Can someone explain character progression in this game?

RPG and character progression are 2 completely different things :)

There is absolutely no roleplaying ... nothing.

Character progression is simple ... while playing pvp/pve you gain  experience, when you level you can either spend a skillpoint in a simplistic skill tree, or you unlock a new weapon/device for your character. All is unlocked at level 30.

and this is only Beta. They have much more anticipated for the game after release.

The huge part of Hi Rez making this game, is they actually care! They respond very fast to forum issues and relate to getting them fixes the same day sometimes, but definately within a week they throwin some nice serious bug patch fixes. They plan to grow there user base like EvE is instead of rushing the game out and overly mass advertising the game.

Trust me, they know what they are doing and are listening very closely to what we post in bugs/suggestions and what we post on the forums, so speak up if you are in beta. :)

And the Conquest Main Base raids are 60 vs 60, not quiet as big as others. Plans to add bigger on success of that for future additions as well.

Correct - until they open up the hex maps (which is coming - been confirmed in beta)

They are in the process of making it an ACTUAL 60v60.. Current game is how you say though...

AvA is alright.... It didn't blow me away but it was fun - I find the standard PvP matches the most fun tbh...

    For character progression:

You gain xp per each fight once the fight is over.  Unfortunately you do not get a bigger xp pool if you beat the snot out of the other team, as it seems to be time-related.  lvl's 1-30 you gain 1 thing per level, either a skill point or a new item unlocks.  You can throw some points into some minor spec's such as increasing your dmg 8%.  Not a gamechanger, but some do help.  You can continue to lvl past 30, but there is no point unless you really want that special set of armor.  It took me about 15 hrs to get lvl 30.

    For all other progression:

There is a main lobby.  The lobby has a few vendors.  You can buy armor (which has no stats), and upgrades (which has stats and decays).  The armor and dye, which is completely useless, has a lvl requirement before purchasing certain sets.

For pve, there is a few tiers of difficulty, but it is not like guildwars where you follow a story line.  You can unlock titles by beating some pve missions.  Nothing exciting.

Thats about it.  There are a few items you can get for AvA, such as these tiny vehicles.

If you are an fps fan, you may get frustrated by the game as twitch/aiming skill won't give you a better outcome, as well as the 3rd person.  If your an rpg fan, you may enjoy the change of pace.

The game is well done and polished, but if you are more into RPG or PVE,exploration and progression like me, i don't think you'll like it. I'm already bored with the PVP in the game and the PVE is not really worth it. I don't see myself playing in the long term and suscribe, but i might buy the game to play some PVP match from time to time. If you want RPG, i think you will be disappointed. That might change with time since they really seem to listen to their player base.

would TF2 be a better alternative then GA

There is little to no RPG elements.  The crafting is 2D and weak, basically pointless.  It is not like crafting in the sense of any MMO you have ever seen, it really is wasted words.

Dome city is horrible, auction house does not work well, and really has 0 economy.  Armor is utterly pointless and stupid, who wants armor to be purely for looks - laziness.

PvP games are repetitive and no rewards are given for healing, greater effort etc, it is all bland.  AvA is a joke.  Basically, in my humble opinion the game is a dud unless they fix a ton of stuff.  They have reasonable concepts, but other games deliver a massive amount more for the $$$.  This would be a great Free to play.

Any source of this or its just a guess? It would be great tho!

I don't see armor being able to do much more than looks though, this is a FPS game. If you add protections to the armor then level 1 players are going to be screwed against level 30.. probably even 10+. As it stands the game actually seems to balance skill/character progression well. I guess armor could have a little more appeal, maybe allowing it to increase run speed/increase jet pack length/use less energy for said weapon/etc.

Hrm seems I just contradicted myself lol.

It was posted on the dev forums - but I honestly have no idea what thread.... It was on the beta boards, they said they have a new way to implement it and they will be doing so within the next 6 months or less. They generally act fast (home made company sorta thing) - so I suspect between now and March/April we'll have it (this part is a guess tho) :)

It'll be cool - we'll have to see where they go with it... Im still on the fence if Im gonna sub tbh. AvA was fun but wasn't "Zomg mind blowing awesomeness" - I still had fun. I need to really experience more and figure out what Im doing before I make a final call on AvA. A few matches simply won't cut it....

That said - Im very happy even with the non-subbed version. I always wanted a FPS where I could progress my own character and use my own armor/skills/class, etc. So the non-sub version is worth it to me regardless (but some people don't - which I can also understand)... matches are fun as hell though (really - few disagree here)

Oh wells, maybe not as much RPG-ish-ness in this game as I'd like, but I preordered it just now anyway cuz it looks fun as hell

  • SpellshaperSpellshaper Member UncommonPosts: 419

    Thank you Cammy!

I am going to buy Global Agenda as soon as I get my stolen money back :D I am not sure about sub, but I believe I will decide after beta.

4 of my Aion friends have pre purchase GA but Im sitting on the fence on GA.

My concern is this:  Should I buy this game or CoD:MW2?  They seem to be FPS type games.  I have L4D1 &2 so I have coop FPS type game already.

What part of the MMO in GA will make it worth buying over CoDMW2 or L4D2?

    minus the open world

    minus the vehicle combat

minus the huge pvp battles that include hundreds of players at once

..aside from that its similiar but in GA you get into combat a lot quicker and easier.  it all revolves inside one small hub.

What do you mean they act fast?  They've had 5 years and all they have to show for it is 4 generic cookie cutter maps for each of the 5 modes and max of 10 v 10 battles...

I have preordered and been playing the beta.

Overall its a fun game, the PvP is alot of fun, the PvE is OK at best imo.

Plus you do get some character progression, some basic skill tree's and have some good choices with armor types and dye which you can make a fairly unique looking toon.

I am not sure if I will sub or not at this point. Not enuff to justify my paying monthly in the game at this point.

Is a good buy just for the free content I think and might be worth a monthly after they add and patch later.

The only thing "rpg" like about this game is a minor levelling grind that you will finish within a week or 2 and let you "customize" through allocating 13 points in 3 generic, bland skill trees.

I read a few days ago on a dev post that they have tried to balance the game for larger numbers but it just does not work out. Its going to stay 10v10.
