    When was this written?

  • blacksacblacksac Member Posts: 1,045
He says it was early beta in the article, but he has not put up a date... sorry I dont know
  • [Mordecai][Mordecai] Member Posts: 15

Welll if they are really sticking to the april release I'd say that it is in late beta right now. Could be a huge difference in combat, and thats one of the last things perfected in any mmorpg.

They have very different opinions (on mmorpg.com thread). I don't really believe anyone of them, at least not on the points they disagree. If I did believe any of them, it wouldn't matter anyway. When the game is released (not necessarily April), we will see for ourselves.

Dude, blacksac, there is already a thread about this that you could have linked to.
    http://www.mmorpg.com/discussion.cfm/load/forums/loadforum/51/loadthread/33601/setstart/1/loadclass/35

Heck, you even commented in that very thread? What gives, man? ::::37::

  • stone-seraphstone-seraph Member Posts: 376

probably because that thread is 11 pages of people challenging other people's credibility, trolling, hyping, and flaming. Blacksac probably put this here in hopes that it would actually become some sort of conversation over the article, good luck there heh.

Make of it what you will.

    40000sqkm IS roughly 25000 miles. Last I remember 1 mile = 1.7 (or 1.65?) KM.

    40,000 km^2 = 15444 mi^2
i totally did it on a metric conversion web site . . .

I wanted to start this information off the way it should have started in the first place with the WHOLE article linked and available... btw linking to a poorly started thread is messy, this way you go straight to the source of the information that the thread is really about anyway. image

PS: About conversions - When your converting from a squared number to another squared number its not a direct conversion, you have to square root the first number then convert THAT number, then you times the new number by itself to get the correct conversion.

well i dont know what you did but its actaully

40000 squared Kilometers equals 24854.8 squared Miles (statute)

I totally did it on my calculator where 1 Kilometers equals 0.621371 Miles

And the math was pretty hard 40000 x 0.621371 image

  • stone-seraphstone-seraph Member Posts: 376

as it was said before, as we are using squared units you must square the ratio and then multiply, try that and see what you come up with . . .

//now everyone who has taken basic algebra knows, you must do to one side what you do to the other

    1 km = .621371 mi
    (1 km)^2 = (.621371 mi.)^2
    1 km^2 = 0.386101919641 mi^2
    1 km^2 * 40000 = 0.386101919641 mi^2 * 40000
    40000 km^2 = 15444 mi^2

Make of it what you will.

Square the Units first????? DOH!   Ok multply is one thing but your asking too muchimage

Oh man, your so right.  Thx for pointing out how dumb I am.

Yeah I took math 30 in school, but that was like 11 years ago.

The front page of the RPGamer site says this preview was posted on February 6 - 2/3 days ago.

Maybe the preview was written a while ago, but the NDA didn't allow them to post it until know. Unlikely I know, but theoretically possible. After all, the preview does interchange the words races and classes. Maybe some last minute editing was done.

EDIT: Bugger it. I should have read the 12 page "debate" in the pub before I posted this. Looks like there's two completely different beta reports. This one in the article and one by another ex-tester who thinks the game is ready to ship now. Never seen two beta reports conflict so much.

I reckon the author was beta testing during December. That version tended to crash rather often back then. It's a lot better since the January patch.

It's true hat there are no customization  options and only 5 selected races available in the beta. Other races have been available in past beta versions, a fact shown in older screenies and videos. Customization will come by the time of release - It's not needed now, so why should it be implemented yet?

The feature that has impressed me the most is the awesome weather engine. I've never seen a game with such immersive weather. Snow building up in winter and melting when temerature rises. Trees bending in strong winds. - I can imagine Faeries beeing tossed like dust in the wind image

Ah, OK. That does make sense, now that I look at the other thread and realize that it has basically come down to mudslinging and is now very little about Dark and Light. Good call.

As for this: "I reckon the author was beta testing during December." He tested it through the latter half of January and is still progressing through the testing.

Just want to note for those who are still not convinced that the information was allowed to be released:

Update: The RPGamer article has been rewitten... image

  • FinduilasFinduilas Member Posts: 377

Bit of a stupid article that.

The way is runs into a discussion talking about COH with bothering to place a title in between the 2.

Not much of an impression there either.

I'll play it myself and decide, especially if I can download for free, since I won't rue the initial cost.

  • OrccOrcc Member Posts: 3,043

Ya whats up with the article? Also, About the 15000m conversion, I was still right, since they werent squared ::::35:: But yes I see not the error.

What? I'm gonna smack that kid -_-
What exactly was changed? I see the addition of the magic thing that was left out before. Is there anything else?

Uh, did you bother to read it? It turns into a review for City of Heroes randomly.

wth??? they cut out the entire bad review part of the article and put a review of CoH in instead...?????

    what the hell is that?

  • stone-seraphstone-seraph Member Posts: 376

i am so very confused, maybe the guy was just fed up with the crap he was getting about how it was all untrue, even though it probably was, people just didn't want to hear their game get bashed.

After talking to Jeff, it was an error in programming. He's fixing it as we speak. Darn kids and their music.

I really apologize about that. We had run into an HTML error earlier with the new preview templates. We'd recently done a massive site redesign, and the preview/impression template was done just before the Dark and Light impression.

I'd written two impressions and coded this layout at the same time. We posted the impression of Dark and Light but ran into some compatibility issues with Safari that weren't caught until recently. I had fixed them, but in the course of doing so, I'd uploaded three templates. One was Dark and Light with City of Heroes stuck in the third paragraph and on. I had made a note to remember that I made this error, but I forgot that note.

The problem has been rectified, and I offer my sincere apologies for this mixup. The Dark and Light impression is now JUST the Dark and Light impression.
