Honestly, I'm sick of 6 people parties.
WoW had it okay with 5. But I'd rather 4 or 3. In XI it was hard as hell finding 6 people. If they made it 3 or 4 (DPSx2, heal, tank) it'd be great.

I was a fan of 6 man PT. More options on how to build the pt. There was nothing set in stone. Some of the best pt's i was in, in ffxi Were not the standard. My all time favorite was RDM, BRD, PLD (me), BLM 2xDD. Spam cures all day and never loose hate or run out of mp.

I'm with you. I really enojyed 6 man parties.
6 man is good. Not too many people to fit through the door, but yet if you are 1 short you can still go. The smaller the party the more 1 man short hurts you.
Yup, I like 6 too...
I like 3-4, less people look for... besides FF games have gone to a more 3 party system than to the norm 6. so im thinking maybe they’ll go with min 3-4, just my opinion. its nice to have 6 more options but you still have to have your staples (tank, healer) then you want a buffer then you want a mezzer then the dps and groups done so really its the same every time. you just don't have to have one of those extras and you can throw in 2 mezzers or no mezzers take your pick your still looking for specifics.
I say more the merrier, Id be down with 40 man parties all day. heh. People are just to lazy to find parties, or just don't have the time. Which is understandable but with FFXIV if you don't want to get a 6man then just fucking solo.... After all it is a more solo friendly game. Easy as pie
It is 6 for a reason. You have to take mob strengths and the need for specific roles in the party. For FFXIV you first have to look at balancing the mob strength based on what you want for a game. Initially SE was thinking party only so mobs were placed at a difficulty where it pretty much an easy with 6 people, but soloing the same mob would be next to impossible. By lowering the gap you make it so less people are needed to easily kill a mob, but you bring the difficult down so they are easier to solo. It is a matter of what the developers want to do with the game and the amount of people needed are then reverse engineered.
Did it make you feel good that you needed 6 people to kill a crab in Valkrum Dunes? How about worms? lol
Guess I'm in the opposite camp. DAOC had 8 man parties and I've been looking since for a game that was designed around more complicated group mechanics.
But 6 is still better than 5 so I hope FFXIV sticks with that.

If you mean: "Does it make me feel good to be apart of a real, albeit virtual, society that bands together and works as one to pursue common goals; attaining both achievement and advancement while gaining pride in that my actions not only fulfill my own personal needs but the needs of my friends and countrymen as well while overall gaining both prestige and honor to be apart of a real, albeit virtual, society instead of being some lonely recluse with an oversize sword?" ... ... ... ... hmm ... yes. And I'd also complement you on a long and complex non-runon sentence. How about you?
... ... ... ... ... ... ... oh wait; lol.

so i play LOTRO on landravol and well i must say that we have a great community and I am not forced to group. I do group alot to get through some of the harder instances for fun because it is fun not forced like sitting in jeuno for hours and hours waiting for your spot to open up in a group or that little out post in the dunes. BAH sucked. anyway i like the option to group or not what ever im in the mood for and no its not 6 it may be 2. if you look at someof the screens you will see 2 people battleing crabs not to say there isn't 4 more hiding in some dark alley waiting to ambush the crabs here is the link enjoy.... http://www.ffxivcore.com
I'm down with 6 man groups. 5 works with WoW but it still feels a little cheap to me compared to the classic 6 man groups of EQ and FFXI.
SWG had like 20 man groups, it was ridiculous.
From my speculation on the disciplines that would be available, my guess would be that FFXIV will stick with 6-player parties. Although there are disciplines still missing on FINALFANTASYXIV.com, I'm assuming the following:
(1) The five Disciples of War currently shown are all the ones that will be available at launch.
(2) This seems to also be the case for Disciples of the Hand with five available.
(3) I'll assume that Disciples of Magic will also have five choices.
(4) An even number party size allows the option to split the party between War and Magic members.
(5) Knowing the tendency of MMORPG players to follow generic party formats, I think going with 6 players balances desirability for disciplines that aren't the best tanks or healers more than going with 4 players.
