I've been curious as to how the game will be sold like. Will there be a one payment for the retail, and then it's free (no extras) then subscribe and get the extra's
Or is it free from the start with no retail, and then option to sub to get the extra's?

You pay for the retail and can play for free.
Pay a monthly sub and you get extra content like the AvA, extra maps, ect.
According to the devs, you will have to pay $13 monthly if you ever want to play with more than 3 other friends at a time.
the retail f2p version will contain:
- 5 different pvp modes, 5 PVE modes and about 3-4 maps for each mode. in total this is about 30-40 different environments. but each encounter in PVE is unique because the NPC's are randomized.
- while there are 4 "classes", each class can be played in at least 12 different ways, each viable for specific purposes. so the game isnt really constrained by the classes...you can play your character in many many ways. there is something for everyone. and unlike games like WoW, each "spec" is very much viable in pvp because the game is skill-based
- different armor and dyes for customizing your character as well as crafting and implants to boost your stats
- regular updates: new equipment and maps. much more for people who are subbing
p2p includes:
- a whole different game. basically a shooter/RTS hybrid in which youre fighting for territorial control. youre researching blueprints, building vehicles and facilities.
the latest word from the devs is that they may expand matchmaking from random or 4-person teams, to 10-person strikeforces. which means you'll be able to play with 9 friends even in the f2p version.
Few clarifications.
There are 4 classes with the same basic weapons. There are handful of other options unlocked over time, though only 2-3 are actually worth using.
There are 5 pvp modes, with payload currently completely unbalanced. There are 4 generic maps for each type, most being almost carbon copies of the others. There are only 2 maps per PVE mode I believe.
If you pay the monthly fee, they might add being able to play with 9 of your friends. They said this mode would only be for the monthly fee. You can only play with 3 if you are in free mode.
