The space battles dont even seem like star Trek to me. I have never seen so much fighting in the Star Trek universe. One of my main complaints against the TNG show was Picard was such a wimp he would never fight anyone he would always out think them.
This is not in the game what so ever.  They have missed what this universe is all about and just took the Star Trek setting and made it into something it is not. I have never seen any of the shows or movies focus on ship combat time after time after time. I think 1 or 2 missions in 10 should be about ship combat.
The focus of the shows are really never about the ships but about the crew having to solving some type of problem. To bad 90% of the game so far is flying in circles and mashing buttons.  I wish I even had a choice like in SWG if I wanted to do Ship missions or stay on the ground. I dont see why I cant even walk around on a ship and have quests and missions on my ship like something wrong with my warp drive I need to fix it.  Maybe you have to do an away mission to get the parts you need to fix the problem.
Stuff like that is what I was looking for and I can say I wont be a subscriber unless they figure out what people want out of a Start Trek game but I can assure you this, it is not what I thought it was going to be and I am extremely disappointed in it.

As far as some of the complaints about too much ship combat. Remember the lore states that this is several years after the events in Nemesis and the universe is a harsher, more warlike place. This was their explanation for the increased combat and I think that is a reasonable explanation. You have to remember this is a video game. Certain things have to be adjusted to compliment that setting.

100% agree, im really glad you linked Allods too, its sad that a game like that can pull off something like this, and Cryptic cant.

It's not what they do, they work in a completely different way. The Beatles were great musicians, but ask them out of nowhere to just write a black metal album on the spot. I would think the end result would be quite bad, and seemingly uneducated on what they were creating. It's the same concept here, developers create what they have expereince in creating. Would you hire Raph Koster to build you the most linear themepark MMO that could ever exist?

Because with the sound of what the "trekkies" want it would be the most deep and complex MMO ever undertaken. It's just not plausible to expect Cryptic to make such a game. Again, it's not what they do..

Its a game, and a darn good one. Your expectations is what let you down, not Cryptic.

Thing is there are millions of us trek fans around the world. A more simulator type game where a Battle sized ship is a group of 3 to 8 people, where  you had differnt roles.  I would love to be on the ship somewhere palying as an eng, SO, tactical, helm  or medic, and so would many people i know.

I would bet a more simulator type game could hold 200k to 1 mil long term subs easy.  That is plenty of subs to keep a game going.

As the game stands one out of about 30 people in our local  group of friends that game/Lan  together plans on even purchasing after trying the open beta.

Not going to rant on, just clearly dissapointed

If STO had  a bridge view with a player view and crew it would be like being a modern tank simulator.

Captain = Tank Commander in with his independently operated camera looking for targets.

Helm = Tank driver looking through a 2inch x 12 inch slit going whichever way the captain tells him.

Tactical = gunner move turret, target, pull trigger... rinse and repeat.

I have nothing to equate the engineering and science officer to as there no tank comparisons but the in the tank you have a guy in the magazine passing the round to the loader who puts them in the barrel.

Basically, all you'd be doing is clicking a buttonn whenever the captain tells you to. No real character progression except maybe getting extra butoons to push. You wouldn't need WASD control on your character as your sitting there staring at a screen, clicking, ad tedium...

If Cryptic had done it that way I can guarantee you there'd be just as many complainers as there is now.  One man's fun is another man's grind... what one man enjoys, another man finds suicidally boring...

I would hate to be the one with a ear peice stuck in my head (cant spell that girls name).  Pretty much anyone other than the captain would suck.  I hear alot of kirk vs picard vs some other captain. Dont hear to many worf vs tuvac. And who would want to be the doctor waiting in the sick room for a engineer to get radiation burns.

No one wants to be another mans b**ch for 15 dollars a month.....Well then again theres alot of freaks out there.
