Not much news about this, other than its a brand new IP, and at Blizzcon today when one of the host said "Looks like we won't be hearing much about Blizzards' upcoming MMO". Anyone else wondering what it could be?
EDIT: Im not telling everyone about this! Ive known this news for sometime, im just simply creating conversation about the topic.

Basically they have said it will not be Diablo, StarCraft, nor WoW2. They have said they are not picking up any of the IPs floating around out there. So, it could be anything - it could be nothing - and it will be years until we see anything.
New thread with last years info?
Its been known for a long time that Blizzard is creating a new MMORPG based off a completely new franchise of their making. It is no surprise really, they dont want to rely on the big 3 forever (diablo, warcraft, starcraft). There might be a few slips here and there at blizcon but nothing really informative will be heard of for quite some time. Their time will be spent talking about the updates to WoW (which from what i hear, will be one of those mmorpgs that will never die at this rate, they keep adding to the game and doing those long expected changes), diablo (with a cruddy new class) and the details on starcrafts trilogy.
Yes ma'am. Just wanted to use this amazing thing called a forum, its cool how you can pick a topic and sometimes have a conversation about it...
I am hoping they will drop news on the new MMO right at the finale of BlizzCon, and they are just fooling us to make it more of a surprise.
I am hoping this is whats happening. :x
They wont overshadow the WoW expansion with a new mmo, that would be very stupid and give nothing to be excited about next Blizzcon. I think this is the big announcement this year and the rest of it will just be talking about Starcraft 2 and Diablo 3. Then next year they'll announce their new mmo and show off more Diablo 3. Then the year after that I'm hoping for Warcraft 4.

Yeah, its just... Whats the point in making a new thread about this subject when there are several threads already on the same topic? Especially since we have no new info.
Since pre-production started in 2008, expect the game for a 2013/2014 release.
My addiction History:
>> EQ1 2000-2004 - Shaman/Bard/Wizard/Monk - nolife raid-whore
>> WoW 2004-2009 + Cataclysm for 2 months - hardcore casual
>> Current status : done with MMO, too old for that crap.
More like 07'
this is a secret!not anyone at blizzard is aurtorised to say anything about this so you ll hear a lot of go see him ,go see her but at the end of the line nobody will answer because its not autorised.so its safe to say its at least 5 years away
Next year both Starcraft 2 will be out and cataclysm will be out or just a month or 2 from release, they will only then have D3 so Blizzcon 2010 announcment will no doubt be the new MMO.
Yeah sounds pretty spot on. Unless they show the next SC2 game in their 3 game series or some new Diablo 3 info. There could always be another WoW expansion also.
I think you are exactly right though. Next year would be the perfect time for them to unveil it. Imagine how badass it would be if they unveiled it, and then kicked off beta the same day.

Nostradamus! :P Looks like you are right about blizzard's next mmo announcement.

whatever it is, i'm gonnabuy it. They are the only company yet to release a game that wasn't fun for me. World of Warcraft kept me entertained for almost a year; only EvE and LotRO passed this mark.

Not sure how they are going to build an MMO that does not compete with WoW.
Make it a sand box game maybe? Or, purley pvp?
I played WoW for five years... I will definitely be keeping an eye on this one.

Do a google search.
The was some rumor out there about Blizzards new game being an MMOFPS. Who knows if there's any truth to that, at all.
Would be a brilliant idea though, if they could pull it off. There's been what, 1 legit MMOFPS?
Another WoW clone? Geez
"Traditionally, massively multiplier online games have been about three basic gameplay pillars combat, exploration and character progression. In Alganon, in addition to these we've added the fourth pillar to the equation: Copy & Paste."
Interesting rumor. I wouldn't doubt if there is some truth to it. Even if it's more along the line of a mmo-shooter similar to Tabula Rasa or Global Agenda. 3rd person view with either tab targetting or FPS-like targetting.
Regardless of what it is, I'll check it out...Blizzard has yet to personally fail for me.
It wont be fantasy genre MMO, that market is saturated. Sci-Fi is the new area most MMOs are working into.
Torrential: DAOC (Pendragon)
Awned: World of Warcraft (Lothar)
Torren: Warhammer Online (Praag)
Hard to say, if they went sci fi people would want Starcraft.
Upon reading another post on this forum I am hoping they are working on an MMORTS/RPG...

Well the rumor stated that players will be fighting over objectives which more likely means land, it also means that there will be factions involved so I will be guessing sci-fi. Well whatever the ip is they must have saw something they really liked and is now in the proccess of duplicating it. LoL deja-vu all over again.
I am hoping for a well made sandbox game. The theme does not matter to me. Tired of these indie sandboxes making the genre look bad.
That's exactly what I thought too. We're getting so used to the fact that every sandbox game is a clunky, steep, unforgiving cogpile that a well-made one would surely wipe off some of the stains the term "sandbox" has gathered over the last years.
Every time I read "sandbox" nowadays the image of some very ganky, very vocal MMORPG uber-veteran who already played "Evil Dragons MUD" in 1972 manifests in my mind.
I would love to see a game with a creative, player driven approach that appeals to the normal, casual player. I'm really growing tired of all the min/max 'you gotta keep yourself on your toes' players lately...

EDIT: That's all 'except EvE Online' btw, which is a nerd's game, but has plenty of space for casual players... even in PvP

I use that amazing thing called news channel, and I'd be rather annoyed if they opened with some newsflash like "last minute: ww2 is over"
while I agree that anything related to MMOs should have a place here, try to avoid CIRCLES in the topics, the (lack of) news about Blizzard's new MMO has been discussed ad nauseam

A big issue ( in my opinion, of course) is that nearly every sandbox game wants to go the FFA PvP route. Not saying there isn't a crowd for that, just that you're cutting a small sandbox playerbase down even further.
