Maybe their account manager has a self preservation subroutine. I have long suspected that artificial intelligence does exist, it is just hidden. This is just one more piece of evidence to support my theory.
Or, they are trying to keep your money. It's like when you try to file a medical claim and they auto decline you. Statistically speaking, a certain number of people will only resubmit a certain number of times before simply giving up. So did you give up?
The website was undergoing maintenance while the OP posted this message, it had nothing to do with canceling because the forums, etc were down for maintenance as well. I know this because upon those forums going down I came here and saw the OP, but did not have time to write this post explaining that it was just a coincedence and had nothing to do with the OP trying to cancel, the website was down for everyone at that time.
This is a good game, and this thread is an example of dishonest bashing. It is not like this is an ongoing problem, it was just a coincedence. I mean Cryptic refunds subscription moneys (say for a six month of lifetime sub) anytime within 30 days, they are pretty good about billing support.

agree, while i am not a fan of CO, i dont believe that Cryptic would use any unusual methods to stop people cancelling their subscriptions... beyond maybe adding a questionaire asking why they were cancelling..
Lol 15 minutes after posting this thread I was finaly able to cancel my sub.-)
If only the other 10,000 subscribers would do the same, maybe Cryptic would get the message.
Is it really that bad now?
It's not literally that bad, and the low point for the population has passed (around early november). Based on quantcast, aiononline.com and champions-online.com get about the same number of hits per month (16,300 for CO and 14,800 for aion in the last month).

Ouch! I was semi-joking. 16k? I would think the game would need 20k to break even...
I know the game is not for me, I need team based play, and the design of the game is simply not made for real teaming goodness. Super casual solo players can't be a very big market for a subscription based game. To bad Cryptic didn't think about that.
quantcast doesn't track subscription numbers, just hits to a website.
Unless something is wrong with their account or a new patch is coming in most people don't bother checking the website of the mmo they're playing. Both of those games probably have far more people subscribing than visit their site. If they didn't I imagine they would have shut down already.

Ever heard of a little game called World of Warcraft? Casual solo players are big mmo business.

You have a point, but let's not forget that WoW also has multiple paths to levelling, and the meat of the game is endgame raiding (group content). Which CO has neither.

On the flipside, people that have canceled still check the site too. I know I do to see if they're patching anything significant. So it can go both ways

No this thread is not dishonst bashing. I have been trying for 3 months to cancel my account and can not. I am having Bank Americ dispute it now. On top of that I can not even get to anyone at cryptic about this issue. I either get an answering machine or am put on hold for about 10 minutes and disconnected. It is a serious ongoing problem.

WoW does the same thing.
Apparently stating the truth in my sig is "trolling"
Sig typo fixed thanks to an observant stragen001.

Cryptic is trying a Customer Development approach to MMO creation.
