Possibility of NO open beta... "Open" meant you have to actually purchase to get in!

So the only way to get into their "open" beta is to purchase the game?  Now they are backtracking on what they said in the past.  They now do not know if they will open the beta to the world, or keep the current beta and call it "open"   (meaning you have to have purchase the game to get in)

Well...  this sucks....

Update:

2 weeks until the game is launched and they just now started thinking about it...  They do not have time for it in my opinion...

Seems they want a really small launch with a very small niche of people.  This might actually be the worst launched MMO to ever come out from the way its going now. :-

Stuff like this is very unprofessional, getting the hype up and then say "we never said that" while Henrik said it in IRC many times last year.

I started to type this buy then re-read the message and deleted my thread.  It's confusing.  I think he was saying that there was no "long-promised" open beta because they only promised it recently?

Someone asked for a clarification after that post so we will see.   I'm still confused though...

It make sense if you read the OP and then read Mats' post.  Hope Mats responds fast.

It's fine with me if they don't have an open beta. It just means that I won't bother to purchase it.

Looks like he clarified his statement:

"It doesn't really matter anyway, as open Beta has been mentioned recently, and also that it will be free. I just want to bring some order to the (apparent) confusion."

So is that a YES or a NO about the open beta?  (they only have 2 weeks so I am going with a NO as they are not even getting ready for it)

     seriously? read what he said....

he said there was not a promise for open beta in the past, it was just talked about i the few last days. which does states that there is open beta...

all mats said that they never promised an Open beta BEFORE they announced it last week on the forums.

he also stated that IRC is never official, but i guess some people like to hear what they want to.

Not official when the CEO (Henrik) was telling everyone in there (400+ people) that they were going to have an open beta.  "people like to hear what they want to" while the CEO actually said it?  Really?

You don't need to buy the game to join the stress test, just register ... doing the first step in the chain ... I think it was.

True not a good time since it will most likely be in offline mode the entire time.

No, wait until they push out the next patch because you'll wind up downloading it all over again.

Their patcher doesn't work, so that's what you'll have to do every time.

  • daarcodaarco Member UncommonPosts: 4,276

Ok, i was hoping i had missed the patch and it was already done : )

Download the torrent, it goes faster. The normal patcher is slower at the moment thou they havn't spend money on a fast connection yet.

But I am not sure when the stress test starts. It wont start today at least. I should wait until knowing for sure. Check out the MO forum. There are to many people here on this forum giving out wrong info.

It's not only the bandwith for the patcher that causes a problem -- it's that they don't know how to properly wrap "deltas" and apply them to existing files. I even gave them the code to start to write a patcher with torrent support built in. There's code to find out there as well that will replace block level data so they can submit the changes to a specific file, without downloading the WHOLE file.

The lack of thought and foresight that went into the patcher is just the edge of the spectrum on "things they did wrong". And the sad thing is, a lot of the community realized it MONTHS ago.

why does everyone bash this game so much?

they have been the most forthcoming dev team with information about what the game will and will not be at launch that ive ever seen. they accept that they are a niche game that isnt going to be finished when its launches and have told us that many times over so we know exactly what we are getting when its released. they are also giving a fucking open beta to let people try it out. whats the last game that gave an actual open beta to play before launch that was P2P???
