Does DAOC have many people playing? I was thinking about buying it, but I don't want to spend the money, then come to some desolate land.
I liked Everquest Online Adventures on PS2, if I liked that, do you guys think that I would like this?
Does the platinum pack come with all expansions, or will I need to buy that and another pack to get them all?

There is around 250,000 people that play in the US and Europe. The game is not desolate, but at the same time it may seem empty to new players. Like most games that have been out for more than a year, the active population has decreased. So instead of playing 50 hours a week, a person will play 20. Then most people are so high level the starting areas look empty. There are complaints about getting groups below level 20.
Now with that said, you can play on the larger population servers. Those servers have a significant population of starting players and should make it easy to find a group. This week they are clustering the servers. This means that Frontier areas where the players fight will be merged between certain servers and you can teleport to the other server. This should make grouping much easier.
They are going to start a casual server for those that want to level fast but not play a lot.
They are redoing the start areas. They have added quests, tutorials, and other ways to make it easier for a starting character. They are relocating things to make the Capitals of each Realm more the center of activity. So if you start by the weekend things should be good for you.
The Platnium back will include the original game and two expansions. The latest expansion that came out in November you will need to purchase seperatly.
I was leveling my vampiir past 3 days from lvl 1 to 30 and found that there is nice numbers of low level players and not all are vampiirs and banshees. I dont know why but number of low level classes has incresed, maybe it was cus of veterans started to level new chars (but im not shure)
From Novemeber-March is usually when the most new people arive. It is when they get gifts, money, and have the most time. The amount of new characters below level 20 are mostly new players. Any playing below level 20 that already has a level 50 is only doing it because he/she got a friend into the game.
The game has done a lot of advertising. Some people do not want to play another SOE game, WoW is sold out, so where are you going to go? Further they have learned to play on the highest population servers. So all of those things have helped. On the lower population servers, I will see from 10-20 people below level 20. About 10 of them are not vamps I am sure on the highest population servers that number is 2-3 times that amount
My assumption is with all of this work put into the begining of the game and clustering, Mythic will be doing some advertising and other ways to attract a lot of new players to the game between now and summer.

Which FF Character Are You?
i think buying in dark age of camelot is . s h i t sorry for the word !!!
i love TIBIA...
tibianoob.net
lol @ you ahil. go an play tibia if you dont like daoc. DAoC was my second mmo ever, and i keep comming back. To me, it has to be the best mmorpg out there, and it is only getting better.
get the platinum pack for $19.99 and the expansion for $29.99 which all together is like 50 bucks, so it is like buying wow or eq2 new.
DAoC is definately a good buy.
It might seem boring at the beginning due to low counts of newbies with their /level command once you get a lvl 50 toon. But, as you progress down the road, things get more fun, especially RvR.
Looking for something new.
Most of the 'new' material being added is for low level players. If you get Catacombs is is extrmely easy to level. You can pretty much level just doing quests if you want.
There will be two free expansions this year. One will be for RvR which will among other things include RvR tasks. The second free expansion is going to redo the old areas. They have always upgraded the graphics for them with the expansion, but I believe for original and their first expansion are all going to be redone. All of that for free.
The servers have been clustered which makes RvR so much fun. Essentially during peak times there are more people now out in RvR than there will be in WoW once they add Battlegrounds. WoW will cap it at 300 people, DAOC had 1500!
They have free road trips where they meet with fans. This is going on all over the country this year.
So with DAOC you get a great community, top graphics, best RvR, 2 free expansions a year and one that you can purchase. Not sure you will find any better fantasy MMORPG out there.
I think if WoW doesnt do it for me, I may just renew my DAoC account. I miss RvR.
Looking for something new.
I love this game i dont stop playing and wish i could play more. Probibly the most addicting game ever. I seriously need a timer to tell me when to stop playing or i will play forever. So yes, buy the game and come over to the clustered sever gawaine and go to midgard and make friends with Beldash.
A people wonder why the WoW community has such a bad reputation? Could it be because even before the game was out they went to other games there were out/coming out and trashed them? Or because they go to other games forums, trash that game with lies, and then say how WoW is great? Hmm the world may never know . . .
It is easy to solo in DAOC, much easier than before (but still not as much as WoW, because WoW is beter viewed as a solo game set inside a chat room). You can level your entire way up from level 1 just by RvR only if you choose. You can pretty much do quests all the way up if you want. Or you can do it the old kill mobs way. They have cut the leveling time at least in half because if you want for every level you get, you get a free level at least once a week.
WoW has fewer classes, less content, and no RvR. If they finish their RvR it will be caped at 300 character and what they have planned for people who are not the highest are boring roles. DAOC has much better CS, better graphics, and the servers don't crash!
Not "Everyone" plays WoW and anyway who wants to play the same game everyone else is playing?
Daoc still has an exceptionally lively population, most of the individual servers and clusters have upwards of 2500 players on them at peak times.
At low levels it may seem empty since anyone with a level 50 can use the /level 20 command to skip the first few levels, but the new expansion Catacombs makes up for that with some great locations to xp in and tons and tons of quests to help level.
Get the Prima guide to Catacombstoo - I did the maps in it and they are extrememly useful and the rest of the info in there is very useful as its not yet out of date
Be aware however, if you choose Midgard it CAN appear gloomy and miserable, but Mids have some GREAT classes and abilities and its worth sticking with them! If you want easy-mode though, roll Hib. Albion is the most populous realm (well the game IS called Dark Age of Camelot!).

I know this thread has been kinda talked out but I felt like giving my two cents worth in. I think that Mythic has made alot of great new advances toward infusing more life into the game. Recently I can think of a few in particular.
Server Clustering: This particular change where multiple servers were given the same Realm v. Realm (Player v. Player) areas has infused a great amount of playability into the game. Now it is still possible to find things to kill in PvE, as all servers have retained their PvE zones, but it is also easier to find conflict in the Battlegrounds and Frontiers.
Relocation of starting areas: All characters start off in the same basic area now, this can be a good thing or a bad thing depending on whether you wish to find people to play with at lower levels. With so many lower level characters running around the same area traditional adventuring can be a little tedious but it's easy to find groups. This problem is alleviated by the next comment.
Instance Dungeons: Mythic has followed City of Heros by creating instance dingeons, a great way to level up your character on a bunch of monsters specifically scaled for you to be able to kill, but not a cakewalk so you still need to have some play skills.
Free Levels: The free level system is there as a boon to those that don't get to play very often but still wish to advance. This system will grant you a free level each week providing you have gained at least one level since your last free level. A little tricky but it is a nice reward for sticking in there.
I have been a DAoC player for a few years now and have had more fun playing these past few months than I eve had in the previous few years. RvR is revamped, PvE is easer than ever, and finding my way around has never been so much fun. Even the newest of players can make their way around with the new ingame tutorials. I applaud Mythic for listening to the feedback their population has given them, just one pet peeve I have, they could use a little faster response to Customer Service Requests.
