The game is neither 2.95GB nor 661mb, but Rodlin (i think that's the name, the guy saying the positives of DnL) is the one saying the truth here. Though of course it is a little bit exaggerated at parts. The person who said negative things about DnL has NO idea what he is talking about.
Yet again, believe who you want, because I don't care and it won't change my views on Dark and Light, nor ruin my life.
I couldn't take it anymore, I had to say something.
Man please don't be an idiot. I am talking about the actual gameplay. Those ideas are great. I personally love everyone of them. Wish sounded great too but the gameplay was horrible. Asking for some answers about the gameplay and you are quoting what a game is promising? What game doesn't promise alot? The great part is look up the definition of ignorance you fool. It means being uninformed. Which is what alot of people (even on there own site) are saying about their own game. Don't ever get into law or join a debate team for that matter. Unreal.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------- you bash a game cause of an article said it had bad gameplay, yet you call me ignorant? if you have no idea what you are talking about and believe the biased views of articles which have brought down far too many games, then you are trully a fool.. if you would spend time understanding the situation and seeing what is trully happening you would have understand what i'm talking about. but you have absolutely no clue whether gameplay is bad or whether its going to be like this in game,Yet you keep saying it will just be like horizons, using a biased moot opinion from someone who might well not be speaking the complete truth. Please if you have no idea what you are talking about, then dont bash a game, especialy not cause of someone's article which shows 1 point of view. i really hope the NDA gets lifted soon,in order to let people give you feedback on this... eventhen, you have to be pretty stupid to believe such articles and take their opinions for facts.. also note that the game is in early beta (as they said in the article) with few content implemented (as wotann said),so basing your opinion and idea of a game on an rant about that state of beta,is just plain redicoulous. and yes,its what people would call ignorance.you have no idea what you are talking about, and dont know what to believe.hence, take critism AND praise with a bit of salt and base your opinion when you get the chance to do so,claiming its just another horizons now is just..farfetch,redicoulous,and yes ignorant.
yet i'm the idiot heh
Well this will be my last post on this. Where do you see me bashing this game? Keep checking because I never did. I bashed the lack of info man. Nice try. I think you got your posts mixed up the other guy is bashing the game. How can I bash or praise a game I haven't even played? That is the message I have been trying to get across to others. /sigh

Darksoul, all you have proved is that your a crazy fanboy. Its always fun to call people names and ignorant because they dont share your point of view. These defs explain you very well http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=fanboy&r=f.
jeez... in one day? then u mean in one day theres 11 pages of posts... in one day theres a shitload of arguments? arg... man dis thread should be moved to dnl cetegory, not under general discussion
i think both beta testers r rite. i trust rad cuz most of the things he says seems and is true.i trust cain cuz his point is true, every new game does start out bad, but it leaves room to improve. i trust rad wen he says the game should be bigger than 2.59 or 2.69 gb. i trust both wen they say they have accnts. but u guys should chill (think cain alrdy did =P) after all, its only a game. games come and go, but RL is forever....well maybe not ur life but ... the world outside the gaming industry
i do expect the game to come out in april 30, the devs themselves theyre gonna be in a tight schedule but theyre gonna try to get it there.
btw, if everyone liked wut every other person liked, dis world wud be so boring. at first this thread wus ok cuz it spread some info between the ppl dat had info on the game and those w/out. but after reading like 10 pages... its just gotta stop. i dun want this post to become like another WOW IS BETTER THAN EQII or vis versa. i think we shud just wait and see wut happens wen it DOES come out. btw, they're gonna have everything out at the release cept for some characters and water based stuff... from wut i heard. if u want proof, just search the darknlight website, im too lazy to look for it myself. dat and the dev chats.
i know dat even though i asked u guys to stop dis wont stop, so.... have fun flamming... might not seem like it but it is in a way
While apposed to his bad grammer (just jokin' around bro) gfboixx is right. Ya'll calm down. For the negitive one, the game is/was not entirely completed yet, they have battle video's out and it looks just fine to me (if ya want the links just ask). For the good one, I hope what all you say is true, but I have to guess it's a little bit bias. Hopefully we're in for a good game.
hey! dont mock my grammar. well, sorry if my grammar sux, but dis is how i talk to friends, and im too lazy to make it all proper and crap. I don't want to type like this, it takes way too long for me...well not too long but I just get lazy and I start to mess up, so yeah.

Several times you have stated that you sent an e-mail to the developers and that they "replied". What exactly was their reply, if I may ask? That could be pertinent information. Also, I don't mean to critique you, nor am I trying to insult you, but those who make a living with the written word often are more attentive to their spelling and grammar. Are you paid by the website for whom you work, or are you a volunteer? Do you own/operate the site? And, ofcourse, I would not ask for any of this information were it not for the fact that you have entered the arena of a public forum and opened yourself to the masses for questioning. Thank you.

P.S. Also, you state that you were given two keys to "test" from two different vantage points. Where is the second vantage point? Is it forthcoming? Should we assume that since they were given to you to "test" that they were not given to you to "review"? Again, this is information that could go a long way in determining your motives and objectivity.
EDIT: Ok, I did my homework, http://www.rpgamer.com/bios/jwalker.html , so graphics are what you have experience with. Please disregard all writing questions. You did praise D&L's graphics so we should be pleased that they are, in your opinion, up to snuff. The other questions are still on the table though, if you would answer them when you can.
This is by far the best thread I have ever read...
Everyone is just sitting here complaining about everything and criticizing everything.
I Love reading these things. keep it up!
By the way, I like whoever said the thing about... "Its better when these kind of games come out online for a couple months before they release in stores, because then the pepole who actaully have an interest in it can play it while the people who buy it because they got a certain score in PC gamer have to wait"
It does seem hard to believe the Cain guy who states that the game is only 661 MB. Dark and Light looks to be way too big and have far too many features to get packed into that kinda size. I wonder if it could be 661MB as a zip file however. That sounds more realistic anyhow.
I guess I just want to believe Radlin here with all his talk of great smooth battles and the spells deflecting off shields and being able to use a shield as a weapon. Mobs throwing objects and rocks at mages to try and knock their concentration off or knock em down and them run up to them to close the distance just sounds uhhhh. too damn good to be true.
If even HALF of what this Radlin guys says is true, then man DnL is gonna kick some major ass is all I gotta say. If even half of the promised features on the DnL website are true and work smoothly in the released game, then this game will also kick some major ass.
The thing is what motives would each have to lie about their own experiences in the beta?? Maybe they both saw the same thing except for Radlins machine and internet connection were a lot better and smoother and because of that alone, they saw completely different games. I know how frustrated I used to get in my old UO days when I'd lose my internet connection or my computer would freeze up right in the heat of a battle with a lich lord or another player or something. When I had a stable connection and honestly when I put more ram into my computer and it froze up less... the game was soooo much more smooth and more enjoyable.
As far as the size of the game files... I have no idea but i would tend to believe 2.5 GB over 661 MB. Who knows. I guess all of us that weren't quite so lucky to be included in the beta will just have to wait until the game releases... and for that matter here is where I really hope Rad is correct when he says April for sure. I look sooo forward to parachting and shielding over snow covered mountains and riding a dragon and watching the sun set over the ocean beaches etc etc.
I am really looking forward to this game, and have been for an awfully long time. But now somehow the website of "Vanguard" also looks very appealing and gives me something to look forward to just incase Mourning and/or DnL don't sprout into the flowers they promise. Atleast with Vanguard there promises to be PvP and Item drop on death which I greatly desire back in an mmo. There is also lots of skills and great screenshots already. And the best part is it is being published by Microsoft. Somehow I don't worry so much over a game by Microsoft being released, as I totally trust them. It's all these never before heard of foreign companies that seem to have no loyalty built with them yet that are so hard to believe in when they promise the world like Mourning and DnL have promised.
Time will tell, in the meantime this thread has been a VERY entertaining read. Turned into almost a Jerry Springer show a few times, but hey... It's all good. {grabs the popcorn..}
Knowing that the information from closed beta was going to be disclosed via RPGamer's article, perhaps the dev's of DnL gave Cain 2 crippled accounts. What I mean is maybe in order to keep some information from being disclosed they left a lot of information out of the client that they gave to Cain. So yea, i vote for the option that wasn't in that poll, both are correct I think.. If i was developing a game like DnL, you can be damned sure i would go to unreal lengths to make sure valuable information is not leaked. setting up some crippled accounts seems logical in my eyes.
Well you wont get the people enjoying the beta, and doing the right thing(working with the Devs), doing anything to harm their beta account... so I guess you wont get balance here. People don't want to know if they are enjoying the game. That's a matter of opinion. What we want to know what this guy commented on. Things like chopiness and lagness in combat, movement and overall play. Wish had it and it sucked. DnL devs are just gutless trying to hide behind their NDA at this point especially if they are sticking to their self proclaimed release date. What a f ing joke. I was so ready for this game. Now I am beginning to think this is just a crock of sh@t
Did you read his second post... he wrote add this : "it is still very early into its beta life"
I would say if these quotes are real, he made them a long time ago, and not this year. Look at this for lag and game play elements... the visuals can at least speak out http://www.darkandlight.net/videos/E3_Trailer_lowdef.avi (62MB, DivX)
Im sorry but these trailers are just intentented to impress people and have very little base in the real life game. They only show only what they want you to see and show places with some content even theough the game probaly is missing 90 percent of it. Look at any pre-overhyped game like EQ2, WoW among others. Any mmorpg can make a decent looking trailer but it can be a horriable game.
Derfel, I know that this was a while ago in this thread that this was posted, but i would still like to comment on it. I dont know where your coming from saying the videos are only window shopping. If your view would indeed be the truth, then hear this, just a few comparative examples.
Basically what you are saying is that any company or person can take something and make it look great, based on 10% of that actual product that is great.
Example 1: A company is advertising that you need to drink water, or at least some type of liquid comtaining H2O, in order for you to actually be alive. You look at the commercial and say to yourself "Oh what a total load of sh##$, they are only showing us the good parts of water. Water in itself is so damn over hyped becuase of the media given on it, I dont really need to drink it to be alive"....
Example 2: You see any product that you own on TV being advertised. Lets say for this cercumstance that you dont already own the product, but the media is going to sell it to you based on commercials, "window shopping". Every product you see, you put the same view that you have on Dark and Light. "Ohh, they are only showing us the good 10% of that shirt, or that car, or that MP3 player. Ive never actually tried the product, but i know that they are just showing us the good parts".
If you had this view on life, I honestly dont see how you are alive. Every where you go if you apply this view you would be hungry, thirsty, lonely, and naked.
Where is your backing that those videos are only "window shopping". Where did you come up with that? Is it all based on some article that was written at the beginning of beta, by ONE guys opinion? If you can really let ONE opinion ruin something for you, without actually trying it out, then i feel sorry for you. If your own opinion can be manipulated that easily by ONE person blabbing off about a game in its infant stages of release, then i feel sorry for you.

1) RPGamer is volounteer. Just the same we do have standards, requirements, and expectations, as we are a professional organization--much like most games sites. 2) Jeff's general work on the site is making graphics and layouts, but whomever PLAYS a given game is the one who writes the impression--that only makes sense. 3) Not that it really matters, but no, Jeff does not own RRPGamer. 4) The second account has not been activated. This is going to be a series of impressions--an ongoing feature. The second one will appear after other features have been introduced and tested.
Finally, about the NDA, while releasing info about the game is kosher, printing my conversations with Public Relations representatives is definitely not okay. The description Jeff (Cain) gave you is more than sufficient. Thank You.
Well time to drop the topic. The NDA wasnt breached, and the post initiated here was words out of context. I suggest everyone go and read the real article and not just what was extracted from it. I am sorry That I might have been a bit aggressive on my posts but the initial person didnt paste a link. End of discussion, case closed Now lets go listen to some Bob Marley

Ok, now I would like to explain why that information is important. Whether or not Jeff owns RPGamer or is paid for his work was important to establish what he potentially had to gain from a rise in traffic to that site. The site is laden with advertisements and it stands to reason that compensation in some form is there and increases at the very least potentially with the traffic. What you lay before us is that you (RPGamer) was granted access to a game that has as strict an NDA as any MMO that I've known of. Not only were you given access, but you were given a pardon to that same strict NDA. Now, we are also to believe that NPCube granted you this access without so much as a "News is coming soon" to a community that is starved for information. As if this alone is not enough, we are now asked to swallow that when this gift was given to RPGamer, they put their heads together while planning how best to use this wondrous opportunity and decided that the one man best suited to delve into the guts of this potentially revolutionary game was a man whom describes his gaming experience as thus:
"So, a little about me? Well, I'm pretty much a casual gamer in every respect. I rarely buy games new, including many of the more popular ones. In fact, I've never even finished Xenogears. Yes, I own it in the original shipping. Please don't mob me too hard."
You will excuse me if I become just a little bit incredulous. Now some of these things I may be forced to accept. The next few days will likely show just how much. If everything is exactly the way you are portraying it, there is more than one fool involved in this tale.
But, that's why I asked the questions. Thank you for your answers.
Runing across the world in 6hrs doesn't sound right to me. The game is 40,000Km^2, which is ruffly 200km x 200km. I think 200km is a lot of land to cross on foot in 6hrs. I guess he could have used some form of transportation that was not mentioned.
I could belive 600mb game size. The game is not 100% hand crafted. In fact for the most part it randomly generated. Meaning its possible that as large as the world is, the textures and models could be reused quite a bit.

Again, I bring up Horizons. Go watch some of the videos of 'gameplay' they released. Then get the trial and play it. Not a single bit in common. 'Gameplay' videos can be enhanced to look much better than the game actually plays, and it's done as a very common practice- so long as the initial source was the game engine, I suppose it's somewhat kosher.
No one applies this in every situation, but if you've been around gaming long, you should have learned to have a healthy skepticism. Marketing is designed to do one thing- present the product as attractively as possible without TECHNICALLY misrepresenting. When you go to Wendy's or McDonalds, does the product you get look like what you see in the menu pictures? Nope, but it does resemble it.
Is this the case here? I have no idea, and no one outside the staff there at DnL does. But it's entirely possible. An NDA just keeps anyone from knowing the truth of the matter, and the devs sure aren't talking- this close to release, there should be more information available.
Ah, well- people will either be impressed or disappointed. Time will tell- but putting any credence in videos or screenshots is a tremendous mistake, unless they come from a neutral source.

yeh,it took awhile before i realized it but most "dnl sucks" posters here are just troll-fanbois (i said most, not all) who have no arguments to back up their bashes. rational discussion is beyond grasp with these, hence i wont even spend time anymore to prove their arguments to be wrong and that they hold no ground..
some guys here atleast have made some good arguments and had ground to hold on too, cheers, but so many where just random trolls bashing it in the hope to decrease dnl's popularity... keep trying i'm having a blast with these trolls
The current beta game world is only one kingdom, so it's 1/12th of the total size. It would take about 6 hours to run across the current area.
Otherwise, the preview is pretty accurate. That said, there are massive combat changes coming up in a patch very soon, as well as some land management stuff that the devs have been pretty vague about beyond "sim-city like". I have no idea what that means. Give it time. The game will probably be delayed, but I doubt it will suck when it comes out.
EDIT: And yes, the data is currently about 660MB total. I suspect it's because of the way they calculate terrain, since they only have to know height data, not each polygon. There are no interactive NPCs yet (only a small set of monsters) so that's another chunk that doesn't have to exist. Of the three bestiary posts made on the official site, I've only seen the Shul in game. Plus probably 7-8 other monster types.
EDIT2: Oh, and the reason he never saw anyone in game is because the MOST I've ever seen online at the same time is around 40-45 people. There just aren't that many players right now.
"Where did you come up with that? Is it all based on some article that was written at the beginning of beta, by ONE guys opinion? You know something ? all this wouldnt have happened if the guys would allow beta testers to share their impressions . The comunity discusses relying on the comments of ONE guy because as much as it surprises me only ONE guy was allowed to actually POST impressions . The coment of someone else was interesting it went more or less like this :
"knowing that he was going to share that info on the web they might have given him a crippled account"
I tend to be open minded and do try to not spit judgements immediately , but these very developers just reinforce those doubts with that info-censure. Now to somethign else
" If the original poster would have posted the entire article and the link this wouldnt have happened "
Now first thing first :
The original poster , me, didn't knew that the entire MMorpg comunity had no info whatsoever about DnL . He reads an article about a game which sounds interesting , and copies and pastes the negative aspects with the purpose of asking opinions from people that might Know more , thus helping him to shape an impresion of his own about this game . That because he knows this site here has a lot of experienced players that can give reliable opinions as much as different from eachother
And now to the link I said it before and i say it now , I WOULDNT HAVE PASTED THAT LINK !! Knowing that there are absoulte Blind fanboy teenies which sole life purpose is to be a diehard fan of some game , and which can go as far as to fill your site with insults , mail viruses and personal attacks if they see you bash their monthly reason of living be that DnL , WOW or Mommas cakes for what matters . I was going to try and explain this very reason just like i did .
But the article writer came here on his own, and his comments were not " You Teh Suq111 , you have no idea , While me so competent and Cool iz " No he said that the game had its good and bad sides , tried to be calm and apologised for a "Mess " I Created!!
Again on me , as i said i pasted here only what i wanted comments on , absolutely unaware of the fact that there was No info of any kind about the game .
take care

I find it hard to believe you were "just looking for info" when you selectively grab only the negative points from an early impression, leave out the positives, then just post those negatives without giving sources. Sounds like just a troll attempt to me. I am not stating this as a fanboi, but merely as a neutral observer. I don't have much vested in DnL. I hope it lives up to the promises, but there is far to little for me to make a judgement yet. I am afraid this may end up being vapourware. I sincerely hope not. But even from that point of view, I feel the OP was trolling.
I am also skeptical that npCube gave that other site permision to post info about the game when there is almost nothing on the official site, and added to this, the NDA is so strict that beta testers are not even allowed to state that they are beta testers. Added to this is the escuse that they didn't activate the second account because they wanted to give a second impression at a later date. Well, could they not give that second impression with the same account as they gave the first one? It seems to me that they broke NDA to get traffic to their site and are reserving the second beta account for later because they knew they would lose the first one. So they have a second account under some as yet unnamed person so they can break NDA again later.

You know something ? all this wouldnt have happened if the guys would allow beta testers to share their impressions . The comunity discusses relying on the comments of ONE guy because as much as it surprises me only ONE guy was allowed to actually POST impressions . The coment of someone else was interesting it went more or less like this :
take care
Just going to comment on this one part. From my point of view, the guy i originally quoted said he thought this game was 10% actual decent game, and 90% hype.
The reason i stated that his opinions could be changed by ONE negative review, was because of how you posted it. Dont get me wrong, I realize that your intentions where to just post he part that you wanted discussed, but it totally backfired and turned into an argument.
Derfel posted his part before the actual link to the whole article was posted. When people read your post before the link to the main article was up, all they saw was some guy bashing the game without a source for his quotes. For all we know, you could have made up the quotes in an attempt to make another "this games going down the toilet" posts that have been around lately. (check out the Mourning thread)
Once again, I understand what your original intentions where. Despite that, I think it would have been much better if the whole article was posted, representing both the good and the bad. I think that if you wanted people to comment on that fairly, both good and bad sides should be represented. If you just post an un-sourced negative quote, it only appears as an attempt at trolling.
Now, in your post that im commenting to above, you stated that all of this wouldnt have happened if beta testers are allowed to share their impressions. First, I would think there is a good reason for this. I highly doubt that NPCube (dev's) would keep all of the info under a curtain in an attempt to sabatoge their own game. Then again i could be very wrong, I have seen wierder things in this world. Second, when you first posted this thread, those one guys "impressions" where totally mis-represented in your post. I think if you would have shared the whole article of impressions, then maybe so many arguments wouldnt have sparked.
Your part about saying the MMORPG knows nothing what-so-ever about DnL is actually wrong. We know alot about it. But actually hearing words from an actual tester (or what we later found out was an actual tester when he came foward), and only hearing his negative words, that kind of makes people scared. I actually feel that Craig was mis-represented in his post. He got flamed and death threats becuase his view was in fact manipulated by only being shown the negative parts.
If you where worried if you posted the original site, that the author and site managers would get hate mail and spamming, then I think you should have written an e-mail to them asking if you would be allowed to post their whole article with the link and sources attached. That would have cooled peoples tempers a bit if they saw that the article had good things to say also, instead of just negative things.
Edit: Sorry if this double posts, this site sometimes doesnt post the first time.

We could have prevented this mess.
The original poster should have posted the WHOLE article with the link... bad form
Darksoul, all you have proved is that your a crazy fanboy. Its always fun to call people names and ignorant because they dont share your point of view. These defs explain you very well http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=fanboy&r=f.
in 1 day this has made it to tenth most active topic, plus we got a few beta testimonies, not completely reliable, but testimonies nonetheless.
Make of it what you will.
jeez... in one day? then u mean in one day theres 11 pages of posts... in one day theres a shitload of arguments? arg... man dis thread should be moved to dnl cetegory, not under general discussion
i think both beta testers r rite. i trust rad cuz most of the things he says seems and is true.i trust cain cuz his point is true, every new game does start out bad, but it leaves room to improve. i trust rad wen he says the game should be bigger than 2.59 or 2.69 gb. i trust both wen they say they have accnts. but u guys should chill (think cain alrdy did =P) after all, its only a game. games come and go, but RL is forever....well maybe not ur life but ... the world outside the gaming industry
i do expect the game to come out in april 30, the devs themselves theyre gonna be in a tight schedule but theyre gonna try to get it there.
btw, if everyone liked wut every other person liked, dis world wud be so boring. at first this thread wus ok cuz it spread some info between the ppl dat had info on the game and those w/out. but after reading like 10 pages... its just gotta stop. i dun want this post to become like another WOW IS BETTER THAN EQII or vis versa. i think we shud just wait and see wut happens wen it DOES come out. btw, they're gonna have everything out at the release cept for some characters and water based stuff... from wut i heard. if u want proof, just search the darknlight website, im too lazy to look for it myself. dat and the dev chats.
i know dat even though i asked u guys to stop dis wont stop, so.... have fun flamming... might not seem like it but it is in a way
While apposed to his bad grammer (just jokin' around bro) gfboixx is right.
I think any information you can provide would not only be most helpful to this debate, but would go a long way in promoting said web site. Please understand, I'm not attempting to degrade you, I just think that some further details could really clarify alot of this for all of us. And, ofcourse, I would not ask for any of this information were it not for the fact that you have entered the arena of a public forum and opened yourself to the masses for questioning. Thank you.
Ed
Thats right
It does seem hard to believe the Cain guy who states that the game is only 661 MB.
Time will tell, in the meantime this thread has been a VERY entertaining read. Turned into almost a Jerry Springer show a few times, but hey... It's all good. {grabs the popcorn..}

Something to consider:
Knowing that the information from closed beta was going to be disclosed via RPGamer's article, perhaps the dev's of DnL gave Cain 2 crippled accounts. What I mean is maybe in order to keep some information from being disclosed they left a lot of information out of the client that they gave to Cain. So yea, i vote for the option that wasn't in that poll, both are correct I think.. If i was developing a game like DnL, you can be damned sure i would go to unreal lengths to make sure valuable information is not leaked. setting up some crippled accounts seems logical in my eyes.
End of discussion, case closed
Now lets go listen to some Bob Marley
right but now we're discussing the credibilty of the afore-mentioned article...
oh and for the record, "listening" to bob marley is like scraping nails across a chalkboard.
1) RPGamer is volounteer. Just the same we do have standards, requirements, and expectations, as we are a professional organization--much like most games sites.

Phew! Nice one people - i really enjoyed that one.
Some good insults there as well as some interesting info - keep it up!
Bite me, Turbine.

yeh,it took awhile before i realized it but most "dnl sucks" posters here are just troll-fanbois (i said most, not all) who have no arguments to back up their bashes.
rational discussion is beyond grasp with these, hence i wont even spend time anymore to prove their arguments to be wrong and that they hold no ground..
some guys here atleast have made some good arguments and had ground to hold on too, cheers, but so many where just random trolls bashing it in the hope to decrease dnl's popularity...
keep trying i'm having a blast with these trolls
And now to the link
I said it before and i say it now , I WOULDNT HAVE PASTED THAT LINK !!
Again on me , as i said i pasted here only what i wanted comments on , absolutely unaware of the fact that there was No info of any kind about the game .
