International Servers, Auto-Translator?

Draco91Draco91 Member Posts: 134

I don't remember ever coming across anything mentioning at auto-translator tool for FFXIV as was used in FFXI. Are the servers going to be international the way FFXI's servers were? I've finally gotten around to learning Japanese and I think it would be fun to practice with the japanese players in FFXIV, using the translator whenever I fall short :)

mm!auto-translator?why we need that?since the copy of the gam we got would already be in english (on our computer)

and the server end doesnt need langage since its all 0 an 1 anyways so it does recognise what we do be it in english or french

and the fact keyboard can be put all in english (english being world wide)makes it simple

to have all the same keyboard lay out

the only thing i would miss is what other player are saying.not really a big issue, since we all want to be on same server hive

to play together anyway not really any need to understand what the other is gibering about lol

    make it more interesting challenge

It seems they will be taking it a step further with a better communication system. They specifically wanted better communication of the in-game rules to players. The servers will be international, and thus the reason they are hiring multilingual GMs.

I'm sure you'll find plenty of people to practice on once things start. XD

    Oh, how I miss UO's SysTran. :(

i believe that they said at a press confrance that the auto tranlate that was in FFXI, would make a comback (and likely better).

the servers are going to be international just as they were in FFXI, so having that auto translator in there is kind of a must. Hopefully they make the database of words much bigger, or can even come up with a new and improved version, but it likely will stay the way FFXI had it. ATM i dont have a source but it would be a huge and stupid step back to not have it in 14. Why they could not copy/paste that program into the new game would baffle me, but im 99% sure it will be there. If i get the source il edit it in later.

Yea there will be a auto-translator in place and it will be much improved from the one in FFXI. I forget where I read it. I believe it was a translated article on ffxivcore

"For the Angel of Death spread his wings on the blast,
And breathed in the face of the foe as he passed:
And the eyes of the sleepers waxed deadly and chill,
And their hearts but once heaved, and for ever grew still!"

I remember reading something like that, too.

To me, cross platform, region, and language servers are a given.

One reason I really hope they put region servers up. The fact that I could never get parties with english speakers ruined ffxi for me.

Region servers would just segregate the game's population. If, on a server with both english and japanese players, you can't find a group with english players, then on a server with english players... you just wouldn't be able to find a group at all. With anyone. Because you just cut out the group that you were able to find groups with. The Japanese. You likely were only finding groups with Japanese players because you were playing at Japanese peak times... which is English snooze times ;)

I really, really wish the servers weren't international... I had a lot of good Japanese friends on FFXI but having NA -Only servers would help keep the farming Chinese slaves out...

When has that ever been the case?

Doesn't matter what continent the server is in, the goldsellers get up in it. In fact, working in the NA servers exclusively would be the smart angle based on exchange rates, it's hard to pin a base cost for these services on an international server, but an NA or Euro-only one?... you'll get tailored prices to what they expect to get out of you. Just look at *every* game with NA servers that have goldsellers, and then check the rates they post in other territories.

    Yup.

All you have to do is google FFXIV and you will get a number of sites already advertising Gil for sale for a game that isn't even released yet.  Goldselling sites, and their parasitic workers (and customers), eagerly await each new release, regardless of whether servers are localised or international.

Indeed, it doesn't matter. Otherwise how do you think games even with region IP blocks and segregated servers STILL have gold sellers? Not to mention if anyone comes up with a perfect solution to gold selling and proves it successful, it would probably get copied across the board much more than the "WoW clone" era as no company wants unauthorized third-parties profiting off their game.

I barely remember UO's SysTran, but I guess that's why I could basically understand everyone no matter the weird sounding or incomprehensible names and guilds they had.

Gold/Gil sellers will be there regardless of the server. You can't stop them, only thing you can do is contain them.

There's quite a bit to it beyond that. The #1 thing is about recognizing *how* they make money. Logically they can only farm as fast as any other person, but typically it's an AH system that lets them get rich. Example; FFXI. People would bot the mines and let it run all day, running node to node. I could spent an hour or two doing it manually in order to get lucky and get a bit of darksteel to AH at around 65000 gil (at the time). Imagine how much a botter could get, and the beauty is that they can sell it to impatient players at those prices and make back the gil they just sold them.

Recognizing *how* they make money is the first step to stopping them, but is anyone going deal with there not being an AH system... being forced to deal with people face to face? No.

Things are in place that favor them, and the changing of that formula will peave the very people who swear they would rather have goldsellers have no foothold in the game. Combating this kind of stuff from the ground up, and I mean working through core mechanics and features to see how it benefits hoarding/selling, and the possibilities of automated macros and bots through your interface means everything. Otherwise, you then choose to just deal with them. It's a question of philosophies behind the game vs the conscious decision to do what's needed to affect this form of piracy (that's what I consider it anyway).

When I played FFXI, I played more with NA players (99% of the time)  then Europeen Players, for me English speaking people are easier to understand then, French, German and Spanish people. I am from the Netherlands myself, everytime I came across French, Spanish and German people I had a hard time to understand them, only Japanese are a little harder.

Still with auto translate it is doable, I played often on Japanese times, and sometimes it was fun, but most of the time it was boring. I can understand that Japanese players don't want to be the only one in a English party.

But on the other hand, I like parties that chat a little and have a little fun together. English parties can be just as boring as Japanese parties, when they only pull and kill.

So I really don't want Region servers.

I really want the option for Language servers.

Removing auction from the game doesnt really stop them since they can sell over the internet.  It hurts the player economy more than it hurts them.
