Could DF be the one for me?

zappafrank71zappafrank71 Member Posts: 19

Hey guys, since i was absence from the MMO world for about 16 months now, due to bad experience with AoC and Tabula Rasa (got closed 1 month after i bought it), i was thinking of joining in some MMO again. I tried out the 10-Day Fallen Earth Trial, and i have to say the game has something special in it. Then again, i got some infos about other MMO that could fit me, namely MO and DF. What apealed me in AoC was actually the open PVP on the PVP servers, but due to the poor game itself i lost interest very soon, esp. after they first nerfed my lvl 50 Demon, then i started a guard, that got nerfed again to a point of unplayability. So this experience made me a little bit more "careful" with subbing to an MMO again. I heard so many good and bad things about DF, i mean what is appealing is the old UO feeling of open PVP i think that is rather thrilling, also the FPS like combat seems more fun to me, because there is actually skill involved. I hope that DF is not another Scam like AoC was, same with MO. I mean if they needed 7 years for Dev. there must be something on it, i guess.  I am just afraid that:

- The starter town mob spawns are completely crowded so PVE would be a complete frustration...

- The whole game is one big gankfest (dont get me wrong i embrace open PVP very much, but if 50 vets hang around the starter towns just waiting for you to come along everytime you step out of the door, then it can get very frustrating, too.

- I heard good things about the crafting system - i actually enjoyed the one in Fallen Earth - is it compareable to UO, i mean is it complex and rewarding?

- Is DF dying already the slow death of AoC or is it kind of alive, with new players coming in?

- Is it already infested by speedhackers and bots like MU? Or did they kind of fix this problem to some extend? I really hate hacking because it ruines every game in the long run.

- Did someone try out DF and MO already? What are the Pro and Cons?

Thanks for some advice!!!

No need to worry about starter town mob spawns being crowded, there are about 3-4 starter area's per race. Plus most the time right outside some of the starter cities you will find bank hubs that contain zap towers, that usally have easy mobs located close by.

    - The whole game is one big gankfest (dont get me wrong i embrace open PVP very much, but if 50 vets hang around the starter towns just waiting for you to come along everytime you step out of the door, then it can get very frustrating, too.

Getting ganked is kinda hit and miss in darkfall since the game is so huge. Yes there will be reds running around newb spawns looking for people to kill. I have been spending quite a bit of time in the human lands for the past 3 days and I have only ran into 1 red. But dont expect to see a red everytime you go out of town. But if you want pvp in darkfall, you can find it sure enough.

    - I heard good things about the crafting system - i actually enjoyed the one in Fallen Earth - is it compareable to UO, i mean is it complex and rewarding?

Crafting is pretty simplistic, you gather the mats, find the workstation you need, enter the amount of items you wish to create, then press create. and depending on what and how many your crafting you just end up sitting there watching a bar fill up. Example, crafting 1 bundle of arrows (20 arrows in a bundle) will take 20 seconds per bundle. So if you plan on turning 100 ingots and 100 wood into arrows be prepaired to watch the bar fill up for 33minutes. There isn't much diffrence between what you craft and the next guy other then durability once you get the trueforge skills. Note: there is a skill that reduces the crafting time, but I have it sitting on 20ish and it only lowered crafting times by 1 second.

Harvesting is the same as crafting, except you just walk up to a node with the correct harvesting tool and click once, your character then starts harvesting (a bar fills up) Most nodes have 51 pieces. Fishing has alot more. It takes around 8-12 seconds to harvest a piece. If your harvesting in the wilderness your only going to get 1 piece per harvest. But if your harvesting off a clans farm/mine/groove etc.. you will get around 1-4 pieces per harvest. If someone bumps into you while your harvesting it cancels your harvest, alot of people use this as a griefing mechanic.

    Haven't tried MO.

No the starter town mobs are not over crowded since people move on and then into a clan then into their towns rather then NPC towns.

The game is a gankfest but not in starter towns. Yes there be a few here and there and sometimes the odd camper but most come make a clean kill loot whatever your harvesting or killing just arrows and gold or harvests and move on.

I have done nothing but crafting since I got back and I played FE but did not offer me a enough to keep playing and its crafting system was to messy even more with limited space

DF is in fact growing. It's more like eve it released and hated and then died or started to then got off their asses and made some good free expansions.

MO great game but not for another 6-12 moths min. Just like DFO came out I would have said the same and did the same.

Also DF coming out with DX11 and double the items including double crafting and much much more.

    I love crafting in DF

Also make sure you join the NEW clan!

Hey guys! thanks for the superfast and enlightening replys. I think i will give DF a chance, at least for one month, seeing how much fun it really is. I mean i can live with beeing ganked here and then, it just belongs to this kind of cruel world i guess and it is part of the thrill. I am just fed up with the easy click and go MMO of these days. I want some thrill and i am willing to take the risk^^. I guess i will start downloading it today. I already bookmarked the page of the NEW clan and i will definately join it. Just ordered my wireless head set on amazon^^. See ya on the EU servers i guess...

It's worth it and if you say get bored but like the game and it happens with this type. You can come back few months later and pay 10 bucks and play for another month of fun and enjoyment. Not like many MMO's there is a lot of return ability and no cost besides the month fee.

For example I'm guessing before summer maybe summer there be the biggest patch yet with DX11 and such. If you say quit 1 month from now you had fun but bored or need to take a break and then come back it has the magic all over again.

Nice and downside about this type of game is you do get burned out fast. Remember this game is not needed to be grinded. You work and play in a Clan there is no need to grind your way since you can still be a ton of use and help during pvp. But we all get burned out on PVP at this hardcoreness and rage quit like the other guy posts today review.

Just do me one fav if you rage quit don't post just the negatives about the game :)

Well i think i am not the hater kind of type, i give every company a chance, no game is perfect, and no game is perfect for everyone anyway. I was just looking for another game to play here and then, get some exitement and maybe a nice community. I have another question, i just downloaded the installer, installed it, now the splash screen is out " Welcome to EU Server" but it doesnt show any downloading advancement or anything? Do i need to click something special? Or do i just have to wait until is finished and it doesnt show the progress?

Question solved, got the email from Aventurine, need to download the torrent^^.....

Just started downloading, might take an hour or so at 1,7mb/s, so it is pretty fast...i really like the moment when you fire up a new MMO and get to now a new world....

    Not true.
    - The whole game is one big gankfest (dont get me wrong i embrace open PVP very much, but if 50 vets hang around the starter towns just waiting for you to come along everytime you step out of the door, then it can get very frustrating, too.
    Doesn't happen.
    - I heard good things about the crafting system - i actually enjoyed the one in Fallen Earth - is it compareable to UO, i mean is it complex and rewarding?
Not very complex but rewarding as the best gear is crafted.
    - Is DF dying already the slow death of AoC or is it kind of alive, with new players coming in?
Low playerbase (or large world), latest expansion has brought many in though
    - Is it already infested by speedhackers and bots like MU? Or did they kind of fix this problem to some extend? I really hate hacking because it ruines every game in the long run.
Never seen hacking in over 2 months, they got banned.
    - Did someone try out DF and MO already? What are the Pro and Cons?
    Can't answer this.

    Thanks for some advice!!!

Id say give it a GO OP get into NEW or West Nile to get started.

Support the sandbox genre and keep a Eye on Mortal as well in the next few month.

If we lose MO and Darkfall the Sandbox genre will be dead and we will only have themepark wow clones to look forward to.

    VIVA LA Sandbox Genre!! lol

    - The starter town mob spawns are completely crowded so PVE would be a complete frustration...

Not really, it's actually just right and sometimes they're empty, leaving the town to yourself as well as the mobs.

    - The whole game is one big gankfest (dont get me wrong i embrace open PVP very much, but if 50 vets hang around the starter towns just waiting for you to come along everytime you step out of the door, then it can get very frustrating, too.

Ganking does happen, but it's not that often, most vets actually look for a challenge.

    - I heard good things about the crafting system - i actually enjoyed the one in Fallen Earth - is it compareable to UO, i mean is it complex and rewarding?

Complex? No. Better than most? yes.

    - Is DF dying already the slow death of AoC or is it kind of alive, with new players coming in?

While I'll disagree that AoC is dying, DFO is not dying, I see new players all the time, and unlike most games, newbie = new account, not new alt.

    - Is it already infested by speedhackers and bots like MU? Or did they kind of fix this problem to some extend? I really hate hacking because it ruines every game in the long run.

I have yet to see a single hacker.

    - Did someone try out DF and MO already? What are the Pro and Cons?

    Pros ;

Fun Combat / Good Mob AI / Decent Crafting / Fun PvP(even if you're losing) / Boats And Water Travel / Huge World

    Cons :

Graphics May Be A Bit Outdated / Gathering Is Really Boring Unless You've Got Something To Do Along Side It / PvP Can Be Really Unbalanced In 1v1 or 2v2.

Hey guys, thanks for answering my questions. I made a brief review about my first days in Agon. I posted it in the general forum, so others can maybe make a better decision if the game fits them or not: I think this game rocks!
