Seems these are the next batch of mmos to be released between now and 2011. Which ones do you think will actually be good, fun and well polished or is this just another case if quantity over quality mmos.
Comments
Not sure what you mean when you say between now and 2011. That is, if you're including all of 2011 or stopping at January 1, 2011.
If that is the case then it's of note that TOR has recently announced they are shooting for around spring 2011 so it won't make that list. Also, considering Funcom's financial woes and recent announcement that development on TSW has slowed I don't see it launching before 1/1/11.
That said, I hope FFXIV is good as it'll be my first shot at playing a FF MMO. Outside of FFXIV I'm not really interested in playing any of the other games on that list. Well, that is unless I missed World of Darkness Online on the list.

I don't think it's on that list but I am looking forward to World of Darkness. If they have the idea of the same scale as EvE, I think it will be very nice. When I first played EvE and saw the character sheet, the first thing I thought of was WoD. Then again if they only have a main place that everyone is stuck in, it could quickly turn into City of Vampires and lose any kind of immersion.
I hope LOVE succeeds just to show that one guy can make a MMO that makes a difference in the scene. After launch it will probably no longer be a 1 man show because of logistics but as long as the guy remembers his vision it should be good for people who want something different.
I honestly think that Lego:Universe will be the only fun and polished MMO releasing in 2010.
SWTOR, GW2 and FF14 will probably be ok aswell but I tihnk all 3 will release in 2011
If WoW = The Beatles
and WAR = Led Zeppelin
Then LotrO = Pink Floyd
The Lineage 2 crowd is waiting for it's spiritual successor. It's coming out in 2010 according to the faq on http://www.tera-online.com
They say their aiming for a more western game but if its from the lineage guys so it would still have a hefty amount of grinding which i would hate.
Blade & Soul and TERA (not on that list) look like a safe bet as far as graphics, animations and general polish goes, but seeing how they're developed by ncsoft or ex ncsoft devs, a lot of people will probably expect lots of flash and little substance, as well as a bot paradise.
Both of those games seem to be trying new things as far as combat goes however, with B&S having a very arcade'ish combat feel to it and TERA sporting a non-target combat system and things like active blocking, which might also make things a bit more difficult for the bots that always infest ncsoft/korean titles.
Final Fantasy 14 is almost guaranteed to be a very polished game, the big questions are how far will they stray from the EQ inspired, challenging gameplay of FF11 and into watered down, hold your hand, kid friendly wow territory, and how much will the combat system and controls suffer from it also being a console release.
Secret World had me real interested, classless, open world, if it became Asheron's call with a modern day setting it would quickly climb to the top of my list, and I still think Funcom can deliver a top notch game, if they learn from the mistakes of past releases while retaining the good points. Doubt we'll see this one anytime soon tho, they're moving the studio to Canada, with a 1.5 year time frame for hiring staff.
Lego universe looks pretty good.
It'll be filled with kids. Not looking forward to general chat.
I'll defineatly give it a go.

The answer to your question is Zero. No use getting hyped about any of these games. They aren't breaking boundaries, they haven't changed how they deploy development assets, and they are further invested then titles in the past. Result is you won't find anything "polished". There are a couple that show promise of being good.
That list is missing one of the games that is sure to be one of the biggest MMOs of 2010, namely TERA Online.
If TERA gets advertised right it's possible that it will become the largest newcomer on the market, but since its developer is new on the market it might not be economically feasible to advertise it to that point. It's a very promising game either way and I loved the two days I got to try it.
Personally I think TERA, FFXIV and Blade and Soul will be the big titles of 2010. TERA and Blade and Soul are the only two games that are trying to break the current MMORPG trends to bring something new to us. FFXIV has been in development for so long and it's just too high of a budget project to fail, even if we assume the game won't be any good it will still become fairly large because of FF fans and the hype.
SWTOR is probably going to be the most overhyped loser of 2010/2011. The game is ridiculously overhyped and it has no actual substance or unique things about it and like mentioned previously it will probably become a multiplayer game a la D2 due to instances. When the game gets released I'm gonna sit back and watch the fanboys rage all over the forums about how the game is so shitty and that they're going back to WoW.
Hoping for Tera. My soul MMO is still L2, and looking at Tera, it does resemble certain things. I just hope bots won't destroy it.
Guild Wars 2 has a good chance as well.
Go ahead name a bad game that Bioware has made,I will wait

Neverwinter Nights. Happy?
It still doesn't change the fact that your argument is flawed. Just because a game developer has made many good games doesn't mean that all future games also will be good games, see Blizzard, Square (Enix), Nintendo and Konami.

You said the game will suck and I simply stated that Bioware has track record for making good games,Bioware game with no substance? Common on they do use the same generic template for each game but the one thing you can't say about a bioware is it lacks substance ,I have extreme faith in Bioware to make a good game.
APD
This will be a big one. The money put behind this is huge though i think it more of a console gamers game then an MMO gamers. This is not just another crimecraft or global agenda it is pretty massive and i think will do pretty well. If this game does not there it will become an EA bitch and fail.
Allod Online
Basically as good as wow, cooler, polished and free to play. I think this will make a major change for F2P games. 10 times better then ruin of magic this one is definitely a diamond in the rough.
Blade and Soul
Will likely release a lot of cool trailers. Have a few neat features but then flop really bad due to a grind of some kind. The game will just turn out to be too korean for people.
DC Universe
I think will do pretty well. Prob more of a console gamers thing. There are some interesting mechanics that i think will draw people in. If champions does not get its act together DC will stomp them ibnto the dust.
Earthrise
If this sees the light i think it will be a semi polished MMO vets sandbox game. Kind of like a ground sci fi eve. I do not think it will be the wow kids cup of tea. See it kind of surviving as a darkfall or a fallen earth.
FFXIV
This i think will have a large hype but will be hampered down by the devs getting a little too creative mechanics that does not appeal to the average gamer. For the people who stay and go a long with what the devs idea is they will have a fabulous time and be fighting trolls off in this forum till the end of days.
Global Agenda
Be well recieved as a polished Shooter/mmo conquest hybrid. People who do not understand what it is going in will be very disappointed. Those who do will be happy with the game.
Guild Wars 2
I see this as being one of the bigger titles for the year. Will do well basically be a GW but lean a little towards the massive part of MMOs. I think a lot of pr will be thrown behind it and it will do well in box sales.
Heros of Telara
Will be postponed or funding will be shut down well the company works on there other MMOs. Interviews so far for this game have read like many you see for smaller indy companies. If it launches i think it will be unpolished and over experimental turning many players off. I do think there will be a lot of neat features in the rough however that will be interesting to look at,
Love
Be fun but narrow in scope. A strong niche game.
Mythos
A solid fun western fp2 game that will do well among casual gamers.
Mortal Online
Will launch insanely prematurely, try and stay a float but run out of money in the end.
STO
Will go the way of champions, possibly even be the nail in the coffin for cryptic. Over time might turn into a game like vanguard or AOC and be worth a second glance.
SWTOR
Be heavily instanced but due well. It will be a classic bioware game but they will bandaid it nicely and it will have and retain high subscription numbers. People will stay with it for the same reason people always stay with bioware games. They will want tot know what happens next.
The Agency
Will be interesting but meh. If it gets to consoles it will do well.
Torchlight MMO
MMO version of the game. Nice little gen in the rough.
Biggest games
SWTOR
GW2
FFIXV
APD
Biggest surprises
Allod
Global Agenda
Earthrise
Biggest disapointments
Mortal
STO
Blade and soul
some have been in beta forever, and wont be going live .by staying beta if the game suck they get to say we re in beta
ton of game do that since no game like to be told you released a bad game by staying in beta they avoid that!
yes i know its twisted and not nice of them lol what can we do!
well if u compare to 2009 mmo drought, then 2010 will be a year where mmo will be flooding us with choices.i doubt anyone can test all of them so we need to pick and drop most.
i will pick FFXIV and Blade & Soul.one for pve/community and one for pvp.
might get GW2 as well if it is one time payment buy to play like GW1
Secret World is lacking in gameplay details so i will test it if it allow testing but not commit to buying unless its really good.
as for the rest of the f2p mmos.too many to list but i may play them while waiting for the mmos listed above that i wanted ^^
If I have learned anything from experience, it's not to expect much before a game's release. Quite honestly, you never know. Even betas can easily be limited and can mislead potential players. Experience has also taught me that companies with the best track records tend to make the best games.
FFXI, for example, despite its design flaws was highly polished with few bugs. One cannot deny Square's success in the console RPG market. Blizzard's WoW is massive and is without argument the most commercially successful MMO to date. Blizzard's attention to detail before WoW and the quality of their games cannot be denied. BioWare also has a great record when it comes to quality. With titles like Mass Effect, KotOR, and Baulder's Gate, they have established themselves in much the same way Blizzard did with their single player games (Warcraft, Starcraft, and Diablo). It also works the other way, though. Sony has two games on that list. The only title I can think of for them that hasn't been surrounded by criticism, controversy, and strong dislike is EQ. EQ is long past its "golden age," and we've seen nothing from Sony in recent years to indicate that they're even capable making a non-fail game. No-name companies can go either way, and we're all pleasantly surprised when new companies wow us with the next big thing, but let's be honest here: How often does that actually happen?
Therefore, given the above, I have to put my bet on FFXIV, and SW:TOR as the games comming out on top. In the grand scheme of things, we don't know a ton about either of these games. It's a roll of the dice on the deloper, so I have to go with the two I trust.
If Runics MMO is as good as Torchlight, thatll be on the top of my list alongside Starwars and APB. Mythos might be fun if its had some decent development time.
There's sure to be a few surprises. SW:ToR is the only safe bet in my opinion. GW2 and Final Fantasy will probably do well also.
Vault-Tec analysts have concluded that the odds of worldwide nuclear armaggeddon this decade are 17,143,762... to 1.
Guild Wars 2, FFIV - ALL IN!
TERA - 500$
MO,blade&soul - 5$ each =p
draw the cards
now: GW2 (11 80s).
Dark Souls 2.
future: Mount&Blade 2 BannerLord.
"Bro, do your even fractal?"
Recommends: Guild Wars 2, Dark Souls, Mount&Blade: Warband, Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning.
You make a very good point Wanderica. I agree with that and would also go on ot say that hype can kill a game way before it starts. Not only with expectations of gamers, but in a business sense as well.
The Best
1. Guild Wars 2 - With a persistent world, open world pvp, and a higher level cap many more will love ArenaNet.
2. The Old Republic - Despite many complaining about instancing, it will be a great game to play. The original Guild Wars had instancing and look how that did.
3. FFXIV - SE may be going more of the traditional mmo with less grouping needed but they will make a great game!
4. Torchlight - Runic Games had a big hit with the rpg version and it will be no different here with the mmo in the making.
SW:TOR and Guildwars 2 perhaps? I gotta say, neither game looks too appealing, but it's still early.
I am also hoping Jumpgate Evolution turns out okay. And maybe The Secret World? I hope the 40K MMO will be detailed a bit in 2010 as well.
Other then that? Nope, no real interesting ones coming out.
only 2 of them to look forward to tbh. Guild Wars 2 and Final Fantasy. Then again I'm miserable and cynical so maybe one could surprise out of them.
I am not sure if ArenaNet knows what they are getting into.. They arent going to get by with just box sales + " expansions " every 4 , 5 or 6 months. It costs much more to run an MMO than what they had with GW. The game will probably be good but I for 1 will not buy a rinky dink expansion every time I blink.
The next FF will probably be good but I hate FF so I will never play it.
TOR will also probably be good but I dont have the urge to play it.
