The game is not horrible, better than PotBS OB for sure. There is a lot of promise in the space combat, I love how tactical hard fights get with the shield 'shuffling' and changing between optimizations. Finally, a game where your movement or lack of actually has a huge and direct impact.

That being said, I can definitely understand why many Trekkies are disappointed about the game. It's basically an unpolished Guild Wars on the away missions, with the addition of space combat, which is in all cases always instanced.

If somehow they had integrated a massive world element into this game, and made space exploration more intuitive and free-roaming rather than auto-piloting from system to system.

You will not see open worlds or massive environments here.  With polish, certainly the game can be entertaining.

Sad part is that people who are satisfied, enjoy playing the game while whiners cry on forums. Its obvious they are always the most vocal ones. Co is not dying neither is STO, but nothing tastes better then tears of 40 year old Trekkies (yuckk)!

I'm 30, but thanks for guessing.  I know I'm mature for my age. ;)

And I'm not whining at all.  I don't see anyone whining.  All I posted was that a friend tried the game and we liked it.  I also posted that in my opinion, this will bring a lot of new MMO players (like the friend I mentioned) to the game.

Sure, every game will have their haters.  I just don't really get why they feel the need to comment on every positive thread for a game.  There are games I don't like and I'll make one, maybe two or three comments about my experiences, and then I move on.

I spend more time discussing things I like and enjoy, but perhaps that's just me.  I could spend an hour a day in the EVE forum telling all the EVE players how much their game sucks but, yaknow, I have better things to do and I don't mind that some people like a game that I dislike.

I love onions.  Some people hate them.  Shall we have a discussion with rabid division between people who like and dislike onions?  Christ.  Isn't it enough to say, "I dislike onions, I don't eat them" - or do you have to explain, in full detail, to every single person that mentions onions, how much you truly hate and despise them, and then give 10 reasons why?

I have a lot of free time but ya'll must have even more free time than I have.

"Judge not, lest thee be judged"

Also if i go by this site which is overrun by crying men child, no MMO is worth paying. However, when someone is posting a general information topic, atleast try not to hijack it with your own personal issues.

I have never seen so much negativity on any gaming site before. All of you realise that you are just screaming at the computer screen?

Like I said, I actually had one poster here (likely a teen or a frat boy) tell me that they see these forums as a form of PvP.  They really get their jollies out of arguing in forums.  So...  more power to them, I guess.  You just have to note the people who are going to argue with you and bash games no matter what, because they feel it's some sort of competition they can win, and ignore them.

In my opinion, Star Trek Online looks like it has great potential and from what I have seen, it is a lot of fun to play.

Scary that they have untested content and levels all of 3 weeks before it goes live.

Either way they are trying to go with "one server" so I can see where they would want to limit slots and thus the amount of data the server has to contend with. I'm not an altoholic and one or two slots is good enough for me. I'll probably never use that 3rd slot.

I'll only use one myself but I can see why some folks would want more slots. There is a lot of different paths you can go and some players like to play around with everything.

You mean there's people out there willing to go through that boring content TWICE ?

Every mmo that allows alts has players who have alts repeating content. That surprises you?

Even the most interesting content gets boring once you play it for the third time. looks like you are new to MMO genre.

I have no problem with that as long as the content is not a snorefest.

The first levels of STO bored me to death and I can't see myself going through it again anytime soon.

Or are you suggesting that the people who hate it are quitting, but there's so many people still trying to get on the server that it's kept full anyways?

This is what confuses me as well. I don't care if people dislike it...I'm not 100% sold on it yet myself. It's different. I kinda like a lot of the concepts, hate the "movement", but until I learn how to play it, any new game feels "clunky". May not be my type of game as I'm not a Star Trek fan (quite the opposite in fact), but  and I'm sure as hell not going to bash the heck out of the game while still playing it.

TBH...I'm surprised it's as much fun as it's been.

The only content that ever bored me to death was when SOE decided to NGE SWG. My lord were those some boring quests. I certainly hope STO has better content than that.

EVE focus fire tactics are about PVP tactics/mechanics.  The on-going discussion regarding focus fire in STO currently is about PVE tactics/mechanics.  Two different worlds.

I haven't been able to play since the latest patch, however, what i have read is that Cryptic way, way over did their correction of damage in pve such that its now nearly impossible to die in pve encounters.  Players on teh boards were saying they essentially had to go up against at least 8, if not 10-12 enemy ships at once without returning fire and not adjusting shields in any way in order to die.  Very like cryptic - they have no idea what the word finesse means.  Its all about the hammer to them.

Looks like the latest patch made things too easy. There is whole thread devoted to the subject on the STO website
