You just get done trying out a new game or something? You seem a bit peeved.
1. For god's sake mmo gamers, enough with the analogies. They're unnecessary and your comparisons are terrible, dissimilar, and illogical.
2. To posters feeling the need to state how f2p really isn't f2p: Players understand the concept. You aren't privy to some secret the rest are missing. You're embarrassing yourself.
3. Yes, Cpt. Obvious, we're not industry experts. Now run along and let the big people use the forums for their purpose.
Well, count me in. They ran me off , going to go back to consoles for the first time in 10 years. Maybe Ill actually have some fun again till a decent mmorpg comes out that I like.
Not gonna happen, MMO players have zero patience and lack common sense. They will always buy something either because "everyone else is going to", or "because the devs behind it are gods (for now)".

I have never bought a game on release and don't ever plan to except for some really hyped up games like GW2, FF14 and SWTOR but that's after ive tried beta. Nowadays all games released are half finished and usually represent what should've been in release after about 6 months to a year.

I'm sorry, but in all honesty can you say you never bought an new MMO in it's first month after launch?

I agree 100%. If a game comes out that is not 100% complete then we should all return the game and get are money back! I mean how much longer are they goin to screw over mmo gamers by releasing open betas, and makin us pay for it? This is madness! lol... seriously though dont let these publishers push us around. Console games come out completed and have little to no bugs. They cost 60 bucks! New mmo's cost around 50 and a mounthly fee! Think about it! We cant let them keep doin this crap

Yup, never have. The only exception to this could be Atlantica that i believe i started playing in the first month of release but it was a free game and i had no clue when it was released.
Lol i guess im pretty patient in that sense, i won't deny being very tempted to buy some games like fallen earth on release but i knew it would be alot better in 6 or so months so i restrained. I thought i would buy mortal online the day it released but yeh that won't happen either.
Also think there should be an open beta for all games, and not the kind where you have to pay a server host to get in. Console games, which require much less money and funds, most often have some sort of demo. If they want investors, they have to give us at least a taste. Just like STO...I was actually going to pre-order until I tried it out.. It's really the only way to keep companies accountable. Just look at what open beta did for AoC.
Sadly it seems that people will buy anything as long as it is stamped with "MMORPG" somewhere on the description.
I have been fan of MMORPG's for a very long time and bought a lot of games as soon as they launched. The past two years I have been able to control my urge and wait a few months or more and boy is that a relief! I often end up not buying it at all, simply because the urge slowly goes away as more and more critical reviews and comments reach the internet. I can only recommend it, but i also know how hard it can be.
We want a good MMORPG to capture our imagination and everytime we hope the next one is the one that will do that, so we invest in it. I still have to hide my credit cards around launch days for MMORPG's and until everyone does that (which I don't expect will ever happen) sub-par games will still earn money to the developers/publisher and so, sadly, they will continue to exist.
We have a gaming media that hypes up forthcoming games as do the MMO companies and fanboys. We have people buying betas and pre ordering, buying before any proper review of the game has been made. I never buy a game before the first reviews after launch. I never buy a MMO now before 3 months after launch. If more gamers thought like this the quality of games at launch would shoot up.
If fans of this genre don't stop buying trash MMOs that are released too early, we can expect to see more unfinished and over-priced games.
Most likely you would not really see better games released, just alot fewer of them. Money is the reason you can't really work on an MMO as long as you like, 5-6 years of dev time really costs quite a bit. So that means only the super rich studios would be able to release games at all.
I don't really believe devs are just out to make a quick buck on box sales, the reason games release early is because there simply is no more money, and they need money to pay their people, they are actual people, not robots that can work 24/7 without anything but a powercord connected to the back of their heads.
Ah, someone mentioned console games, first off, a console game takes about a year or two to make, an mmo takes over 4 years.
Second, am MMO have servers to maintain, and you (as far is im aware) always get more content after release in patches.
Third, a console game or your standard shooter game have about 6-12 hours of content, mmos have several days of content.
Also, could someone please mention atleast one (1) MMO that released "complete"?
If there is money to be made, there is venture capital to spend.
It's a shame, but good MMOs take more money & time than you think they do to make - and in a "have it now" society, profits dwindle the longer you wait.
Its a business and quality is a bi-product (too bad its not a gamer's utopia, ah well).

Stop buying? Hell stop preordering 6 months out and buying lifetime subs while the game is in beta.Throwing money at anything doesnt improve the product it just depletes your pocket.

The new content usually comes in the form of expansions which you are charged extra for, in alot of cases, another $30. If you don't like the game, or expansions for that matter, you cannot get your money back usually due to software open box policies or download policies you must agree to before ever seeing the content. Now before someone barks off that you can trial most games for free that is true and good (I recently trialed FE and it is far too buggy to warrant me spending any dough on it atm, perhaps when they are fixed), I know of zero expansions ever released in which you are allowed to try before you buy.
If we want our games to stop "sucking", then we need to get some updated sofware laws through congress. If we buy a game and it sucks then we should be able to return it for a FULL refund. Imagine how many current games wouldn't even exist or would have died early (as a few should have) if people could easily get their money back after buying a buggy or incomplete game.
If I go and buy a brand new Silverado and on my drive home the truck stalls evey time I stop at a stop sign and I must turn it off and wait 10 seconds before it will run again I am going to be really pissed off. I'd drive that sukker right back the the dealership and get my down payment back, demand they shread all the financing paperwork in front of me, then go next door to their competitors dealership and get another brand of truck. Of course, there are laws protecting our rights when buying "consumer" goods but when "leasing" software we have almost no rights at all. Software laws are way behind the times and until that changes we are going to keep seeing an abundance of sub-par games.

Sorry, but I still dinnay believe it. Everyone is guilty of this, and they only slip by if people simply didn't have knowledge of the game yet.

Do people really think the MMO genre and its customers are really all that special compared to any other entertainment genre?
Forever looking for employment. Life is rather dull without it.
