Ive played SO MANY mmorpgs but im one of those people that never actually had a main that got passed even lvl 20 because i would start on other games. Im sure some of you know what i mean.
What i want help with is I really like to socialize and explore (and i dont mind pvp i like that too but its not my main goal). I have so many mmorpgs and i cant decide what to play. EQ2 kind of dissapointed me but I hope they fix alot of probs, and IMO WoW is just to...simple. I loved playing AO before the expansions, there were so many people at hang out spots and trading, and so many events going on. Im thining about giving SWG a chance but i dunno yet. I play eve online currently and i like that game, but i need someting else. I would just like a game with a great community, and it is very active. I dont care if its a HUGE community (quality not quantity) I just want to have some fun while in game with others. If none are out now, then can you reccommend any new games comin out that will have what im looking for. BTW just to let you know ill give you the games ive played (youc an reccommend one ive already played as well). FFXI, EQ 1&2, UO, Ragnarok, EvE, AO, Lineage, WoW, Planetside, WWIIO, Saga of ryzom, Shadowbane, DAoC, AC2, Neocron.
What i basically need some help on is a game i can stick with but some people tell me i never really give the games i play a chance. Anyways thanx for responses.

Rent that was one of the best posts ive ever read ::1
Cool, my post count is 1337 hehe
if you like Eve stay with it until DnL comes out or go Lineage2 (private) or WoW
How abot looking for an mmo that is purly based on player skills?
I really got tired of all the point and clicky clicky clicky clicky type games(especially EVE which is a nice peice of game).
You can wait for Mourning (supposed release date in about 2 weeks) or Dark and Light (April) that both seem to promise much more player skill involved.
Of the current mmos, I can't think of any that offer any more challenge then clicking the same 2 or 3 power bar icons 50,000 times as you grind away to get the next cool uber loot item.
The two mmos that require the most skill and challenge are in my opinion two of the oldest games out there... Asherons Call (1) and Ultima Online. Atleast they still make you think to some degree rather then just click the same buttons mindlessly for hours.

i agree with rentantilus in most of the terms, eve is a fine game but you need really a lot of time although you don't have to be online all the time but if you need a month to raise a skill by 1 point it could be frustrating for a lot of ppl.
Another thing with eve is that the economy is rather strong so if you like all the finance stuff you will love it, disadvantage is for example that if you haven't been in the eve universe and you try to enter it now some stuff you would want to do at the beginning is impossible to achive. i just downloaded the 14-days trial and want to start a scientists kindda char, i managed to get all the info i needed to do some research then i searched for a research slot and bang, no chance. at the beginning the cost for a research slot was 1.000 now it is around 480.000. its just like you try to enter in a settled market ^^ its tough and that makes it realistic too.
dieing gives you a hard time too in eve, if you die in an encounter with way to high enemies it is absolutly impossible to get your stuff back without ppl who can kill those enemies. you can't do a hit-and-run cuz they will kick you out your ship 10km before you are in reach of your stuff.
you need to be really careful with kill task.
so all in all if you need great challange eve is definately for you.
p.s.: too bad that so many mmorpgs got cancled last year, Wish had some great stuff in there for example
p.s.s.:I'm searching for a mmorpg too but i have tried also a lot. hard time for mmorpgs
Correct me if I am remembering wrong, but didn't you post quite a while back that you'd stopped playing Eve
LOL, in all seriousness, I agree, and always have, that Eve is an excellent game. But let's be honest ... it simply isn't more complex than all the other games out there. It's just different ... which is a perfectly good thing. I am not going to start naming all the other games because that will just generate an argument over each ... but I will certainly say that AO is significantly more complex than Eve.
The issue with Eve is that it's particular characteristics have to appeal to your personal gaming tastes, or it wears out pretty fast. Personally, I don't get into these never-ending PvP wars, I simply will not mine, and I didn't find the manufacturing very interesting or immersive. Thus, I was left largely with missions, which I did, indeed, love for a while. But untimately they got tiring. And evironment-wise, sheesh. Yeah what's there looks pretty good (not great), but there really ain't much there. "Community" is very weak except for the PvP wars. You can fly for 15 minutes without even seeing anyone. Nobody even talks in local channels, and the global channels are mainly routine chitchat with people you may *never* see.
Umm, and you are complaining about "grind" in some other games? Eve is the grind to end all grinds. So instead of levels, you do it for money, equipment, and faction. Big difference.
Nevertheless, I wouldn't be surprised if I crank it up for a few months again in the future though just to play with missions and see what they add. Just let's not overstate the case.
Ive played a lot of mmo's i even played EvE.The whole problem with mmo's imho is putting in so many things to please the community it becomes overcomplicated. Then it becomes a 2nd job to even play and get to a point where your character is effective.Sure EvE has offline skill training and that is just pure genius.Increasingly mmo's are being made to a degree where it is impossible to just log on and play. They are designed more to be time sinks. It takes longer to accomplish things.
If you want to try something new and a bit more relaxed and casual come and play City of Heroes. The game is in its 3rd FREE expansion. The next expansion will have PvP arena's included and the gloves will be coming off!!The missions are story arcs within the game not just instanced missions. The game just keeps getting better and better with every expansion. This summer City of Villians and PvP zones (hopefully open there are a few heroes that need to be taken down a notch)will be released and a whole different game will start evolving.
Say what you will about its simplistic style of play but while some players are going to a "quest area"im already doing missions with my supergroup. The travel time to a mission is so small its not even worth mentioning. The costume system allows you to make a very unique look beyond that the ability to tweak it out in stores within the game allows it to look even better.
The Power pools allow you to pick and choose what you want. You can even make some powers better than others.
The best part? Its not a fantasy game.Between this and EvE and few others coming out the genre is evolving past its EQ/UO roots. As far as im concerned any game that is NOT a fantasy game is good.Even if the game fails at least it was an effort.
So if you want a game that you can log on and play for 30 minutes and accomplish something come on.If you want to play more even better.Level 20 can be reached within 1 week easily.
Come look at my SG's website for more info.

Want to ENJOY an mmo?
Dont start a guild and dont be a leader or volunteer to be coleader or captain.
Just play the damn game:)
Pultry i really tend to agree with you. not about the CoH because i havent tried it yet, but about games that arent fantasy based (in acception to DnL). I love sci fi the most, and i always will, im up for new ideas.
I might also give CoH a try especially when city of villains is out >:D
One that has good potential for deviating from the norm is Guild Wars. Played beta weekends, and I found it really fun. They reward skill of the player not grinding etc...
No monthly fee either, just initial purchase, and optional expansion packs.
Check out the Guild Wars site.
Sorry, but after playing Eve Online, all other MMORPGs are going to seem "simple." Make a character with one of four head models, pick a cookie-cutter class, and commence grinding levels by killing monsters. You can't drive a Porche and then expect to be happy going back to a station wagon.
FFXI: All of the graphics and animations of Final Fantasy, but none of the fun.
EQ1: Do you like grinding? I hope so, because that's all there is to do!
EQ2: Take everything you liked about EverQuest and toss it out the window.
Ragnarok: Great game, if you're a 12-year-old Asian kid.
Eve Online: Not many gamers are mature or smart enough for this game, as evident by their simple-minded complaints of "mining and traveling are boring!" If you don't like mining, why would you mine? If you don't like traveling, why would you accept missions to deliver things 27 systems away? If you can't use your brain, you won't enjoy Eve Online.
Lineage: Their trademark motto should be, "Got Bots?"
WoW: "Bringing the MMORPG experience to the 3rd grade retarded child with ADD crowd."
Planetside: Let's pay $15 per month to play Tribes 2.
WWIIO: Is this what they meant by "history repeats itself?"
SoR: It's not a typical MMORPG; it's in the future! Yeah, "in the future" is exactly what I'm thinking as I slaughter rat-like creatures just outside of a mud-hut village with my sword and shield.
Shadowbane: SO close! Some great ideas, but crippled by the lame ideas they inherited from EverQuest!
DaoC: Think Tank: "If we make a game just like EverQuest, we'll get at least some of their subscribers... that's millions of dollars!" Boss: "Brilliant, get to work!"
AC2: This game is only missing one thing that AC1 had: players.
Neocron: FPS with levels? Who is the genius who dreamed up that combination? That's not like peanut butter and chocolate; that's like onions and battery acid.
Nice list. You forgot UO from the list though
OK! here we go. y the list you'll tell im a big Sci Fi Fan lol. Anyways games im willing to give a shot at.
SWG. (Currently going to give it a shot)
MxO. (Beta testing it but the stress isnt up yet.)
CoH. (maybe i will im not sure yet)
DnL. (only one thats not not sci fi)
Auto Assault. (:) hopefully it will remind me of the twisted metal days)
Imperator. (Looks aweomse)
las but not least Tabula Rasa. (Cant wait to check it out.)
So rightnow it looks like Swg and MxO for rightnow. When DnL comes out it all depends on what i read. DnL seems to be just good for looks rightnow, someone posted recently about the gameplay that doesnt sound to promising...but! i dunno we'll see. All in due time. Im just really looking for a game that ill love an play for a long time.
edit: he also forgot about AO
"1) I couldn't get into the whole "you are a spaceship" thing. I want to be able to stop at a space station, get out of my ship, and walk around in a FPS interface. I want to get shot at and hide behind corners, pick locks, and jump between catwalks. To me, science-fiction is just so much more than just mining, trading, and spaceship battles."

Yep thats how i feel man. I agree 100%
Hillarious!
No, I disagree. I like both. When I'm more in the mood for a more engaging and thinking intensive experience I play EVE. When I'm in the mood for a more fantasy killing monsters experience I play a fantasy RPG. EVE is more sophisticated, but sometimes I want less sophisticated depending on what I am in the mood for. Great thing about EVE is that I can set a skill to train for a few days if I am going to be away or playing another game for a few days, which is a big advantage in my opinion.
