that pays for their subscription with Isk there is another who pays for the GTC to buy that Isk.
